Holy 36-hour downtime, Batman! [Updated]
Yes, I admit, when I ran across the thread titled "Extended Maintenance 11/7/06," my eyes sort of glazed over and I moved on to the next topic. (Hopefully one of some interest...) Another Tuesday, another maintenance cycle. Ho-hum. However, this particular maintenance extention not only effects my own realm -- which I had thought was safe, having come up on the supposed new hardware platform not all that long ago -- but is also planned to last a full Why? Hardware upgrades! Blizzard will be transfering data onto a new storage solution in preperation for the coming expansion. Hardware upgrades are all well and good, but the necessity of them on such newly opened realms puzzles me a bit.
The process is expected to start on November 7th at 12:00 AM PST and end on November 8th at 12:00
Update: Maintenance times revised from 12AM through 12AM to 12AM through 12PM the next day -- that adds up to a full 36 hour maintenance window. I swear the first time I looked at Tseric's post it said 12AM to 12AM, but it's possible I was mistaken, too.

you should count yourselves lucky, over the pond in Europe we had our realms down for 36 hours, and that did not included the time before hand when we went down for 4 hours just before this 36 hour maintenance was due to start.
But its got to be done I guess.

Right now I'm finding the fact that most of the "lesser" mmo's are going the free/ad route for their base games comforting... gives me something to do on these LONG patches. ATM AO and Planetside have their base game and first expansions free to download and plsy.(FYI if you plan on joining me on Planetside... takes like 3 days to download.)

"alternate Tuesday plans" so you mean be like everyone else and invade other realms with a lvl 1 alt! Man I hate those guys.

I know this is the total geek question, but has anyone ever seen the specs on what WoW runs on? Quad Xeons? How much RAM, etc. . . Don't know why but I want to know. . . I can't be alone in this one.

Is my math off or isn't this a 12 hour down time?

One way you could fill some of your time on Tuesday (in the US, at least) would be to.....VOTE! Tuesday is election day, and now you have no excuse to not make it to the polls!
I couldn't ask for a better day for 24 hour maintenance, as I wasn't going to be able to play at all on Tuesday due to election day activities!
Vote early (not often, that'll get you throw in jail).

@Donkeykicker
Did you check the news archives I remember reading a news post about that a couple weeks back

Um... it isnt actually "new hardware", thye are just tweaking the performance of the new hardware already on there. All sites have the new hardware, they just need ot be tweaked in settings to ensure better performance and efficiency.
A new storage "solution" doesn't mean new "hardware". Just means they are changing the way it was being done before...
Stop crying. Majority of you all complain about the realms, now when you see things happening you are complaining for them fixing the issue! Make up your minds! Garrrg!
