Around Azeroth: Northern Tirisfal

Reader Cort of Whisperwind sends in this shot, taken while waiting in queue for Alterac Valley -- before the cross-realm battlegrounds were implemented, this could be a lengthy wait. While waiting, Cort decided to see how long it would take to travel from Booty Bay to Tirisfal, and located these two tiny islands off the coast on the northern end of the zone. Yep, you're looking out over the end of Azeroth here, folks. (Is Azeroth round? If you swam out from this point would you eventually reach Booty Bay again? We may never know...)
Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! You can attach a picture file or send us a link to one -- and don't worry about formatting, we'll take care of that part. If yours isn't posted immediately, don't fret! Shots are posted (more or less) in the order received, and yours will come up eventually.

Ah so this was obviously an alliance submission. The Horde doesn't 'wait for queues'.

Yes it is round.
No we would not, we would hit Northrend. If you swam north of Northrend, then you'd hit Booty Bay. ^_^
So now we do know.

Wallpaper'd.
Very nice, from all standpoints.

If you want to be really specific, after going north a certain point, you'd eventually start going south. Think about a globe. If you continue to go directly north, you will eventually reach the north pole. If you keep on going straight from there you have to go south. Now, if you keep going straight, around the "back" of the world, you will eventually reach the South Pole, and start going north again, and reach finally Booty Bay...
Also, something to think about... we know a few places untouched by magic in the north, such as Northrend and Winterspring are cold places, with snow year round (I point out places not affected by magic, for there are other places like Teldrassil, and Quel'Thalas that are of similar latitudes, but dissimilar climates).
Now, for the most part, the further south you get, the more temperate the weather becomes, with Khaz Modan being a big exception, but justifiably so, due to it's high elevation. With the farthest south locations being very warm, either jungles or deserts. This is noteworthy, since those climates are normally associated with the equator.
These two things together would imply that the Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, and Northrend all exist in the northern hemisphere of Azeroth.

Hint: If you swim north from the UK, do you hit South Africa?

Well the entire would used to be one coninent named Kalimdor (think as Earth being Pangea) with the Well of Eternity in the center (under the control of the eventually corrupt Queen Azshara). The Burning Legion entered the world and eventually the Well of Eternity was detonated like a super-bomb. It was so devastating that it blew the world into three continents: Azeroth, Kalimdor and Northrend. No other continents have ever been mentioned and maps point to there being no others.
The Maelstrom in the middle is where the Well used to be.

Or Azeroth simply has a really odd orbit around its sun totally unlike that of our planet. This weather phenomenon could be explained by an extreme tilt of the NS axis such that the sun's rays were direct in the south and glancing in the north.

Azeroth is flat as a paper and sits on the edge of a table next to the fridge and water cooler in the Blizzard break room.
If you run to the edge of azeroth in any direction it will kill you. If you run again while dead it will kill you again. Thats because you fall off the table and the developers accidently trample your toon in their rush for more coffee.
As far as these Around Azeroth screenshots go, I would like to see less images of the sunset/moon. Something a bit more original than a big ball of light with full screen glow effects on.

Actually its flat....If you fall off teldrassil and swim north as a wisp you can reach the edge of the world before fatigue kills you. Its just a black nothingness...and an invisible wall.
