Breakfast Topic: The best thing about Warcraft today

Last weekend we talked about the biggest problem with Warcraft today. This weekend, let's switch gears and try to decide what the best thing about Warcraft today is -- after all, despite the game's flaws, we're all still here and playing. So what is it that keeps you logging on and interested in the game, rather than jumping into any other MMO on the market?

The fact that i still can't get my caster blade

The fact that I've been playing for a full year, and I have still not experienced all the content, stories, dungeons, regions, and hidden little things in the game. Not since Morrowind have I ever gotten that kind of experience.
And the play dynamics - how the classes can work together and complement each others skills - I love 5-man instance runs. It amazes me to this day that we each have so many skills and abilities, but it's still manageable to learn your class.

It has more personality than any game I've ever played.

Some graphics are crappy. Others are amazingly realistic. WoW's graphics are pretty and stylized, all without being too hard on your machine. And they'll get better with BC.

The graphics are great compared to plenty of MMOs on the market for one thing. Most MMOs have sharp contrasting lines that really ruin the effect. In WoW, I remember being in Dun Morogh and zooming on to my character to see that there was actual mist forming with each breath he took. It's the small things that count.
Also, I love how you get involved in the stories. It makes it seem like you're really part of a plot, instead of just a bystander.

Because my fiancee plays it. Some guys will do anything to get some lovins.

Arbuz reminded me of another thing I appreciated the other day. The idle animations of everything - from players, to npcs, to wyvern mounts resting on the posts. I was waiting for a friend with nothing to do, and I watched all the intricate details the wyvern mounts on the posts had - they'd raise their heads like a cat that spotted something interesting - they'd yawn and lick their chops - their tail flicks on occassion - and even the breathing affects their whole body. That kind of detail is unheard of in many other games - or unnoticed as you're too busy running around killing things.

The fact that :
A) This game still has a little bit of life in it yet.
B) Every other game on the market makes my soul weep and my brain unimpressed.
C) The pvp is at least halfway decent, even if gear > skill too often.
If only somehow I could only transport myself back in time and play some UO before they ruined it with Trammel...

Seeing the spells and abilities from warcraft games in action. Never gets old.

no (very very few) load screens.
I developed very close friends on EQ, we all moved to EQ2, I miss them alot... but lets face it, after waiting >5min (not kidding here) to load a zone that you run through in 5min, to run the zone in

I was so thinking that, Phiro... now I'm freaked out... where are you!? I have my blinds shut!!!
Gamerz22 Dec 10th 2006 2:32AM
Oh, and BTW, I've been playing since May 2005 and don't even have a 60 yet. My highest lvl has been 42...
I just hate them questin'... but I'm suffering through it to get ot 60 for the expansion and PvP!

Quests. Sure, sometimes they're aggravating when you can't find a quest item and you want to go to bed but I enjoy always having a reason other than loot to be killing what I'm killing. It makes the lower levels enjoyable. Exact opposite of EverQuest IMHO

- End of the Onyxia quest.
- Visiting places I remember from the first Warcraft games.
- attention to detail (easter eggs, animations, etc)
