The long and short of battlegrounds
Speaking of a little PVP strategy, a good strategy in the battlegrounds can definitely mean the difference between a quick "four noder" in AB, or a long, drawn out turtlefight in AV. Artemis F makes an interesting point over on Livejournal with a roundup of the longest AVs players have ever seen-- before the battlegrounds, AV matches ran for a looooong time-- from three or four hours all the way up to days at a time.
Of course, now that we're in the era of premades and crossrealm battlegrounds, things can be much, much faster. Here's a video, linked from the thread, of a Horde premade finishing the thing off in just under four minutes.
Unfortunately, not all groups are as well organized (and knowledgeable-- what's that deal they do with the Generals at the end there?) as this one, and I'll often log into a WSG late at night hoping for a quick 15 minute match, only to have it turn into a 45 minute grind as one side hides the flag and/or farms away the HKs. As for AV, my average time is about 45 minutes or so, but never much longer than two hours. What are you seeing out there in the BGs? I'm sure nothing is as fast as they're predicting arena matches to be (under 5 minutes each, we've been told), but we don't still have weekend long AV games. Do we?

You can pull and kite each full side of marshalls at the same time, since they won't leash. This leaves the Capn open for killing like so.

This is about the only way the Horde can win AV. I've been in a few games with some guys from Windrunner (I think), and they got it done in 9 minutes, without a full group of 40 of their guys like this. Seems most other games though in my battle grouping go to Alliance. Though if a game makes it past 30 minutes, the chances of the Horde being able to clear their area so we can get to their general increases. Let's hear it for Alliance being able to skip 75% of our NPC's while we have to clear 75% of theirs.

Keep QQ'ing, Horde own both WSG and AB, can't we Allies at least have AV? Throw us a friggin' bone for christ's sake. Even if we have a much easier time of getting to your base than you do ours, I'll take it every single damn time.

The longest AV i have ever been in lasted more than 24 hours.
I was in at the start of if on a saturday morning, logged off at about midnight, striaght 11 hours in there, survived on munchies, Ate dinner, showered went to sleep, woke up, 5am looged on signed up for AV ended up in the same AV I started in, and we finished later that day at around 5pm. it was Awsome.

I enjoy a good game of AV when both sides have good offense AND defense. These 10 minute races to the end NPCs, where the players just ignore and run past each other to their respective end goals, are booooooring. Does everything in this game need to be "farmed"? Don't people enjoy an actual good tense standoff and game anymore?

That was the most boring PvP video I've ever seen. It wasn't even a PvP video practically as no player vs. player action happened. You only see these guys riding through AV for over 2,5 minutes and then downing the boss in a little over 1 minute. Well. Interesting that it can be pulled of, but boring as hell...

How do you enter as a group preform for AV? "Join As Group" isnt an available option at the battlemaster.

You create a group and then have someone queue for AV. Then once it pops, you all get the option to join in.
