Forum Post of the Day: I rolled a healing class because...
As a priest, I can relate. I rolled a healing class because I wanted to feel like I was making a serious contribution to any group I was in -- a contribution that you couldn't start the instance run without. Maybe it was a long history of being unable to find healers for groups when playing characters. But I've had my share of rough times at the healing game, and seem to get yelled at for not healing in Alterac Valley as often when I am healing as when I'm not. So why did you roll a healing class? This thread delves into the mysteries of why healers roll healers -- and why not all of them did it to heal. And, hey, if nothing else, it's worth a few giggles.Filed under: Druid, Paladin, Priest, Shaman, Instances, Features

I rolled my priest for the exact same reason. I wanted an alt and I was sick of seeing guild 5-mans through to 20-mans failing purely due to a lack of healing classes online.
My hunter is still my main right now, but if what I've read of hunter CC being 90% resisted and our DPS being so gimped we are on par with healing-specced priests/druids/paladins/shamans is anything more than just the typical WoW forum QQing over nothing, there won't actually be any point in having hunters on raids other than one for pulling. If that happens, my lil' dorf priest may actually become my main.
The sad thing? Despite being worthless for anything more than pulling in raids, clothies will still be calling for us to be nerfed in PvP.

Respec a healing class and the character can quickly transforn into a DPS class, or in the case of my druid, a tank as well. For those who don't have huge amounts of time to invest in WoW a healing class offers flexibility in play style.
Regarding complaints about heals... no matter how well you heal someone will always complain. I recall once in Warsong I was healing nonstop and this warrior (leader of the raid) starts jumping up and down in front of me yelling "why dod't you heal me?". I responded "I've been healing nonstop. Go fight and I might heal you." and he kicked me from the raid :) A healer comes face to face with many losers. I was playing my druid at the time so I went feral.

I rolled a paladin because my warrior kept dying and I was spending too much money fixing armor. I know people have something against paladins, but I'm really quite happy as a pally.
Darkwarder Dec 5th 2006 12:23AM
I rolled a druid because:
1.) My pally couldn't get an invite to MC
2.) My guild needed another healer
3.) My guild needed another tank

I rolled a priest because it was so much fun lolsmiting people in DotA (Before Allstars FTW BTW). I thought it would be pretty much the same. It basically is with the exception that the spells I use to heal are different than the ones I use to melt faces and I can't teleport.

I made a priest in order to get into groups easier and get that, ahem, "phat" loot. Plus shadow priests do mad damage.
Jamus Dec 4th 2006 5:57PM
I tried a priest basically because I too could never find one when I needed one... So I decided to try it out and see why.
I can tell you that I did NOT roll one up to get shouted at to heal when someone in your group decides to run out of heal range, but that seems to happen a lot. Maybe we need a Top 5 Peeve List per class here too?

I rolled a priest to try out a different way of playing. Being a frontline player Rogue for so long, I thought it would be a nice change.
I have to admit that being a priest healing in a group is a lot more stressful than just SS, SS, SS, SS, Evis....and a lot more challenging too
Parvin Dec 4th 2006 6:09PM
I rolled a healing class ( druid ) to save the raid ( battle rez) and become a hero in my guild and be paid the big bucks to go into MC/BWL etc.....
HAHAHA pathetic.

I rolled a paladin originally to work with my friend, who was a hunter when the game first came out. I personally just like to be helpful and try to offer up something that others don't usually see as rewarding. Overall I find the experience as rewarding and challenging, I especially look forward to healing in BGs.

I'm rolling Priest in TBC becasue my friends and I are going to form a party for questing and I wanted to try my hand at healing once cause well... I wanted to be imporatant to the group
Gist Dec 4th 2006 7:20PM
When I last rerolled, I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend my time PVPing or PVEing... so I rolled a priest. When the drudgery of healing naxx gets to me, I just spec shadow and melt faces. Best of both worlds.

My main was a hunter so I got sick of being excluded from all the fun! Being a priest is funny, you really notice the difference between the good and bad players.

