Lesser Known Quests: Tooga
I'm classifying this quest as lesser-known, as I have just finally come across it after 2 1/2 years and 5 level 60's. Yes, you may call me ignorant and tell me I'm not paying attention in the comments.Tooga is a giant tortoise who's lost and roaming somewhere in southern Tanaris. I found him just south of the Thistleshrub Valley, wandering aimlessly in search of dinner for his wife.
As far as escort quests go, Tooga's Quest is remarkably simple and rewarding. Instead of chasing across the desert like some other quest I know, Tooga is actually quite happy to follow you, giving you a 30-minute timer to take him to the coast just south of Steamwheedle Port.
Given that Tooga will actually help you in combat, it's a bit like you get a level 50 turtle pet for 30 minutes who then hands over the experience and loot.
I won't give away the entire dialog here, but let's just say that even though you get 5900xp and your choice of great shaman bracers or a druid ring, you almost feel bad for Tooga as his wife Torta treats the poor fella like a baby treats a diaper.
If you're out and about in Tanaris, take some time to lead Tooga to the shore, killing mobs along the way. You could run straight to the shore in 10 minutes, but take the time with this pet - he makes for a good tank.
If you've done this quest, let us know of your experience with it, and if you used Tooga as a combat pet or just ran him straight home.

I've done this quest with my feral druid (who loves the ring!) and my shadow priestess. Actually twice with the priestess, because we did the quest with 3 people at once and the guy that Tooga followed was half asleep and just went going on while we others fought the foes - so that Tooga was out of range, and only he finished the quest while we other two got a "failed" message.
Both times we went as straight as possible to the port. The second time, I was really looking forward to the others reaction to the dialogue of Tooga and Torta (his wife) because they didn't know the quest. Hilarious to have them on teamspeak :-)
So my experience was mixed. When we managed the quest it was fairly rewarding and fun, but when an attempt fails you normally don't feel like running through the damn desert another 2 times to finish again...

Actually, I did this quest this afternoon. As a druid, use prowl and take your time. I only drew 2-3 mobs. Easy xp. Thistleshrub Valley is a great grind area too.

Tortuga is the Spanish word for turtle. Not just the island in Pirates. Not really an easter egg, per se.

When I did this quest, he was very bloodthirsty, charging any enemies with ferocious intent. About halfway to the shore, we ran across someone doing the chicken escort. Tooga wouldn't stop following that chicken! In the end, both quests ended well, with enough excitement and exp for all. I still wonder what the other guy thought, though...

I did this while I had my pet turtle Turkle following, so it was awesome running around with two turtles, defending me

I was with some buddies down near the thistleshrubs when we stumbled across the ol' turtle. "Hey!", I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be great to start an escort quest with a *TURTLE* that wants to cross a nasty horde-infested zone?! SIGN ME UP!"
Actually, it was my guildmates who were excited about the quest, and I had to work hard to talk them out of it. We had several other quests to work on that were far more straight-forward.
I guess some quiet mid-week morning I'll try it out, just to hear the end of the story. :-)

Hey, Druid ring my S... 120 armor is good for any clothie, and witout a doubt will be the largest AC item you will be wearing until near-60. A ring. Couple this with the ring from Archaedas and you will have 170 AC on your hands alone (more than robe+pants+bracers).
Yay for weird itemization!

All Druids should know about this quest since it is one of the few armor rings in the game until you start raiding.

This is by far one of my absolute favorite quests in the game and I think the *only* escort quest I enjoy. I love Tooga and it's actually a little sad when I finally have to bring him home!

The first and only time I did this quest, me and Tooga were walking together (I was about 75% of the way to the destination) and all of a sudden, he shoots left and starts running. He keeps running left. I try to follow him but he moves too fast. Eventually, I get the QUEST FAILED notification. A few seconds later, Tooga runs back to me. Thanks a lot you stupid turtle! Last time I'm ever trying to do that quest again. GRR

i came across this quest while working on the nogginfogger quest (getting the dew glands. just realize this is an escort quest that takes you from the NE side of the zone to the SW.. make sure you're done with your current quest.. or you'll waste about an hour of your time. definitely worth doing.

testing to see if my initial post posted (double post?)

You could mount up and chase him - he's slower than a mount but faster than a person running. Great quest though - did it twice the same night due to LOS issues. Highly recommend you do this if in Tanaris.
Another quest that hardly anyone does is the one in southern Azshara, on the coast. There's a band of shipwrecked sailors led by a female captain holed up behind a barricade. If you accept their quest you need to fend off assaults from Naga nearby, keeping the captain and someone else alive. Pretty neat but I wonder how Blizzard figures these side quests in the overall story line. I mean, does this crew ever get the chance to make it home?
