WoW Insider is LFM!
We're looking to expand our staff here at WoW Insider with new people and fresh perspectives. Getting paid to play isn't just a pipe dream -- though in this case you at least have to alt-tab out and write about your experiences. Think you might make a good addition to our team? Well then, read on for all the details!
We're looking people with:
- A passion for World of Warcraft. You don't have to love everything Blizzard does, but you obviously need to have an interest in the game.
- Solid writing ability. (Basic spelling and grammar required -- and forming words without any numbers in them a plus.)
- Prolificacy! We'd like someone who can commit to writing on a regular (daily!) basis.
- Possess a computer and a reliable Internet connection. If your computer can play WoW, you should be able to blog with us.
- Have the software and knowledge to create and manipulate photos and screenshots. (Primarily resizing, fancier stuff if you feel like it.)
- Know (basic) blogger's HTML.
- Are eligible to work wherever you're writing from.
- Are reachable outside of Azeroth -- via e-mail, IM, Skype, phone, etc. (No, I am not creating a level one alt just to track you down and ask you questions.)
Send wowinsiderapply@gmail.com an email including:
- A subject line including your full name
- Your city and state
- Your email address
- Your instant messenger address(es)
- A cover letter explaining why you're the right person for the job, including your background in WoW, current characters, and current objectives in-game
- Three sample posts about World of Warcraft, in the style of a typical WoW Insider post
- Three links to posts on WoW Insider that you feel best exemplify the sort of content we want here
- Three suggestions for how to improve WoW Insider

What are the perks?

"What's the Pay?"
Who cares... The chance to share our joy of WoW and keep up on the latest happenings? I'm in...
I'll be submitting my application here in the near future!

LOL... yeah, and I see the irony in those comments followed by my handle!

What format would you like us to email our articles in? MS Word, Rich Text Format, Html, etc. etc.
jakk on the blackrock server Nov 13th 2006 9:22PM
you are not alone. i dream of pipes too....
Gorath Nov 13th 2006 9:32PM
Man I love wow insider, better than forum trolling and with smart people behind the articles written. My friend enjoys ranting about stuff like that, maybe I should tell him about it.

sounds fun

You can simply put the article text in the body of your e-mail message or attach a MS Word document or rich text. Or even plain text! We're primarily looking for writing ability, which can be conveyed in any format. :)

Just wondering is this only valid to people who reside within the US?
SeiferTim Nov 14th 2006 10:35AM
Is there a deadline for submissions?
Elizabeth Harper Nov 14th 2006 11:21AM
You need to be eligible to work wherever you're writing from -- and not all of our bloggers are in the US. :)
I'm not putting a specific deadline on applications -- though I'm planning on starting to seriously sort through them in about a week. (But that doesn't mean that one that gets sent to us in eight days will automatically be discarded.)
SeiferTim Nov 14th 2006 2:01PM
Thank you for the answer, and you should be seeing my e-mail shortly ;)

Are there any age restrictions? I'm 16 and would like to apply, but if I have no chance of getting the job, I'd rather not bother.
therandomguy Nov 14th 2006 2:41PM
Well, #13 I'm with you, but I think it's kinda adult, but hey, if I'm wrong, ignore this post! (Btw, this is just the view because you seem to write things about err-under 18s like adults would.)
Elizabeth Harper Nov 14th 2006 3:34PM
As to age restrictions -- I'll only repeat that if you're eligible to work where you're writing from, you can work with us. Age itself isn't a factor in the consideration process -- if you have the ability to write interesting articles for us with more-or-less proper spelling and grammar, I could care less if you were a frog. :)
Though I'm not entirely sure what a frog's legal work eligibility is...

Will you send out confirmation emails to people who applied?
Elizabeth Harper Nov 16th 2006 5:15PM
I am not actively sending out confirmation e-mails on every application, though I have sent out e-mails to those who have specifically requested a confirmation. However, so long as you're sending the mails out to wowinsiderapply@gmail.com they should be landing in the appropriate mailbox.
Remember, I'm giving people a week to get applications in before seriously starting a review process, so if you haven't heard anything, there's nothing to stress about.
