Around Azeroth: Former monuments

Tsel of Agamaggan sent in this shot from Ashenvale of a ruined statue. And I agree with him -- it does feel fairly Planet of the Apes-esque. However, if there's any history or lore behind this, I don't know it -- anyone out there who can step up and tell us where this statue came from?
Do you have a unique shot of Azeroth that you'd like to show off to the rest of the world? Tell us about it by e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com! You can attach a picture file or send us a link to one -- and don't worry about formatting, we'll take care of that part. And don't forget about this week's Around Azeroth caption contest -- we're taking submissions all week and will pick the best of them to show off next Monday!

The thing on the left looks kind of like a pig.
You might have to try and see it...

I always assumed those were leftovers from when the first Well of Eternity went and tore the continents apart.

It's a huge dildo... I checked in the lore encyclopedia.

I think its feet are way out in the eastern part of Azshara, above the southern cliffs.

There are feet in Azshara, but I doubt they are of the same statue. This ruined statue (along with oh so many of those nelfish looking ruins, dontchaknow) are all part of the original nelf civilization before it went kaplooey when the original well of eternity blew up.

Would've been better if I had gotten my toon in it for scale... Ah well.

Naming or telling the lore about a statue in ashenvale would be like telling "lore" about a hotdog stand in newyork :P

After dredging through WoW Wiki the best I can come up with is that the state is there for enviroment and dosn't have much of a back story. It's obviously of a female night elf and its also obviously destroyed, or at least the core of it below ground. I would wager a guess that due to its suposed age the statue might be of Queen Azshara but thats just an educated guess.

Sorry about that, folks! I forgot to link the larger image from the smaller image. Should be able to click it now though.

Its a reproduction of the 5 or 6 statues that exist in the world of Azeroth, in this case the female Elf Hunter-Archer which can also be seen in Stormwind, only this one is jumbo-sized and smashed. Its a little known fact that these statues are all the work of the mad Dwarven Statue-smith (who, coincidentally, was the only denizen in the planet's history to take Statue-Smithing as his profession) Darzan Hammertooth, of the Khaz Agar Hammerteeth. He, in fact, not only designed the 5 or 6 basic statue templates, but also built all the Night Elf stone structures that dot Kalimdor, having been hired by them during their Golden Age to design public buildings that wouldn't be decimated by Ashenvale's tenacious colonies of termites and pyromaniacal furbolgs. Unfortunately, they attempted to pay him with assorted leaves and berries, having no shiny metals of their own, and Darzan meted out his rage, in a bout of ill-humor, through his creations. This is why so many Night Elf ruins have high walls but no doors, and why, to this very day, the Night elves are condemned within their own lands to sleep out in the open or on what amounts to stacked balconies, exposed to the ravages of wind, rain, chill, and those dang Darnassian mosquitoes.
