Breakfast Topic: Killing time before the expansion...
The other day, Dave pointed out a blog post by Relmstein listing things - he says -- you're not supposed to do before the expansion's release. And... maybe it's just me, but I think they all sound like excellent ways to kill time until the expansion is released! Sadly, neither of my priests are Night Elves, and so cannot shadowmeld near the entrance to BRM in order to mind control players into the lava -- a sacrifice to Ragnaros in hopes of an on-time expansion release. So I'll have to think up other ways to amuse myself -- while there is no leveling to be done and little point in attempting to aquire new gear. And how do you think to kill time -- do you have any additions to Relmstein's list?Filed under: Breakfast Topics, Expansions

Something you should never do:
Make a lvl 1 alt with a stupid name such as "BCFTW" or, "isanoob" and run them into the opposing faction's major auction house for all the opposing faction to point and laugh at.

You can tell our server's at a low point in activity when we schedule nightly Orgrimmar raids.
They're starting to hate us. Seriously. They just line up at their gates every night and prepare for the inevitable "Bored Alliance suicide run".
A few of us Rogues infiltrate the Valley of Honor and stage a counter-attack from behind.
All in all... I think we need more content.

I personally disagree with the claim that it's "a waste of time" to work for new gear.
It is something to do. If the only return you're wanting from the time investment in WoW is gear, then really you're wasting your time playing the game, because the gear is, ultimately, worthless.
I'm still working on getting my Deathmist Rainement simply because it's something to do. It's fun, challenging, and keeps me busy.

Well, my "waste of time" comment may be a reflection of the fact that my main character already has a pretty solid set of gear -- and putting in large amounts of time for slight upgrades does not seem very appealing when the expansion is going to provide easier and better options in the near future.
And I also think of it similarly to twinking. I never "twinked" my alts leveling up. I didn't go out of my way to aquire awesome level 20 blues. Why? Because if I'm actively playing, I'll level past it and be seeing better greens in a few levels. It's not worth the level of effort for the amount of time I'll be using it. Right now, I feel the same way about my level 60 characters -- with the expansion coming out in a couple of months, I don't feel that the effort to aquire minor upgrades to my gear is worth the amount of time I'll end up using it.
But I'm also looking at it as someone who's run every dungeon in the game far too many times -- they're old and tired and no longer present an interesting challenge to me. So I'm waiting for new content... :)

I think I will do the same as I have since I started playing this game; kill stuff. Well, as a resto Druid these days, its more like heal people while they sill stuff, but you get the point.
But yeah, I'm a little weird. I'm one of those people who just might duck out during a Farming Run snoozefest for free epics and piles of DKP, but wouldn't miss a wipefest night of working on a new boss for anything. To me, going on at least a few of those farm runs are something I have to do to have the gear to keep up with everyone else in the guild on new encounters, or I may not be invited to the new encounters.
So even though I am admittedly a little odd, I have to just /boggle at people that saying there is no point in raiding or improving right now because all their gear will eventually be replaced.
1) Did that stop them from going to SM, ZF, and the like?
2) If people are just playing to accumuate purple pixels, wow, thats just... sad. Kinda pathetic. Go find something you enjoy doing, you are wasting your time on a video game if you don't enjoy it.

Best time to get an alt up to 60 till the next expansion [and then it will be getting an alt up to 70].
Even a 60 alt in greens and AH blues will be able to gear at T2 comparable levels by 63-64. A bit tougher grinding those levels than uber geared folks, but it won't require 39 friends to do it.
I see it as an opportunity to bring another character for me [or characters] into the raiding pool for our Naxx focused guild. There was no way to do that before since we'd stopped going to MC quite some time ago, and rarely do BWL now.

Whether it is a waste of time to go for more gear or not, it's still a game-wide phenomenon right now; on my server the top guilds in Naxx and AQ40 are having *a lot* of trouble filling 40-man raids because there's a general lack of interest. That started happening when BC was pushed to January.
Guilds that I know are doing well: MC/ZG/AQ20-level guilds, they have little to worry about since their end-game isn't near the end. BC is a reset of sorts, and also a slap in the face of 'hardcore' raiders; having ~tier 2-level gear is going to be irrelevant in a matter of weeks when BC comes out, Naxx-level gear will still be better, but players who level in BC will definitely have a chance to easily "level" up (gear-wise) as well without going through the hardcore raiding.
Incidently, I quit my Naxx guild this past week because I'm sick of my rogue and I don't see the point in wiping in Naxx night after night for a few high-end purples anymore; I lack interest, so I jumped on my priest alt and am getting him through ZG & AQ20 instead. It's both a lot more fun and a little more future-proof (for me).

Um... what to do until the expansion? Well for starters you could play Final Fantasy XII like myself... it takes up plenty of time, and you can even say you missed a raid or two because of it... ooops.

You guys really aren't getting it, lol. It is a big waste of your time to run these instances. Instead spend your time collecting mats for your professions (so you can skill up easy) and gold so that you can excell in the expansion(to buy those uber greens that drop). The greens are much better. Your tier sets really won't help you. I am a beta tester and i can tell you from personal experience, when ever i play a new instance with a noob (you heard me) that refuses to get rid of his armor sets, everyone wipes because of them (especially if you are a tank). Why, because your talking about green armor that gives you insane stat bonuses (like +100 to attack power and +40 to stamina). In addition skills like cooking are much more important. Recipies give you stat bonuses of +20 to stamina and spirit for 30 minutes! Profession have many new and powerfull items you can create. As far as skill books and such, you learn the next rank at 62,lol. Highest man raid is 25 people (say good bye to raid alliances for smaller guilds), and those raids give you tokens to turn in for items (say good bye to dkp). Don't worry raid drama is soon OVER! In other words your gonna be able to set the pace of you uberness, not some silly raid rules. Don't believe me, take a look at my pictures of some of the weapons i had at level 62 http://webpages.charter.net/touchet
