Forum Post of the Day: Twinks ruin low level BGs

Before the advent of cross-realm battlegrounds and server transfers, I rolled a new character on a brand new server and had the best of times running battlegrounds while leveling up. In my mind, it was fun precisely because there weren't any twinks yet -- everyone was working on leveling up and playing in the battlegrounds on the same level. And leveling a new character up on any server, with cross-realm battlegrounds, I don't think I'd have the same amount of fun running the low level battlegrounds casually. Because so many people playing in the lower brackets have characters that have been pushed to the max of their abilities for the level, and I'm just trying to level up. But is this really something Blizzard should do something about or is it just working as intended? Regardless of what you think, you can join in on the discussion.

Well, I have many twinks, most of them are near 60 but this kind of overpowered bg twink I have never played. So I dont think that twinks the game!
Crusader enchanting at lvl 19? Well, I dont know if this should really be permitted. Of course, this gives a big advantage to you in battlegrounds but esp. in minor battlefields you wont be stay a long time. Even if your addicted to pvp you would gain xp with honor marks so this isnt a big threat to you.
At every battleground someone is better equipped than you. No reason to get angry.

Twinks should be shot or nerfed or something. I really enjoy PVP at low levels because it makes a change from the grinds, but being pwnd by a shit load of twinks because you don't have top of the line gear sucks. I just want a fair fight.
I'm cool with it if I get the crap kicked out of me because of the other player's skill, but twinking requires no skill. It's as lame as gold farming.

Its about as unfair that twinks can kill an untwinked player as lvl 60s can kill a lvl 20 with no effort, or that an epic'd out lvl 60 can beat someone clad in greens and blues. Time for reward is the name of the game people.

In 10-19 playing vs twinks is IDENTICAL to being in level 60 bg playing vs people with BWL/AQ/Naxx gear for me. There really is no difference to how frustrating it can be to play against people with obviously better gear that I have a very slim chance of getting myself.
I was looking forward to seeing the new honour system grouping people up with similar geared/ranked people, but from the looks of it, this will only effect the new arena BGs... which in turn do not generally favour protection warriors or holy priests.
Most of the twink I play alongside are really bad BG players and generally don't contribute to actually winning the game. They seem to be concerned with showing off their sharp blades, rather than trying to get the honour or rep that I like to get out of battlegrounds.

Being better geared, fine, but it's often enchants that come into play that mess everyone up. 100hp on chest, crusader, even some of the book enchants to head/legs. In the expansion, enchants will have level reqs on them, so this will hopefully phase out a lot of this scary twinking, or at least enough to let you go back and enjoy leveling up in the BG's in the teen's and twenty's.

People who grind their twinks to get awesome gear is perfectly acceptable. It's when twinks get enchantments and other items greatly disproportionate to their level (such as the mentioned Crusader enchant) that things spiral out of control.
Blizzard should work out what is acceptable at which level range and apply it to in-game enchants (akin to potions). If Crusader required level 45 or above to proc for a weapon (which it should), it would be unusable to the twink until he reached the level. This way the enchant may be applied to *all* weapons, and the twinks can't abuse high-end enchant effects.
Twinks don't ruin PvP BGs (on a pure stat/armor/weapon stance), the lack of game mechanic restrictions do. Or at least, that's how I see it. I think the itemization in the lower levels is very nicely balanced.

Oh twinks. One of the main reasons why I have a lvl 19 warlock twinkis to compete with other twinks. The other reason was to prove that casters could be twinks to my roommates and to anyone online that said they couldn't.
There are a TON in my cross-server WSGs actually. Maybe it's because of this fact that I expect WSG to be a "twink's game" and get pissed when I see people come in at lvl 10 or with crappy gear. I support a twink bracket if there ever willbe one. I mean I basically have one right now.
It's not totally fair to people just leveling and giving BGs a try, but I don't think it should be outlawed. If people want to spend (read: "waste" for some people) their time (takes careful planning to be twinked out, not just gold) and money into the lvl 19 BGs then they should be welcome to. You can either bitch and moan or move on. Or make one like myself :P
Go out and level if that's more important to you. It tends to even out at higher levels but like someone above stated: someone will always be better geared than you are.

