BC beta paladin changes

More interesting beta changes popping up this weekend -- Paladinsucks has brought to my attention some interesting paladin changes. Good news first -- Protection buffs! In addition to increasing the thread provided by Righteous Fury, Improved Righteous Fury now also reduces damage taken by 2/4/6% while active. And in addition to reducing the cooldown of Divine Shield, Sacred Duty also increases overall stamina by 3/6%. Nice!
However, one can't live on buffs alone... and these changes come with nerfs to the Retribution tree (previously reported, but just now going live in the beta). Crusader Strike's cooldown is once again 10 seconds and Vengeance once again provides only a 10% bonus to your physical and holy damage.
Paladins who want to be tanks are thrilled, while paladins who want to do damage or PvP are discouraged. (Well, that's putting it mildly, isn't it?)
Update: Clarified that the Retribution tree changes/nerfs had been announced, but were only now implemented.
[Thanks, Lavis!]

While you are correct in stating that the Retribution tree did get nerfed, this was previously announced (see http://www.wowinsider.com/2006/10/24/burning-crusade-talent-updates/). They only finally put this on the beta servers late last week.

It doesn't matter what is buffed and what is nerfed. Pallys whine, that's the base fact. No matter what, they whine. Always.

Whining is not confined to class. Every class whines in one way or another.
Swiftlydead Nov 6th 2006 1:05PM
true, every class whines, but only paladins do so to the point of notable absurdity.

I can't stand it. I am a Ret Pally, and yes I am a "LITTLE" biased, granted. If they want to give Pallies the ability to tank better, fine. I'm never keen on Pallies saying that they are tanks, but we can do okay, even in MC. The problem I have here is that they are killing my damage ability (which I am fairly proud of) in order to even up with a warrior's ability to hold aggro. Let warriors keep the aggro...Let me pound the mobs into the dirt while the warrior keeps the aggro! It's already bad enough that everyone considers a Pally a healing class. I can finish within the top 10 in damage charts in MC no problem, and can sometimes make top 5. With this nerf move, my build becomes more limited. I'm not asking to do God-Like damage, but just leave my Ret pally the hell alone! One would figure that the characters in the game Warcraft that were doing all of the damage, might be able to do a little damage in the MMO version. Oh well, this has been a dead issue for a while now. Thank God I have a rogue...

The only problem with pallys are the fact that the people playing them start with this mentality .... "hey i can do good damage, AND I can heal myself.... therefore the other classes are somehow flawed. I therefore must alert the confused warriors, and priest that they are in err, and that the paladin class is the Best."
They then go out of their way to publicly "help" people by soloing stuff that no other class can. They also take up valuable space in aids by declaring " I can TANK" an then proceeding to do nothing but apply auras and healz(usually on themselves, as they think they are the most important class in the game).
Pally's are the anti-team class. I say we coral them all somewhere in northshire abby and then party with a warrior and a priest. that combination will do you so much better than any "benefits" that a pally can offer.
If this post has offended you paladins out there.... well gosh darn..... I'm so hurt....... figure out what you want to do, play a warrior if you want to tank, or play a priest if you want to heal.

Well, another thing to consider is that the changes were never warrented, but they did it anyway.
Beta Testers with CS were all saying the same thing:
Crusader Strike wasn't overpowered at 6 seconds.
The fact seemed to be that those narrow minded creeps that scoffed at the thought of Paladins doing viable DPS felt threatened and so, they cried nerf. Which sucks, big time.

To #10 - Gee, and here I was going to start a BE pally with the idea that they're a complex support class - much like my warlock - with a lot of required ingenuity, skill and effort to play well. If I wanted to tank, I'd play a warrior - if I wanted to heal, I'd play a priest...but I'd rather support my group, pull healers out of trouble, help warriors deal out damage, buff the DPSers and be a utility class to the best of my ability. I guess I have to change my mentality - cause clearly I'm not fitting the mold of your little world.
And I hear the cries about Ret getting nicked...that's the build I want to go with.

Lol PheonixCross, you ever hear of a hybrid class?
Guess you don't like druids or shammies either, like a druid, a paladin can suit all 3 roles adiquately, it just depends on the spec and gear; a bit of skill doesn't hurt either.

Am I the only one who thinks the ret tree did NOT get nerfed? Am I the only one who loves the pally's new CS, improved JoC, mana refund on judge etc etc??

Why is blizzard so dumb Im a freaking warrior I dont like it when they do this shit. But seriously with the way prot warriors are looking pallys dont have a chance on out tanking a warrior. Why dont they give you better healing abilities or damage. (I do think pallies make much better healers than dps though.)
