Breakfast Topic: New PvP system bringing you down?
With the upcoming 2.0.1 patch, the existing honor system will be scrapped and an entirely new method applied. Instead of spending hour upon hour each week struggling to aquire countless honor points in order to maintain PvP rank (when the highest ranks required more weekly effort than a standard full-time job), the new system is rankless, and rewards will be purchased from vendors using honor points as a type of currency. But if you're just shy of rank 14 the week the patch comes out, I'm certainly going to feel sorry for you -- because all of your time and effort within the system vanishes with the application of the patch. Yes, you'll still have any rewards you've purchased, but if you were still attempting to rank up to obtain higher level rewards, you'll be starting from scratch with everyone else. And the PvP factions? Meaningless -- their rewards will also now be purchased with honor points. For my part, I completely stopped PvPing when I heard this new system was being implemented (I didn't have 80 hours a week to put in anyway, so high warlord was already out of the question!), feeling that continued efforts to grind myself up could be better spent elsewhere. But there are many players, even now, hard at work grinding honor and ranking up. So which side of the fence are you on -- desperately trying to get that last rank before the patch is released, or biding your time and waiting for the new system to show up?Filed under: Ranking, PvP, Breakfast Topics, Patches

@1...
I guess you missed something.
The new system isn't in place now.

I got to rank 8 this week and that´s it. I did one week per rank (6, 7, 8), each week taking more out of my life than the last. That´s it for me, I won't be doing any more battlegrounds until the patch.
It´s just not worth it, even if they weren't changing the system. The whole thing becomes more work than fun, even annoying.

I was trying to get my rank 14 over the last coupl of months. I was happy to see that I could do it before the patch! I got my rank 14 2 weeks ago.
I'm not sad or angry because all my effort to achieve my rank will be wiped. I still have my weapons which will help me to level and give me a good boost for dual wield (I'm a shaman!)
I think that the new system is really good. Everyone will be able to get what they want.
I'm happy overall. :)

I also think, the change was really necessary.
The Honor grind was just too mutch, and as much as I loved to have those High Warlord Weapons, I never saw a way to obtain them without quitting my job and breaking up with my girlfriend.
Now, things have changed and bit by bit I'll come close to my weapons.
greetings Tigraine

I do PvP a little bit and I'm just a scout. I've almost reached rank 2 this week.
Will our existing honour be converted to points for vendors?

The impending change and it hasn't really affected my BG time. I play Arathi Basin because it's fun. The rep rewards were just a bonus.
I like the idea of the change in honor system but I hope they don't base the honor, and comensurately time, requirements for the top tier stuff on the frankly ridiculous amounts of time the top ranked players now put in. If I still need the equivalent of 1000 hours of honor farming to get my stuff but now it'll take a year instead of being forced into two or three months, that's not really an improvement.

I'm glad faction rewards and armors are gonna be available to anyone who can accumulate enough tokens; put in the time needed to get the tokens without having to worry about rep and rank grinding is good news.
Fortunately, my priest is only rank 8, and his AB rep is too slowly building up for him to even consider getting the exalted staff or caster dagger within the next month (AB and WSG have the worst rep grind in game); now it's a possibility.
However, if I had grinded to grand marshal or whatever other very high rank, I'd be pissed like hell.

It really can't be hard to implement some way of giving the higher rank people some points come system change, I mean all the stats are already there aren't they?
I didn't PvP because the system was a mess, but there are those that did that are getting screwed for no damn reason other then lazy designers.

In the last few weeks I've ramped up my PvP (via battlegrounds) by quite a bit. I wanted to make sure I had a full stack of each BG token so I get a head start on the stuff I want to buy when the patch does hit.
But, now that I do have a stack of 20 of each token, I'm going to focus on other things until the day before the patch. Then I'm going to try and win as many AB and WSG matches as possible so I'll have even more tokens waiting for me in my mailbox.

You mean I'll have to do PvP in order to get my AV arrows/bullets comes 2.0? I would hate having to do PvP to get basics consumables. (I'm also a fan of AV biscuits but I can go back to the lesser AD ones.)
In BC, there will be probably be better arrows than that but not between 2.0 and BC.
Gonna have to research this.

Double honour/rep weekend for AV starts tonight, hoping to get revered before the patch so I can get the quiver and bandolier seeing as the only upgrades after that are only obtainable at level 68 (ridiculously long time to wait for just two more ammo slots).

It's a great change, I hit the rank I wanted to on my warrior a long time ago and then my pvping just kind of tapered off because I knew that all the 'good stuff' was out of my reach.
Now, not so much. Sooner it gets here the better.
White Rabbit Nov 23rd 2006 4:56PM
I just started doing BG's for the first time yesterday
does this mean there's no point in even bothering starting until the patch? Could someone please inform me?
Sava Nov 23rd 2006 7:54PM
As long as I get rank 11 before the patch I will be happy. Im at 66% of rank 10 right now so I will be hitting rank 11 this comming Tuesday. As long as that is not patch day I will be ok with it. I really think the new honor system will be a big improvement. I just want my mount! :D
Unregistered Nov 23rd 2006 9:34PM
crap! i didnt even get a chance to grind (still rankless) and they are scrapping the system. now i will never have a chance to see how far i could have gone as a holy priest in PVP
Tiny Tim Nov 24th 2006 11:03AM
@10
I did the same thing, although because of the busy week I've had with Thanksgiving I haven't suceeded in recieving 20 of all, but I'm really close and I'm sure I will be done by the time the patch goes live.
Chris Nov 24th 2006 1:04AM
Playing the battlegrounds under the PTR patch is great. You can theoretically get a piece of the rank 14 gear in one week of heavy grinding. Don't want to grind? Take your time. You never lose your points. It sure beats 3-6 months of intense grinding.
Teut Nov 24th 2006 1:45AM
Blizard is stupid. They take away something players worked for. Yes, the new system is fair, as it allows all players to gain rewards.
But what about the payers who spent a LOT of time on their rank?
Simple idea: give the players a rebate on token buys depending on their old rank. Yep, easy, and it would work. Vut Blizzard don't want that for whatever reason
White Rabbit Nov 24th 2006 6:22AM
@ Teut
they can get a life now
