Best of 2006 nominations: Friend, Enemy, Instance
I have to thank everybody for their nominations yesterday in our progressing Best of 2006 feature. All this week, we're asking for your nominations for our WoW Insider Best of 2006 awards-- this week we're getting your opinions, over the weekend, the trusty WoW Insider staff will crunch numbers and argue with each other, and next week, we'll announce the Best of 2006 in ten different categories throughout the World of Warcraft.Today, we're asking for your nominations in the categories of Friend of the Year, Enemy of the Year, and Instance of the Year. For Friend, we're talking about a Friendly *NPC* (we don't mean your real-life friends that play the game with you) of either faction that stood out to you in your travels around the world. Choose one NPC in the game this year that helped you out the most, or made you enjoy the game during their interaction. For Enemy, we're asking the opposite-- choose one mob in the game (raid boss or otherwise) that gave you the most grief, you had the most fun killing, or that just made you appreciate the game more.
And for Instance-- well, you can guess that one. Choose one Instance from the game that really shined for players this year, someplace you really enjoyed running or couldn't wait to go get loot from. It doesn't have to have been introduced this year, but if one of the new instances is a place you spent a lot of time this year, feel free to nominate that.
Again, just place your nominations for these three in the comments below, and we'll take care of the rest. Keep checking back every day this week for more nominations posts (we've got a few more categories to go through, including one where we recognize the Worst of something), and then come by all next week to see what we eventually choose as the Best of 2006 in the World of Warcraft.

For best NPC, I nominate the Black Bride in front of the Horde AV portal. Because her quote is just sick.
"Go, ! Into Arathi Basin! Slay, slay, slay them ALL! Go!"
For best Enemy, I nominate Son of Arugal. What Hordie doesn't go out of their ways to kill these if they're ever in Silverpine for some reason? Revenge, I tell you, for all the grief those bastards gave us as lowbies!
For best Instance, it was and still is and forever will be Shadowfang Keep.

Best friendly NPC: Bolvar Fordragon (the guy in SW keep). He fights, so you don't have to.
Best enemy: Hogger. Don't lie, you think so too.
Best instance: I'll have to go with Naxxramas. I've never been there myself, but people can't stop raving about it for some reason.
Wasyl Dec 14th 2006 2:14PM
Best Friend: Lieutenant Andorov from AQ20, AKA The Shirtless Wonder.
The line he yells when you start the Rajaxx fight is great, and he's wearing no shirt!
Larawen Dec 14th 2006 1:01PM
Best Friend: Stalvan from the Legend of Stalvan quest line.
Best Enemy: Herod "Blades of Light!"
Best Instance: VC still tops the list for me even though I've run it a million plus times.

Best Friend = Shawn fishing off the pier in Red Ridge
Best Enemy = Ony, you just can't keep that dragon down. Every time she rez she just gets beat down again.
Best Instance = Scarlet Monastery, cause you know you're still running your lowbie friends through it over and over again.
Shat Dec 14th 2006 1:15PM
Friend: Linken
Enemy: The Lost Vikings in Uldaman. a great throwback.
Instance: Maraudon. Because you'll never make the mistake of doing a full run ever again.
Thunkon Dec 14th 2006 1:43PM
Friend: Marshall Windsor, who doesn't like an idiot who wont take you up on your offer to escape the dungeon until you've rescued him and slaughtered the place 4 times?
Enemy: Whoever keeps Rezzing Ony!
Instance: Stockades. Gotta love an instance that you have quests in but doesn't drop anything good - ever.
Trout Dec 14th 2006 1:38PM
Best Enemy: Mor' Ladin in Raven Hill Cemetery
He appears from nowhere and just destroys you. Now with a couple of level 60's, everytime I pass Raven Hill I slip to to kill him just to even the score -- and I am still behind.
Best Instance: The best in my opinion is Zul'Gurub. a wide range of tactics required, good drops, nice scenery, a long sweet story line and completeable in 4 hours. I sure hope the BC brings us more instances like Zul'Gurub.
Trout
Feathermoon Server
Order of the White Tower
Owner/Operator of Trout's Fishing School
& Guide Services.

Best Friend: Varimithras. He loves you, but doesn't show it...whatsoever
Best Enemy: Razorgore. He's broken so many guilds apart, it's crazy!
Best Instance: I'm going to have to go with the Ruins of Ahn'Quiraj. It's the most unique dungeons that Blizzard has thought up, and its challenging features make it one of the most fun dungeons in the game!
Ryan Dec 14th 2006 2:06PM
Friend: The tauren at the very beginning of Wailing Caverns... I mean seriously, how many other druids do you know of that just give you MoW without having to be asked? This guy's a pimp.
Enemy: The Booty Bay bruisers... they are so hard to get away from and their bullets make you fly through the air...
Instance: Naxx... Blizzard finally used some creativity and didn't use a dragon for every boss.
Tim Engelbart Dec 14th 2006 4:19PM
Best Friend: Defias Traitor. He looks mean, he belongs to a dangerous clan... but he's nice to you and all and even gives you some XP if you finish the quest with him.
Best Enemy: It's so tempting to say Hogger, but I'll go with Mr. Smite. NOW YOU'RE MAKING ME ANGRY
Best Instance: Blackfathom Deeps. It takes quite some time to assemble a party for this instance, but when you've got one.. you're in for an adventure with some pretty steaming battles, including tons of voidwalkers, turtles and Tauren.
Jake Dec 14th 2006 3:33PM
Friend: Worg Pup (1k Needles Horde Town) Cuz hes so cute and doesnt attack :)
Enemy: Gadgetzan Bruisers. Best place to gank and PVP, but them bruisers ruin the fun.
Instance: Zul'Gurub. I love the bosses, scenery, and overall tactics/gameplay you experience... I always love to go and Id rather have another instance like it :)
Willferal Dec 14th 2006 3:56PM
I just have a nomination for enemy of the year: Mr. Bigglesworth. I just liked hearing Kel'thuzad scream.
"No!!! A curse upon you, interlopers! The armies of the Lich King will hunt you down. You will not escape your fate..."
Scy Dec 14th 2006 4:02PM
Friend: Haleh. Who doesn't love fighting a bunch of elite dragonkin in the freezing cold, only to end up getting punted all the way from Winterspring to WPL?
Enemy: General Drakkisath. Hands down the stingiest boss in all of Azeroth. How many of you spent months in UBRS to get your DS1 chest?
Instance: Stratholme. Just when you thought it was safe to take a bio break... "The living are here!"
Gunn Dec 14th 2006 4:23PM
Friend:
Enemy: Vaelzstraz
Instance: Naxx, I've been in all instances, but for pure fun and fluidity (when people know the instance) I think it wins hands down.
Sava Dec 14th 2006 4:55PM
Friend: Menara Voidrender; that woman sent me all around Azeroth, but man it was worth it for the Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe. That robe lasted me forever.
Eneme: Drek; Killed me more than any enemy in the game since good tanks in AV are hard to come by
Instance: SM Cathedral
Kazzaam Dec 14th 2006 5:46PM
Friend: any goblin. "What up? Time is money, friend!" They always make me laugh.
Enemey: Princess the pig. Gave me so much trouble with her gang of piggies, I had to recruit a level 60 for help.
Instance: Blackfathom Deeps. It's a long journey, but it feels like an adventure.
Thijz Dec 15th 2006 3:56AM