I roll healing classes because I usually don't trust other healers. It's not that I'm really cynical, I've just been in one too many situations where the healer was distracted by watching tv or suddenly went AFK to feed the kids. Most groups I've been in never have a wipe (unless it was just a tremendously bad pull or something similar) and I always get tells from people saying they've added me to their friends list and want me to help them again, so I must be doing SOMETHING right.
Mike Dec 5th 2006 7:30AM
My experience is probably pretty typical. I started with a warrior, but eventually rolled a priest because it was damn near impossible to get healers for pick-up groups.
Also, in my guild, everyone wants to roll with a priest, but they haven't shown any interest in rolling their own. Admittedly it's difficult soloing for the first few levels (in my case, the first 30 or so), but since I've gotten higher up on the shadow tree, I've been loving it. And I love the challenge of clutch healing, keeping a group alive in situations where lesser players would wipe. Not that I encourage getting to that point in the first place, but it's a hell of a rush when everyone makes it out alive and the rest of the group heaps praise on you for making it work.
Ironically, when I started playing the priest more (it's now my main), it proved to be just about as difficult to find a tank. Now my warrior's been seeing action again.

Oh, and Omerta's totally right. A healer's perspective is unique - it forces you to keep a constant eye on everyone. So you're going to know who's pulling too much agro (or in the case of tanks, who's not holding it), who's rushing in before you and the other casters have recovered mana, etc.

My brother's told me their guilded needed more healers. It was my first character.
I got good at it. Everyone that's ever played with me still remembers me even though I quit my priest in April '05.

From early final beta I wanted a Priest so bad, for the shear name "Smite" and "Mind Blast" ... notice how the word just screams "I'll own you to hell bastard spawn"
... And the word "Smite" if I ever need to end the life of a person, I'd not just like to kill this person - I'd like to bring the wrath of the heavens above and Friggin _Smite_ the buggar... Smite...mmmmmm - that word is so sweet - The Priest is indeed the wrath of the Gods put on kalimdor to bring our light or darkness to the places that needs.
When I first rolled on Release day, there was no doubt in my mind, that "priest" was by far - better than any other class out there, and everyone said "ooh the shaman is so imba you cant even beat him in his sleep" and "rogues are teh one hit combo funstaars"... I quickly resolved that the priest took skill, the others did not.
The Priest Reek of possibilities, and as an undead priest I have all I need - the tools of meny. Even my walk tells it tale of hard work and poor reanimation into my second life...
The Priest has it all, and even though we wear a dress 90% of the time, there's nothing more devistating than Brainwashing people into your faith, and sending them on a drift towards the heavens above or hells below, with spells like mind blast, mind flay, smite and.. our most beautiful (and terrifying) Holy Fire!!!
And most priest would agree that Holy fire, that strikes down from the heavens, in a golden halo of godly power, to woop a sinner, an alliance, a target of our wrath - strike them into submission, bliding them with all our divine energies - and the sound as it hits... - are all worth the time it takes to complete this feat.
And I havnt' even come to the healing part, being the center of all raids and groups, the first target of combat, the most valued player slightly on'par with our plated friends - the tanks... we are the pillar of faith that will lent power to the raid, and with our guidiance and abilities we'll bring life to where suffering is endured, and death to those deemed unworhty of life in the eyes of the shadow...
Casualties are expected all around, but with a bit of faith (and mana) we have the power to stop it all..
So ... when all is Quite and the spoils of war are handed out, we can proud ourselve in light of glory and the knowledge that we helped doing someting no one could do alone, we are teh ultimate team player and for that the reward is success...
The downward side of all is taht when people do bad, we are the first to be blamed, we are the target of their spite and loathing, but be not affraid, we do wield awesome powers and powers scare people of weaker minds, so forgive them for their envy and correct them for their faults, they should know better - unlike those who fail, we priests are not to blame for that rogue or mage who could not hold their tongue at the wrong place, we can only show pity on those with lesser mind and understanding, and hope that the lesson of death will cure them of these faults.

I rolled a priest to experience a different style of play, my main at the time was an undead rogue. Being a priest is great fun. Instances are much more enjoyable and challenging. My priest is now my main.
However, i can see why alot of people don't play priests. The abuse we get when the group wipes is untrue, the constant whispers inviting you to instances do get very annoying and you are the automatic target in PVP.
The plsu side of all that is that if a group is giving me a load of hassle for poor healing, FFS how am i supposed to heal when the tank can't hold aggro, then i just leave and find another group, usually from the constant whispers i get. In PvP, well you just melt faces, just wish we had a shadow based AoE.

I rolled a preist mainly to see how a priest thinks when in an instance. I have a 60 Mage, Warrior and Rogue. I wanted to feel how a priest feels when everyone is doing or not doing their assigned task. I realize that when you are in a good group, the healing is extremely easy. Now that I have my 60 dwarf priest, I know exactly what to do on my Mage, Warrior and Rogue to keep the healer happy. Its a win win situation for all my characters.
