Goodbye DHKs, Hello big-time World PVP
Nethaera takes a fairly close look at one of my favorite features of Tuesday's patch: No more dishonorable kills! Yes, DHKs have been hated by players for a long time, and with the upcoming patch, they'll be gone-- Horde and Alliance alike will be able to lay waste to any town, village, or city they want without any honor penalties. Now, Neth says that the reason DHKs are out is because the devs tried leaving them out, and apparently it worked on the test realms. Some NPC levels have been raised, and some have been lowered, so there may be other incentive in game to keep people from mauling, say, Crossroads on a regular basis. Also, there are some new World PVP options in the works-- don't count those out. But Neth also says that things are constantly being monitored-- if city raids become an issue, the situation will be revisited. As a few players point out, however, (and I agree), the test realm players aren't the day-to-day players. People will do almost anything in this game, so I expect raids to show up on a pretty regular basis, even on PVE servers.
Not that you need to get rid of DHKs to do a massive raid. MBAzeroth reports that the Penny Arcade Alliance (named after the comic, duh) on the Dark Iron server pulled off a big one. Alliance coordinated and invaded the capital cities while running distraction raids on Brill, Tarren Mill, and Crossroads. The casualty list is shocking: Cairne, Thrall, Vol'jin, Varimathas, and almost Sylvanas before the server got downed by the raid. Now that's some good World PVP. Are we looking at something like this every week when DHKs go bye-bye? One can only hope.

I believe without trying to be rude, That Disruptive behavior is not caused if someone can PVP or Not PvP…a butthead can manage to disrupt your play in PvP or PvE no matter what.
Adding guards isn’t a solution and in some ways ruins the fun of freedom of play in the world. PVE allows you to roam in peace…but it doesn’t protect you from disruptive buttheads….
For example: You spot Thorium Vein…you clear the mobs…bam the other faction dude is on top it. On PVE all you can do is piss and moan..and it did disrupt you did it not? On PvP you can kick his ass for it.
Disruptions will happen…a butthead will find a way. No matter if Pvp or Pve or world raids… simple solution that you can control vs. what you cant control.
ADAPT …Relocate…Do something else …god there is so much else to do you can put down that quest if that town is mowed over and go to another.
You dont have to like world raids...but its part of the play in the game..and many folks "do" like it. It does add flavor and excitement to the game.

quoting 18: "In my perfect game, I'd be on a completely PVP disabled server, where BGs were the only way to flag up at all."
Hell yes, I'd transfer in an instant if such a thing existed. I'd prefer to play with people who don't see the point in screwing with their fellow players.

Every Horde city has a back door because Alliance play = Easy Mode.
I thought that was common knowledge.

Ive played SWG a little after i played WoW and its PvP system was great... i whish some day blizzard would try this but in SWG factions can take over cities.... i liked how this worked there and i think it would be even better in WoW

Then don't play MMOG's. Perhaps Mario Bros. will be better suited for you.

I don't really like the DHK system. I think that although it may be more complicated to program a better solution may be to have the server spawn more higher level NPCs the longer a faction tries to raid a town or city. So if the Alliance comes and rolls over Crossroads, it's no big deal. But if they camp Crossroads, greater numbers of level 60 guards would start spawning (it would be even better if they would run from Orgrimmar). If the NPCs that spawn eventually go to be high enough level or numerous enough the raiding force would have to leave. Blizzard could even have special units that would only be called in if the situation got out of hand. Something like the Ancient Protectors. But this would only happen after say an hour of a raid.

In my opinion (which may not count for much) this would be terrible and I would never join a server like this.
If you want something like that with no PvP except in BGs play DAOC or something, where you don't even share the environment with opposing factions!
Nothing breaks up a boring quest grind or reputation grind (Timbermaw anybody?) like having some fool gank you while fighting a mob and still kicking their arse!
If you get yours handed to you, no drama, come back, hide and eat/drink/buff and go back to face them again! this type of world PvP, whilst occasionally annoying, makes you a better PvP player.
Anybody can stand back and aimed/mulit-shot, run into a group of opposition and tag them before blinking away, aoe fear dot, dot and dot, rinse repeat etc, but even par 1v1 is where it's at (and I don't mean duels.)
World PvP is here to stay and Dishonourable kills just impede this, I've had people kill my NPCs incessantly before, so I just moved on or came back with and equal sized group and had some PvP fun.
As for the "you're on a PvP server, deal with it" style argument, I think that is a valid point and it spices the game up a bit.
When I was leveling and I saw a higher lvl char it was game over, if you beat them, shame on them, otherwise, no biggy. So do I do this to other lowbies? hell yes I do! Not if they're on an escort quest or something, but if they're just grinding, sure why not?
Sorry for such a long drawn out post, gotta fill my work day somehow!

@#10... I agree, although Blizzard could easily fix 99% of the problem by making main quest givers unattackable as that's the most irritating part of trying to quest while a city is being camped (i.e. Tarren Mill).
RubberDuckk Dec 5th 2006 10:59AM
Great now when im questing in Tarren Mill with my lowbie characters there wont even be a consequence for that childish preteen brat whos just ganked me 4 times in a row with his level 60
whoop lets bring on the good times where noobs and twinkers get away with spoiling the game for others
i suppose its move to PvE then but why should i? i want PvP but for it to be fair whats fair in a level 60 ganking level 25 4 times in a row then taunting theres no logic to it
as for raids all great and dandy till i get DC ten times in a row becuase of it great stuff and i wasnt even part of the raid
NOTE: ALLYS SUCK :-D
