Breakfast Topic: That Makes No Sense!
There are some things that happen in the World of Warcraft that really, really require us to suspend any rational thought and just go with the flow. The fact that the game takes place in a fantasy world populated with Gnomes and talking cows makes some things a little easier to swallow, but there are many things that happen in the game that make absolutely no sense whatsoever. For example, there are bears who happen to be carrying around level 16 shotguns. Why is the bear carrying that gun? And why is the next bear carrying a mallet? How do you roleplay yourself out of that one? I mean, you could make an excuse the first few times, but when you loot your tenth weapon off a bear...well...that makes no sense at all.
Now obviously a lot of these kind of things are inherent in any videogame or MMORPG, but due to the size of the WoW and the amount of time we all spend in Azeroth, this stuff really does stick out after a while. What do you guys think? What is the most ridiculous thing we have come to accept as business as usual?

How about when a boss or a mob dies and you can't loot what they're wearing nor their weapons. Especially mobs that only *sometimes* drops the weapon they were using to fight you just a second ago.

Rotting carcasses on freshly killed bears are silly too.

You want to pick up the weapon the mob was using? Go play Oblivion.

We usually use the excuse "packrat stash" to work around that little problem. In other words, the loot wasn't on the mob, but in a pile close by which it coincidentally died on. Hey, it is thin, but what else do you have?

Always wondered why big dragons carry around some hats *cough*onyxia*cough*? Or why a big monster of flame carries around some pants, anything you wanna tell us Rag? Bears with shotguns is just "eh" maybe he ate some hunter and swallowed the gun, who knows? But the bigger bosses just hording away pants and hats is just a little odd.

I recall a quest in the Night Elf starting area that required you to kill spiders and loot their "legs."
I also recall killing a dozen of them and each and every one dropping a spider "limb" and very few "legs."
Now please tell me exactly what other limbs a spider has that we would not consider legs? This still bothers me 2 years later.

And how you can roleplay yourself when there are goblins, trolls, dwarfs around? Somehow you can, so it's just new developers' joke. There are many of them, this time you mentioned bears and their weapon. Next time it will be something else. Just accept game as is or don't play

WHY CAN I NOT SKIN GNOMES? THEY HAVE SKIN. I HAVE A KNIFE.
I CAN SKIN BEARSQUATCHES, BUT I CAN'T SKIN GNOMES.
Dub Tee Eff.

I never got roleplaying in an MMO. You have no control over your environment. Why would you go through the headache of making excuses? Go get a tabletop game and roleplay there.

I remember doing my Waterform quest and dying as a wisp from fatigue. How does that work? I'm already dead I cant die again.

I would like to know why my Undead rogue can be sheeped, yet My mage can not sheep undead.
And why I can not skin gnomes, and make ammo pouches out of them???? I mean seriously, I can skin a squirrel, but I can't skin a gnome .. what is that?!
[zomg @ 9 I thought I was the only person who wanted to skin gnomes!!!]
Also, I am slightly confused as to why squirrels don't drop anything for me to loot. If a Spider can hide a sword somewhere, I expect a whole suit of armor out of one of those squirrels.
And Why does an elemental, composed of water, Have a bowl of water on him ?
Why can't Hunters ride their pets ? ...
How Come when I am collecting eyes from raptor's in Arathi, Only some of the Rapters have an eye? .. Why don't I get two eyes per Raptor? What sense does that make ? ...
and Finally,
Why does all the tier 2 Blood Fang set look cooler than Tier 3 and 4?

Try turning in Onyxia's head in Stormwind while someone else is doing that part of the key quest. "But I just killed you! I have your head in a bag, right here! SEE!?"
Flit Nov 2nd 2006 10:27AM
@13: agree. It should be bring me a body part of "X" person, and everyone grabs a separate part of the dead guy. That could get real interesting on the 40 man raids. And I also want to skin humanoids. If i remember right, you can't skin moonkin, but you can skin moonscalps? What is the difference?
Also, the eyeball collection quests bother me too. All of the animals should drop 2 eyballs, like the courser quest in ST
However, like other games are any better?
FPS where there is ammunition laying around for no reason, puzzle games where you can unlock most doors eventually with keys that are just laying around, but you can't shoot the door open. Exploding barrels. Crates that are conveniently placed. JRPG's where I stand there while other characters punch me in the face.
Wow is a game after all, you have to make it fun. I do appreciate how oblivion lets you use whatever weapons you find on other people though. Wow should be a bit more like that.

Well, being able to get soul shards from Soulless Ghouls never made sense to me.

In Searing Gorge, There's a man named Kalaran Windblade who gives a series of quests to mess with the Dark Iron Dwarves in the area. In the end he has you set fire to the wacth towers before revealing he's a dragon and flying off after making sure you think you just did something for the bad guy.
Of course, this particular quest line gets more interesting (and a little dumber) when someone has to do it before you, or you did it with a group. He only does his whole act for one person at a time.
So you and a friend go set fire to the towers. You go back to talk to the man. Your friend goes first. The man has a weird fit, tells you you're a fool, turns into a dragon and flies off. You wait. He respawns. You turn in the quest so he can have a fit again.

One of the funny things that ALL RPGs share, is the carrying capacity of player characters. Man, I'd love to see the true size of our backpacks.
Why do vendors want the crap that no one else will take - who do they sell that stuff to?
rec Nov 2nd 2006 12:55PM
now then, why do the guys in the Stockades, who are detailed as "prisoners", have weapons AND money ?
wtf ?
henstar Nov 2nd 2006 11:03AM
You could probably justify the eye quest stuff by saying the eyes were damaged during the fight and you can't loot them. Those raptors are missing you for one reason or another!
