another nerf to mages? I wonder why the mage forums haven't exploded from the outrage.
Deam Nov 17th 2006 9:23AM
Keys for hard mode sounds dumb at first, then I realized at lvl 70 wouldn't you be at least revered? Then I went back to "weren't they supposed to eliminate most of the faction hardship"
Shat Nov 17th 2006 9:44AM
This is the first time I have ever thought Blizz was COMPLETELY out of their minds. What good are mages now?
Unkle Nov 17th 2006 9:45AM
That mage nerf is pretty lame. I dont even play one, and I hate getting AoE'd, but its a huge part of the class, and to nerf it just doesn't make sense.
Unkle Nov 17th 2006 9:47AM
Just make the nerf apply to gnome mages. I hate seeing gnomes, and this would lead to less of them around.

"AoE spells now do reduced damage against large number of targets"
This is %@#$! stupid...

"AoE spells now do reduced damage against large number of targets"
This is %@#$! stupid...
How stupid it is depends on the value of "large number".
If "Large Number" = 15 or more, it's fine. And that's probably what it is. There were issues with mages being able to gather all the mobs around, say, a cauldron in WPL and blizzard kite/kill them. I watched a mage do this for about an hour. It's not a "oh, nobody ever does that" thing, I see mages doing it all the time.
If "Large Number" < 15, yeah, this is stupid.

Mages FTL... Time to roll a lock or a hunter...
Macarana Nov 17th 2006 10:16AM
Not just mages, it will affect locks as well.
cappyoak Nov 17th 2006 10:30AM
Seriously, less and less enthused about the xpac with every new word coming out of the Blizzard Blues. My Warrior can't tank as well as a Druid, My Preist healing ability has been nerfed into the dirt, and now my mage has been nerfed as well.
Someone remind me why I want to play this game anymore.
Aladek Nov 17th 2006 10:46AM
Don't hurt my Mage... we all know that every class has their little glitch that makes others say wtf Nerf!
Pally - bubble
Lock - fear
mage - aoe
ect...
why o'why attack the poor lil mages
Gamerz22 Nov 17th 2006 11:03AM
Actually, it should be more like
mage - sheep
or
mage - frost nova
:)
Druid dude Nov 17th 2006 11:35AM
Last night, the WoW Druid Forums had a ZOMGSPLOSION like I have never seen. Thread after thread, with dozens and dozens of posts from Druids that were nothing more than an ASCII middle finger with Blizzrd's name next to it.
Today, it seems that most of those threads have been deleted, and probably a LOT of people banned from the forums. The Druid community was PISSED, and still is best I can tell, but being squelched now.
monkeywraith Nov 17th 2006 11:47AM
bloody hell, what does blizzard have against druids? its bad enough to nerf barkskin, lotp, and nurturing instincts, but we NEED consumables and weapon procs. consumables and procs arent decent things that we could use but could do without, they are absolute necessities to bring us closer to being as viable as other classes! why do you think there are so few druids in the first place? we are already one of, if not the, most difficult class to play to its fullest, we cant use anything. instead of being viable for any role when properly geared and specced like the class is meant to be, we make subpar replacements and are forced to be healbots. :'(
Swiftlydead Nov 17th 2006 11:49AM
good druids are next to pallies in whininess. They deserve it.
Flux Nov 17th 2006 11:53AM
Yeah, I have to say I'm much, much less enthused about my Druid main now. The line "or any other reasonable item that any other class can use" is really telling. The restrictions we have in our forms really are unreasonable. I'm seriously thinking about switching to my 60 Shaman for when the expansion goes live.
Frigga's Ring Nov 17th 2006 12:00PM
Mages nerfed again? *sigh* I believe that makes a nerf for every patch except for the mage review (and even that's debatable).
Prauche Nov 17th 2006 12:21PM
/sigh...
/BIGSIGH
After seeing the "normalization" [read nerf] of pet attack speed for Hunters, I was planning on semi-retiring Prauche in favor of his mage cousin Jarkina. The plan *was* to spend my time between now and Jan. 17th getting her from 42 to 60. However, after reading that AoE is getting bitch-slapped, I'm just not sure what I wanna do. Of course, there is no OFFICIAL information about what exactly the AoE nerf is about; i.e., how much damage decrease per added mob, but in reading the forums the mages in the beta appear to be getting diminished results with just 2 or 3 mobs. Talk about a big F.U. to mages!
Rolling a BE Pally at expansion is COMPLETELY out of the question as I've determined that I'm morally and ethically opposed to Horde Pallies.
I suppose it's time to work on that lvl 15 'lock I've been neglecting.
Thanks Blizz...always nice to hear from you....
cappyoak Nov 17th 2006 2:11PM
Blizzard is going to screw this up aren't they. My faith has been deeply shaken.
I know the warriors were complaining about the Druids being better tanks but in the forums they said over and over don't nerf the druids just fix our scalability issues for generating rage.
Instead of fixing the class that was broken they broke another class. Again.

To those trying to read meaning into every word here, please remember that these aren't official patch notes, and these aren't Blizzard's own words. Just fyi.