I think twinks, in the gear respect, are perfectly fine. I mean, if you put the time in to get all blues at lvl 20, I say go for it. I had a lvl 25 mage in all blue gear that I worked really hard on just because I had already made a 60, and wanted to play a slow game with ease.
What I think is ridiculous is when people get hundreds of buffs and enchants on their toons just to do battlegrounds is pointless. And what I see with those kinds of players is really a lack of skill, because they depend so much on their buffs to do anything. I've had plenty of times when I've taken out a twinked character (without even having a battleground talent build myself) just because they don't know how to play.

oh come on!
i have never played with a twinked char but i have beaten the crap out of several twinks. stop whineing about twinks beeing bad and learn how to beat them instead. your gear isn't what ends the fight.. it's your skill. L2P

I myself play a 29 twink holy priest in BGs, and the only reason anyone hates playing us twinks is because we don't play like people expect a twink too. We don't go into a bg one or two of us with kick ass gear and enchants... we make a full group battle out of it and farm rep, winning BGs and working on our teamwork. 85% of the time we are playing against equally horde based Twink teams and it becomes a challenge where it's which guild can win... Twinking is always about skill because we don't care if we win against a pug, we only care if we win against a twink team... besides, this is no worse than jumping into a 60 BG and losing in 5 seconds to an honor team. It's about fun, and thats what we do, as a team.

didnt know if anyone said it but blizz is gonna fix it that u cant put the most powerfull enchants on lowbie items, and for the rest bl;izz cant rly do somethin bout it
kerrizor Nov 19th 2006 9:22AM
I played in the BGs for a bit, but after several frustration hours of getting bashed by twinks who clearly had high-level support, I moved on, never to return. I don't care about honor - so much effort and actual real-life cash required to buy the gold to buy the gear so that you could have a fancy title in the game? Wow... if its your thing, more power to you, but I'll stay PvE, thank you.

If somebody wants to put dual fiery on their 19 rogue to win at WSG, I have no problem with that. If somebody wants to get tier 3 gear and burn down people in AB or whatever, I have no problem with that.
Twinking is only as big of a problem as epic raiders. Both are a waste of time to me, but that's how I play the game. I try not to grudge anybody for the choices they make in playing the game. As long as their not using hacks (or whatever) to win, than I'm cool with it.
That being said, it's time to get over the twink argument. Twinks are here, they always will be here. Either start farming low level blues to sell to twinks, or get over it.
obo Nov 19th 2006 4:49PM
Add a stock-gear battleground. Every class has a standard set of gear and a supply of pots and bandages, and poisons and shards as needed. Make the stock gear a purchasable reward so hardcore PvPers and preset groups can practice with it, and give higher-ranked players enchantments on their stock gear as a reward.
Skilled players get tangible rewards that improve their performance, and money is taken out of the equation. "B-b-b-but what about all my hard work raiding? All the epics I farmed? All the blues I bought in the AH?" Well, go to the regular BGs., they're still there.
I'd start playing WoW again if this was implemented, because it simply cannot get old. I'd hoped the arena system would work this way.
obo Nov 19th 2006 4:55PM
PS - I'm also a fan of automatically granting small amounts of experience daily to players under level 20, regardless of play time, to prevent freezing characters in the lowest BGs. That tier should be for people learning to play so they don't get yelled out of higher BGs for not knowing how to play - instead, they just get beaten to death and never bother to L2P.
Exolon Nov 20th 2006 8:27AM
If only one or two twinks are in ws, it doesn't matter for me. But i'm pissed off, if a guild of pimped BG twinks with 5-10 Members camps near the ghost healer.
Flit Nov 20th 2006 10:00AM
For all of you people with twinks (sounds like most of you here are) and are telling everyone to "L2P", I'm sorry, but there is nothing about knowing how to play when my warrior dies in 2 hits from any twinked rogue, one gouge and one backstab later, i'm gone. This goes for my warrior who has some pretty good gear on him, he's no twink (apparently).
And, this doesn't account for when an entire guild of twinks comes into the bg's. When lvl 19's are all sergents, something is wrong here.
Just nerf crusader and fiery and any other high level enchants for such low lvls. I mean, if a priest will soon be unable do de higher level items, he shouldn't be able to enchant lower level items with such high lvl enchants.
And as for the automatic experience for lower levels, maybe just give automatic experience for each bg, instead of turning in marks. Or a combination, give a little bit for each bg won, and give marks.
gorkish@gurubashi Nov 20th 2006 10:38AM
You know of course that Blizzard is changing the matching algorithm for BG now, right? I think it is with the expansion but it may be in 2.01 already... If you're not a twink you are less likely to be paired off against one. If you have a lv 19 double-crusader enchanted 240 engineer gnome rogue... well let's just say you won't be running around like a god as much anymore because you're going to get paired up against some formidable people.

That's why I have over 1k gold invested in my twink. Speaking of which I recently acquired a Shadowfang and just have to get some fancy enchants on it and I'll be ready to beat up the horde premades that we regularly see.
Donner Nov 20th 2006 12:50PM
I think that enchancts should be made so you have to be say lvl 50 to get a crusader enchancts. Gear though is understandable twinks work for that stuff unless its something like a boe but meh thats not as overpowering as a lvl 19 rouge with two +15 agility enchants or something like that.
