Hey! Update your info!

I know, when you log on to the game those first messages tend to fly by so fast that you might not notice them at all. But these yellow text messages tend to be important... unlike the nonsense that's likely to come after. Yellow text informs us of emergency reboots and these login messages usually informative of things so important that everyone needs to see them. But this one? It tells us to make sure our contact information is up to date -- you know, in case they need to contact us.
Now, I know I'm getting dangerously close to the realm of conspiracy theory, but why would Blizzard need to contact us? And why would anything be important enough to make an in-game alert to advise us to update our contact information? The obvious answer to me is beta invites -- though I may just have Burning Crusade on the brain. It would not at all surprise me, however, to see the beta opened up to a larger and larger pool of players as the expansion release nears, giving Blizzard a heavier stress test of the Outlands zones. Of course, this may not actually be a sign of that. Maybe Blizzard just thinks it's really important to update your account information.

I doubt an everyday low lvl player, who can't make up his mind about what class or race to roll, like me would get a beta invite. However, I did update my contact info...

Problem is, I need to update my email address with them, and last time I checked, you can't do that without calling their customer service. After 30 minutes on hold a few months ago, I gave up. Suppose I'll have to try again. :(

Since the Account Info is your meatspace address, not an email address, it's not for beta invites.
More likely they just want to make sure they sell the *correct* address to marketers.

They probably sent out 100,000 beta invites and got a "less than" 50% acceptance rate, signaling most people probably a) don't care about the beta or b) switched e-mail addresses and forgot to update their (wary visted) WoW Account Page.
That, or Upper Deck wants to spam us to buy their goods.
Who knows?
P.S. Sorry for the double-post, I guess HTML is acceptable in responses :P Stupid less-than signs.

Gee, if that was any bigger of an indication that they were sending out invites then I dunno what is.

What it is, is so that when you mouth off in BWL after having way too many Coronas, making yourself look like a complete dumbass and your guild like a group of terds (even if what you said was funny as hell), and you reported, Blizz has to be able to contact you.
Not saying this neccesarily from experience. :P I'm just saying...
