I've got the trinket and the rod from the fishing contest and let me tell you... the rod is worth more when you're alliance side.

Horde get the good rod (for whatever reason) but I still rarely see anyone fishing with me when I'm out in Azshara or where ever I may end up...

Oh and I can match horde fishing skill because I have all the gear from the fishing contest and the better rod... so... NYAH!!
