Breakfast Topic: Best Change In WoW
WoW has been out for nearly 2 years, and it has changed a lot in that time...as MMORPGS tend to do. Dungeons have been added, classes have been nerfed (everyone but warlocks that is....hah hah) and a ton of new items and gear have been introduced. But which change since November 2004 has been the best?
In my opinion, the adding of the Dire Maul dungeon was my personal favorite. It had tons of good loot for my priest, three wings to explore and the tribute run was profitable from a gear standpoint and had some good laughs. I am also partial to Ogres, so it was win-win for me.
What about you guys? What is the best thing Blizzard has done since launch? Battlegrounds? The war effort? Nerfing druids?

For me it was the battlegrounds, especially the addition of Arathi Basin (I just *love* that BG).
And the patch where they added the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) because of the spell books (first in our guild to loot FrostboltXI, yay!).

The music for AQ and Naxx :p

The one where they finally managed to keep the servers up for more then 24 hours.

I'm not certain if I feel that this is the "best" change, but it the first thing that comes to mind (even over the aforementioned introduction of the battlegrounds). The constant addition of grave yards and flight paths has probably helped the convenience aspect of the game to no end. For people new to the game, they are commonplace and not quite noticed. For the rest of us however, these new points-of-interest are quite a blessing.

I'll second the battlegrounds patch. The fact that they weren't added at the same time the honor system came into being drove me nuts. Our server (Malygos) was extremely unbalanced at the time and the Alliance basically made the big cities un-usable for about a week. They were wiping out every city's vendors with giant groups of people that lagged it out big time. When the battlegrounds finally showed up that made things interesting.
I guess the second favorite patch would be the combined battlegrounds. It was a lot harder to get a good group going into AV, or AB. Now that other servers are combined in it's pretty easy to get started fast.

The 5-man cap of Scholo and Strath.
While widely bemoaned at the time, it forced players to learn the team dynamics necessary to defeat difficult encounters. When my guild moved onto UBRS and ZG, we were actually *prepared* for long, tough fights.
Nothing in the game has taught me more about my class (Priest) than 5-man Strath UD.

The Scourge Invasion event was amazing and I am waiting for other such events. These are by far the best changes as they make the world feel more real with events that come and go.

Best thing for me: Making Scholo 5 manable. God that was awful at the beginning. Spawn times were so bad...it was very hard to 5 man back then.
BG I believe was the Worst thing for me. And the DK system. It killed crossroad , Astranar, Southshore, Tauren Mill wars. I really was hoping they would have opened a new continent that was made of captureable cities that took two raids to take or something.
DAOC player here ...I expected something similar to Frontiers classic for pvp =(

I enjoy seasonal content and the mini quests. Simple, quick, and fresh. I'd Love to see more easy stuff like that put in more often. It's the little things.

"classes have been nerfed (everyone but warlocks that is....hah hah)"
I think you've nailed it with that one. My favorite change had to be the buffing of the warlocks.
I've had my warlock main since the release of the game, and I can barely believe how the playing experience changed with the major overhauls that changed our DoT dynamics, reworked our crowd control abilities, completely restructured the demo tree, ect.. ect..
We went from being the absolute weakest to one of the strongest classes in PvP.... it's just far more fun to be a warlock now than it was then.

The best thing ever was the linking of the auction houses and the trade channels.
I remember when the only way to sell anything Alliance side was in Ironforge. I was on dial-up at the time. You can barely walk around in Ironforge on dial-up. I used to have to mail all of my herbs, skin, boe greens, etc., to my boyfriend to sell for me and mail back the money. When they put auction houses in the other cities and linked them, I was able to start doing my own trading in Darnassus (because nobody goes there even to this day hehe).

Battlegrounds, then cross server battlegrounds. No longer have to wait for hours to queue, yay.
World PvP is for kids who were dropped as babies.

I liked the addition of the extra battle grounds(pre-change to AVzergathon). And yes, DMaul was an awesome edition to the game. It gaves those who where burnt out on BRS/BRD/Strath/Scholo, a chance to get really good gear and do it in a 5 man. Imo, Dm is one of the better instances in the game.
As for the comment from Hide. Sorry.. but world pvp actually made the game fun. If you have only spent your time in bgs and never had the experience of the epic battles in South Shore and Taren Mills..so massive they crashed servers. Seen Dark shire destroyed to the ground (pre-dks), or seen all out assults on Thunder Bluff(normally ending with Cairne laying dead)... you don't know what real pvp is.

When they introduced the outdoor raidbosses. Especialy Azuregos, we had two and a half raids for the first kill. One raid was fore Azuregos and the other one and a half raids were to fight off the Alliance.
Those first three Azzy kills were the most fun I'd ever had in WoW

Definitely battlegrounds. It was the first time "real" PvP was introduced to the game. Mixed with the honor system (though flawed) and cross-realm battlegrounds, instanced PvP has become my favorite WoW pastime.

Dire Maul and X server BGs.

I have to agree with #13 - Linked Auction houses were the single greatest improvement to the game. The other items listed were all content- dungeons, battlegrounds, etc. But only having one AH per faction was crippling, as it placed the 3-5 most visited spots in the game within spitting distance of each other: AH, bank, mailbox, and in LagForge the city entrance and Griffon flightpath. Until the AH's were linked, the lag getting into IF was worse than the server queue. Plus, it finally meant that all the NE's didn't "have" to run to IF for an AH, meaning IF could finally be properly stunty. Best game IMPROVEMENT - definitely splitting out the AH's to the other cities.

It was the Mage patch for me with 30% threat reduction and 6% +hit. Of course, Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom are nerfing these two things that fixed the Mage class. G-freakin-G
