The patch came out yesterday and as you'd imagine, we have some opinions from around the WoW blogging community...
- Paladin Sucks checks in with an interesting piece regarding 2.0.1 pally specs (go figure) and why they like the talent system. Paladin Sucks likes something? Wow!
If you happen to read a good blog entry, or you write one yourself,

I don't give a crap either way. The game is still fun, and that's why I play it.

Well, who wouldn't like the talent system for pallies? My friend's level 60 got respecced last night, and apparently he can do everything from tanking to healing to dps'ing with little effort. His only complaint was he can't summon--and hell, wait til post BC, I'm sure Blizz will give them that too. He ran live strat with a couple of guildies. He and another pally were out tanking the tank (prot specced) in the scarlet crusade section, who, on top of having two super-pallies on the team, had fun with the new rage normalization.
As a prot specced warrior, I found a few things to get excited about with the new patch. However, it can't begin to compare with all the pally stuff. Playing a warrior has always meant that other classes will out dps you--and without a priest backing you up, even prot spec's go down fast in fight. With the new paladin abilities in this patch, they are that much closer to full tanks with healing abilities to boot. Paladins were always a hybrid class, who, in my opinion could tank, but not as well as tanks, and heal, but not as well as priests. Now, I don't know about the healing part, but it appears they have the tanking part nailed.
And please, if you think I'm wrong, tell me, and be brutal about it, and provide some stats too. Me being proven wrong means that my tank won't be worthless afterall, and I won't have to feel like the red-headed step-child of classes. In fact, I'm begging you, someone prove me wrong. Lie about it if you have to.

eh. i find the current paladin talents to be a bit of a cruel joke. ret is fabulous right now because the patch is essentially an earlier fork of what's on the BC beta server atm. so in essence we get 5 weeks of greatness followed by the massive nerf (10s CS, 10% veng) that was 2.02.
add to that the the fact that your burst dps potential diminishes (for the most part) as you level (has to do with how your critrating requirements increase as you go), and i'd actually go as far as to say that ret spec is kinda meh at 70 (atm).
but who knows, maybe blizz will actualy listen and make some of the changes everyone was suggestion (veng for 3 points and CS at 8s, f.e.)

Paladins have moaned and groaned for two years, and with good reason. Since the Horde didn't have Paladins, it was unfair to grant them much tanking utility since Shamans would not be able to fill an equivalent role wearing only mail. As a result, but of the faction-specific hybrids were stuck in the back of raids spamming heals, far outside of their initial vision.
The reason Paladins are looking like (and feeling) a lot more fun since 2.0 went live is because the class is finally undergoing some long overdue core changes. Having a class that can wear plate but only significantly contribute as a back-row healer was retarded. With the impending removal of faction-restriction on Paladins and Shamans, said classes are being more drastically redefined than other classes who's roles have been more clear-cut from launch. If it looks like Paladins are suddenly completely different, it's because in many respects they are.
With all that being said, I really do feel for the Warriors. You guys got hosed with the rage nerf. All I can think of is that your itemization beyond 60 may become incredible, and bring you back up to speed with everyone else. It's small consolation, though, with the expansion still a month away and raids still on the calendar. Only a loser would tell you to QQ.

Oh, and I do want to be clear--I am happy for the pallies out there (and frankly, jealous). My friend has a level 60 pally who he had grown bored with, and aside from raid buffs and back up healing, he didn't do much. He was having alot more fun on his hunter alt, and since these patch changes, he's already talking about playing his paladin more. The paladin changes are perfectly fine with me--I was just looking for more for warriors. I know I can spec fury/arms and do dps but at the end of the day, raiding guilds usually aren't looking for that, and that means I really need to do one thing well--tank. That is what warriors are supposed to do well and that is getting chopped away at both with the new paladin abilities and with the rage normalization. Now, I feel like I can tank, but just not effectively. Here's hoping the BC gear makes up for it.
I had never planned to roll a paladin, but given these changes and how much fun my buddy is having, I'm pretty convinced I'll roll a blood elf pally. They certainly appear to be more of a blast than my warrior at the moment.

If anything, this patch kinda makes up for the utterly horrid 'revision' we got in 1.9.
I feel like I'm making an actual difference in raids now... and by that, I mean AV, since I've yet to do a raid in the standard sense of the word, but still. ya know what I mean.
Paladins are fun to play again!

the talents we have now on live .. are different from the current Beta.
Basically we have the first or second round of beta talents. There's a lot of changes in store for when Burning Crusade is released and our talents change to match what is now seen on the beta.
So yeah .. for the next few weeks, live it up while you can. But read the beta forums to be prepared for the changes.

Yup, time to shelf my warrior for a while. Sure, wasn't suppose to out DPS anyone, but I was suppose to tank better than anyone. Who's gonna want a prot tank when they can have a Pally, who not only tanks but heals and does other finger wiggler type things?
Time to level my alt mage now. Until they get nerfed. Thanks for a whole lot of heart ache blizz.
Sad Panda Shaman Dec 7th 2006 4:02PM
I love how they buffed all the other classes and yet did nothing for the Shaman. The Duel Weilding actually drops your DPS and by the time you are close enough to use it, your dead anyways.
I ended up just respecing to what I had before except I have 6% mana regen all the time. Other then that, my spec is exactly the same as before.
GJ Blizz way to Nerf Shaman again without saying it's another Nerf.

HAHAHAHA...Smishy...you're alt mage until they get nerfed?...ummmm...got some bad, bad news for ya dude.
Might want to break out the alt warlock.
