Breakfast Topic: You didn't know that?
This past April, I had been playing World of Warcraft for one and a half years. I had all the latest add-ons, knew the math behind all the stats for my characters, participated in plenty of online discussions, was an officer in a BWL guild and was basically a WoW dork to the extreme. Then on one April afternoon I was playing WoW at my friends house and went to loot a corpse. I right clicked on the corpse, the window popped up, and I clicked on the silver and cloth, then moved onto the next mob.My friend looked at me like I was a moron, and asked..."Um, don't you shift-click?". I said no. He laughed. Then he told me that when you loot a mob, if you hold down the shift key, you will auto-loot and save yourself a little time. And I have been shift-clicking ever since. And to this day I don't know how I played for 18 months with that little bit of information alluding me.
What about you guys? Anything in World of Warcraft that you discovered way, way after you should have?

As my first character, I rolled a Gnome Warlock and, over time, got him to 60.
Even though it was my first character, I thought of myself as a player with reasonable knowledge - I had a real-life friend who was the Guild Master for a fairly large guild on our server, so got lots of advice. When it came to me doing MC and such, I had the same, if not more, knowledge compared other people there (and these are all people who re-rolled from other servers).
So, anyway, after being 60 for a month or something, one day I was looking through my spell book for some reason, and I came across "Escape Artist".
I was like "wtf is this?" - read the description and thought ".... since when has this been here?!?".
When I had first started playing, I thought basically everything on that first page in the spell book was just passive racial abilities, like +15 to Engineering, which you couldn't interact with - I had never thought there would be something I could actually use...
Needless to say, I'm glad they have changed all this with the 2.0.1 patch and put these racial abilities in your spell bar when you start a new character, so other idiots such as myself don't have the same problem.

When I first started playing WoW, long long ago, I didn't know that NumLock would force you to keep running. So up through level 40ish I was running around EVERYWHERE holding down the arrow keys. My guild-mates got a kick out of that one.

haha. I did that for a while, but not nearly as long as you :).
From what i read (when i figured this out myself), this wasn't implemented at release. It was an addon that was later implemented directly into the game (and as with all addons that share similar fate, blizz gave no credit where credit was due - at least not that i've ever seen).

I've been playing for quite a while and I was only recently told that pretty much every item in the game is part of its own outfit or set, whether completing it provides benefits or not.

Like the "shift-click?" i discover very late something similar. if you hold down the shift key, you will auto-loot, that's ok, but U can do it with your profession.
U can skin with shit-click (the skin goes directly into your bag), you can also gather herbs like that, even desenchanting :D

It was quite some time before I found the auto run button... Until that day I was quite proud of my "hack" of sticking a matchstick into the keyboard to force the W key down during those long Barrens runs.

With 2.0.1, you can now make auto-loot on by default, without the need for the shi(f)t key.

Now a friend of mine has been playing for a while. He has a 60 druid in a raiding guild, a hunter around 40, and at least six other alts at varying levels.
He's over, I'm soloing with my main (level 50 Mage at the time) - and I stop to eat and drink before going after the next mob.
"You can do that?!"
"...do what?"
"Eat and drink at the same time?"
"Yeah..."
"Awesome! That's useful!"

My mate, who has been playing WoW as long as me is over my house and he's watching me play as my Warrior. Some time passes and I notice he looks a little confused. After a while I get a bit annoyed and say:
'What's up?'
'Where's your attack button?'
'My what?'
'Your attack button. You know, the one that starts in slot one of your action bar. Where is it?'
'I don't use it...'
'How do you attack things then?'
'I just right click on them...'
'You can do that?!?'
This is my mate who has 3 level 60 characters :D

I spent my first 30 levels without a minimap up there in the upper right. I apparently had closed it on the first day and never worked out that you could open it up if you hit the X. But I had ironforge MEMORIZED, let me tell you.

heh, for me it was the Need before Greed system of looting, before the die and the coin came out. Whenever I'd lead a group, I would just tell them to roll if they needed it, then one random person in an Upper Blackrock Spire group said, "Hey, you know you can set the looting to Need before Greed, right?"
I had been playing for over a year before I found that out, haha. I was ashamed that I didn't find that out sooner >.

#9 Yeah, I recently saw that "Eating and Drinking may be conducted simultaneously" thing as one of the online tips.

I found out yesterday that you can shift-click questgivers who have repeatable quests and keep doing them. :D
Camaris Dec 14th 2006 9:32AM
Not me, but a guildie druid only recently discovered that he actually had a Teleport:Moonglade spell in his spellbook.
Although I did get a "Discovered:Lumber Mill" last week. I was never into PvP until this patch.

My first toon was a skinner/LW and it took me at least until the upper 100s in LW before I realized that you can Shift+click a vendor item and purchase more than one at a time. I had been right clicking 10x to get thread.... DOH!

Im in a raiding guild, and before they put the raidinfo button in the raid window I used to get loads of asks "how long till Ony reset?"…"Is ZG reset yet".
One day I said in Gchat that you guys can find out yourself with /raidinfo.
I was amazed how many had never heard of the command considering these people were raiding MC/ZG and onyxia every week for the previous 6 months.
P.S. you can mine with shift also.
