Breakfast Topic: Queues, Queues Everywhere

I have seen stories of queues on certain realms over the past month or so. Some realms are better than others, but this Thanksgiving weekend really, really tried my patience. I was facing 500+ person queues on Argent Dawn, Bloodhoof and my newly adopted home Fenris. In fact, my previous post about the server seeming kind of dead no longer applies, as I was looking at a 700+ person queue on several occasions over the past couple of days.
Granted, it was a holiday weekend here in the states, so that could account for some of the congestion, but with the expansion set to hit in a matter of weeks, will we all be looking at monster queues on a nightly basis? Maybe selling World of Warcraft with a discount $20 price tag, or the barrage of demo discs that have flooded the market are starting to have an effect.
What do you guys think? Are you sitting in queues every night? Are there some realms with no wait who could use some new blood?

Zuluhed was actually more dead this weekend then ever. My guild was the only guild to do a 40 man all week.
Most guilds had to pug for 20 mans.

There was a queue last night on my PvE realm from 8PM when I first got on all the way up to 10:30PM when I logged back on later. At 8, the queue was around the 200 mark and by 10:30 it was still in the 50 range.
Unless there has been a huge influx of players across the board, I suspect Blizzard has lowered the max number of players allowed to be logged in at one time per server.

m8 ur missing a thing here all realm will be expanded by aproxematly 25% so altho loads of people wanna go on and play once the expansion comes the queue will fade(at least if u dont get flooded with new people)

Stormrage was great after the hardware upgrade and paid server transfers. When they started letting people transfer TO stormrage it started getting worse. Queues around 100-200 during primetime now.

Queues? What queues?
Dave Nov 27th 2006 8:57AM
I didn't have any Queues at all until last night at around 9PM. It was 250+, and I just said F it. I was surprised that I didn't hit any other Qeues all weekend.

Blizzard is ill prepaired for this expansion, and run by buffoons, so I expect the worst.

Blizzard is prepared. It's not their fault everyone chose one server. The server performances of most realms have improved tremendously.

Although I've rarely hit queues, this does cause me some concern. I'm on Elune - which is one of the original servers - and although I'm confident Blizzard has the hardware upgraded to handle the expansion, I do wonder how many players that have left and aren't playing much will be coming back to flood the server once the expansion is available. The trick that seems to work for me is to log in right after getting home from work - even if we aren't planning on going on runs until a couple hours later - the later in the evening, the longer the queue.

Gnomeregan had 100-200 queues the last couple of nights. For the longest time we had none at all, being a somewhat new server. The thing that *I* blame for the surge in traffic on Gnomer is the big multi-day maintenance a month and a bit ago when half the servers were offline. All the morons (it seems, speaking generically) came from the servers that were down and rolled on Gnomer because it was up. The queues that week were BRUTAL. I figured most of those characters would be deleted, but it seems that the server has been more packed than it should be since. I've said it before, but I STRONGLY feel that they should remove the "recommended" flag from all servers when they are doing maintenance, or else some poor server gets whacked when they take a handful of them down to be upgraded.

Hit queues on Kirin Tor for only the second time ever last night. During the 830-9pm EST time-frame, the queue was about 150 folks deep. I hope this is not an ominous foretelling of things to come.

O_o at #8. Not Blizz's fault???
So is PCT run by EA? No it's run by Blizz.
They just don't seem to be able to manage server player numbers.
Btw, we've not had queues on EU Bloodhoof (one of the "oldest" EU servers) for some weeks, even months now.
Blizz EU musta got fed up with all the criticism.

I play on Hakkar(PvP) and have nearly every night since May, and have not once been in queue.
Prior to that, I played on Garona(PvE) for a year, and was subjected to being in queue ever single Friday and Saturday night on our MC raid nights, and then again any time a holiday, or day off school for the kiddies hit during the week.
I have to say, I've very happy to not return to Garona. And would like to suggest that no one transfer to Hakkar :-D

I still think its funny that gnomergon has 100-200 person queues and they still havent opened the aq gates :P so what if there only 5 months old....
my server started like 10 months ago and we have 1(almost 2) KT downing guilds :D

Cenarion Circle has been comfortably queueless for months and months.

Brandon Nov 27th 2006 12:55PM
I ran into my first queue last night on Gilneas trying to log in, nothing as horrendous as some of the others I've heard about, I was number 100, but it was still the first time I'd seen it on that server.

Malorne is as dead as dead can be. But what can you expect from the 4th lowest populated server. I kinda wish we had at least a few more people. I don't want it to become a super high realm, but sometimes I'll be in TB and not see another soul.
Matt Nov 27th 2006 2:04PM
I dunno about other servers, but Dragonmaw US had no wait what so ever and totally seemed deserted most of the night.....
Sturn Nov 27th 2006 2:17PM
@ Prauche
Yeah, I am on Kirin Tor as well and this weekend saw the first and second times (that I can remember at least) seeing a queue. The first one was Saturday afternoon and only about 15 people long. Last night, around the time you mentioned, I hit a ~120 queue and waited for about 5 mins.
