The only thing we have to fear... is spiders
Moony on WoW Ladies is freaked out by the Burning Crusade. But unlike most of us, she's not freaked out because all the new instances look so awesome, or because she loves playing with the new races. Nope, she's freaked out because there are spiders. If you've ever been to the Spider boss in ZG (or the spider nest in LBRS), you know how creepy the creepy crawlies can get in Azeroth, but apparently on Bloodmyst Isle (a new Draenei zone), they get even creepier-- so much that she'd rather run back to Loch Modan to pass by that quest. And surprisingly enough, a few people share her pain. I've never really been freaked out by spiders in WoW, but I was kind of sickened by my first trip into the insect nests on the eastern border of Feralas-- those winged beasts are icky for sure. And Silithus, of course, although by then I'd gotten more used to it. And some people have other fears brought on by their travels through Azeroth-- one commenter has a fear of heights that shows up from time to time while jumping off of zeppelins, and a few other players have issues with swimming really deep while that little blue bar drops. And it's not always fear-- this past weekend, I was running Baron, and it occurred to me just how disgusting the abominations are-- not only are their guts all hanging out, but they actually vomit on players they attack. That's sick, man!
Have you been freaked out or sickened by something in the game? Blizzard's great because they play on central parts of our culture when creating the World of Warcraft-- from pop stars and entertainment to myths and legends, even to our basest fears. Have they ever actually got you shaking in your Wolfrunner Shoes?

Bloodmyst Isle is the Draenei 10-20 Zone.
Alakai Nov 13th 2006 10:07PM
That's actually Azuremyst Isle, Yoshi.
Kyle Nov 13th 2006 10:27PM
No, Azuremyst is the 1-10, Alakai. Bloodmyst is the 10-20.
Anyway, the spiders on Bloodmyst look like a miniature Maexxna from Naxx. I think Moony would likely be more scared by the Ravagers found on Azuremyst/Bloodmyst.
I'm not really scared by anything in the game. Well, I was a bit afraid my first time in Ashenvale, because it seemed so dark and I imagined the horde behind every tree. Then I got used to it, heh.

The most sickening thing I ever saw, would have to be this one time when I was running through Stormwind and saw this Gnome flirting with a Night Elf. Man, that was the sickest thing ever, I'm never going to be rid of those horrible horrible memories.

Barren's chat... hands down.

I don't mind the spiders in Asheroth generally, except for the Terroweb Tunnel which runs from the Tonderil River bordering EPL and WPL and runs to the town of Terrordale west of Stratholme.
The Crawlers and the dark cave give me the heebie jeebies and I hate grinding for the Crawler parts.
And there's an elite wandering about too.
Funnily enough, the ones in Scholomance don't bother me because they're not in a dark tunnel, I guess.

Swimming into the deeper parts of the ocean. The druid quest to gain seal form really unnerved me. To shorten the time I'd be down in the water, I looked up on Thot for exact coordinates of where I should find the required items. I do try to avoid as many swimming quests as I can, though I have done the couple in STV. Guess the water there is clear enough for my phobia.

Its a bit wierd that people have a fear of swiming in wow..
Spending a few minutes of being blind in zg at the spider boss gets me a bit (they should get rid of that it has to be bad for your eyes :0)
I also recall that before i was 60 i really feared redrige, i think i just ground those levels so i didnt have to quest there.

Seriously though.. not so much. Though most of my online RPG experience goes back to MUDs, I can honestly say I've never truly been creeped out by anything within the realm of WoW/MMORPGs. Perhaps I've been desensitized, but go back over a decade to Doom 2 (*ahem* ][).. Look at half of the stuff in that game.. look at the Mancubus! Though lacking the graphical prowess of WoW.. or, for that matter, a lot of things post-1994, it's kinda difficult to be too appalled by things that are just.. pixels on a screen.
If we're going for pure fear, I could only say I've ever been truly been "scared" by things once I've decided to give a damn about the game - once I actually want to succeed. On that note, WoW-wise, it's all about the Devilsaur when you're right around levels 50-51. Now I hunt them (and those Stone Guardians) mercilessly, but at that level, a little ol' Mage such as myself.. galloping merrily to Marshal's Refuge.. when suddenly *boom... booom... boom..* And then the roar.. Jitters now, just thinking about it.

In EPL there's hills with what looks like insect hive type things, and I have this thing about human parasites, and for some reason it reminded me of one picture I accidently saw. I almost threw up when my brain made that connection.
I don't go to EPL anymore.

9, you can change a setting in your Video Options called Pixel Shader Effects and it will remove the blur when you drunk.

The spider area in Stonetalon Mountains is so bad I actually can't do the quest there whenever I have a horde character in the 20s. Even though it has some nice shoulders or something, I can't bring myself to enter the area.
Hugo Nov 14th 2006 8:57PM
I found my first time entering Chromagnus's room in BWL pretty creepy. The dragon skeletons and body parts hanging from hooks, and having their blood being drained was pretty creepy. Then having someone accidently hit the lever didn't help either :p

The maggots in EPL. i hate maggots, always had an irrational fear of them. Then i saw the HUGE maggots further north in EPL...makes my stomach turn!
