Breakfast Topic: Weird Stats
You've probably seen the new stats page-- Blizzard has made numbers available for created and gathered items, most dangerous mobs, most auctioned items, and even most completed quests. To be sure, it is a little useless (three warlock pets are in the top 20 of most dangerous mobs, which doesn't tell us much besides the fact that warlocks are overpowered). But then again, there's interesting stuff if you poke around a little. Of the top auctioned items, almost the top 200 are all mats for crafting. The first actual equippable item i could find was Hillman's Shoulders at #142 (look for them on this week's Phat Loot Phriday). And while most of the created items are pretty self explanatory (raiders and PVPers alike are creating Heavy Runecloth Bandages like nobody's business), just what exactly is Roasted Boar Meat doing at #28-- I had no idea that many players were into Cooking. And while I laugh at the fact that Drek'Thar has killed more people than any mob in the game (and he only kills Alliance, which means he's killed a lot of Alliance), I'm puzzled by who's pissing off all the Gadgetzan Bruisers (they come in at #17). Haven't you all learned that if you start a fight in Gadgetzan, they'll end it for you?
What other strange stats have you found hidden in those charts? I haven't even started looking at trends from day to day-- do the raid totals for bosses fly up on the weekends?

Many warlock pets in the ranks doesn't mean that they are overpowered - just that they get a lot of killing blows or there are a lot of warlocks who PvP.

"Drek'Thar has killed more people than any mob in the game (and he only kills Alliance, which means he's killed a lot of Alliance)"
-- Just goes to show how many more people wanna play the 'pretty' races rather than the STUDS.
"three warlock pets are in the top 20 of most dangerous mobs, which doesn't tell us much besides the fact that warlocks are overpowered"
@1 - Yes, this DOES mean that locks are overpowered. You don't see hunter pets up there do you? That being said, as my #2 alt is a lock, I have no problem with that. =]

I can't check the list here at work, because it's blocked, but I know in the past that Defias Pillagers were way up there and 'Cat' was in the top ten.
That's a hunters pet that just never got renamed.
And since no other class besides Hunters and Warlocks have pets, I'm not sure how that figure demonstrates anything but that pets aren't useless.

I think there is a far more logical reason why the Warlock pets are up there on the list - its not so much that they are over powered, its that they have more possible chances to kill players.
First, when a warlock wants to get their new summon, they have to fight it. Often this is attempted solo, and sometimes its unsuccessful. So that would count as player kills.
Second, when Warlocks have them as pets and go PVPing - this is what most people are assuming is the case. Sure, that will account for the majority of the kills listed, but not all.
Third, there are many mobs in the game that have the ability to summon warlock pets. These would also count for the kill total.
Add that all up and you have plenty of opportunities for a warlock pet to be killing a player.

At this point, I am surprised I dont see "nerf locks" on the front of the morning paper. What do you see, like maybe 1 or 2 in a BG at a time? Ruins your day that much, huh?
Gnomercy Nov 30th 2006 11:08AM
those imps/succubi/demondoggies are from levels 3-60 warlocks. when you're really low leveled, I'd say your pet can get a killing blow a 10th of the time maybe. just depends on the tick. Hardly means nerf warlocks. if they grouped all hunter's pets, it would probably be number 1.

The warlock pets up there on the list are not because of player characters minions, but rather because of NPC's and their minions.
Ever go to Tanaris? You have to kill Warlocks for a quest and people die there often. Ever go to Darkshore? Yup, a quest to kill Dark Strand Voidcaller. How about Felwood? There you do the quest: Forces of Jaedenar. All have Warlock pets associated with them.
How many NPC Hunters do you run into in the game that you have to fight.
Houndmaster in SM isnt a Hunter... So thats zero.

Even in ashenvale the satyrs have warlock pets.

I'll say it again; I like locks -- 'specially playin one!
However, to vlad3060 @6:
Um, it's odd, but there are ten pages worth of Hunter mobs on thottbot.

Some hunters for you.
vlad3060 Nov 30th 2006 3:43PM
Prauche, that list encompasses all mobs that have the name "hunter" somewhere in them. However, how many of these mobs are actually tagged as Hunter is beyond me. Furthermore, how many of these mobs actually have a pet attacking you?
I’m guessing that this is meta data that is not collected by the games search and doesn’t appear to be relevant.

Sounds like a few defensive people when it comes to the 'locks are OP' thing and I used to think they were too, not so since playing on the PTR, mangle and primal tenacity are my new best friends!

I didn't work on my cooking on my main until level 50 or so. To get it up the first 50ish levels I went out in front of IF and farmed boars for a few hours. Not only did it give my a chance to level the weapon skills that were lacking, but it gave me plenty of boar meat to roast.

Kolkar Pack Runners in the Barrens are hunters.
Trollyboy Nov 30th 2006 9:52PM
Razormane hunters in the barrens have pets also.
