Tier 5 stats from the BC beta
It appears the vendor for the Tier 5 armor has appeared on the beta (like Naxx, Tier 5 will be distributed via a token system), and I gotta say it looks cool. I found all the pictures here (a few classes are still missing at the moment), but I've hosted them here as well in case that resource disappears for whatever reason: Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock. As a point of reference, I see a lot of** damage and healing* on one of the Priest sets (the Tier 3 set has +483), and that's not counting all the pluses to spell crits, hits, and so on (not to mention filled jewel sockets, of which none of these currently have). The set bonuses are nice as well-- particularly the Hunter's, where only a two piece set bonus gives every pet attack a chance to heal the pet for a small amount. Finally, it looks like the sets are made up of only five pieces each, which means it'll be that much easier to get those bonuses in place (and combine them with other sets that may happen to show up).
So what do you think? I'm not blown away by the stats completely, but there's no question these are extremely nice upgrades, even from Tier 3. And I still think that the Warlock, Mage, and Rogue sets look freakin' sweet.
*Update: Druid dude insightfully points out what I missed: the Priest bonus is for damage and healing, not just healing. I might take back what I said about not being blown away-- that's awesome.
**Update2: My math skills FTL. For specific numbers on how the new sets' +dmg and +healing compare to old sets, see the comments below.

Interesting that the Priest set is +damage and healing instead of just +healing, and that the set bonuses are for DPS instead of healing.

Wow I'm really digging the Cleric tier 4. Tier 4 looks great if your a HealBot/Holyspec sorry ret pallys.

There are two 5 piece priest sets there. One is a +dmg/healing that gives a total of 189. Compare this to +169 for the 6 piece epic PVP set, or +138 for the 5 piece AQ set.
The healing set gives +342 Healing and 20mp/5, which you can compare to +483 and 23mp/5 for 9 pieces of Tier 3.

I don't understand. Where do you get +534 from, I counted +531 between both priest sets: +189 damage/healing for the 5 piece Regailia (shadow/disc) set, and +342 healing for the 5 piece Raiment (holy/disc) set. The sets are the same 5 pieces, you can't wear them together.

For those paladins who want more than just the healer set stats, go to http://paladinsucks.blogspot.com/2006/12/tier-5-sets.html for the stats of each set. ^^

Anyone else notice a distinct drop in extra stuff such as crit/hit on hunter gear? I love the sockets, but to have a piece of armor that is sub-par unless you throw the best jewels you can buy/scrape up into it makes little sense to me. I thought the sockets were there to augment the gear, not to bring it up to par for items of its level.

no word on the druid sets yet?

So, do the sets for the different specs all look the same? Since there was only one screen of the Priest, but it listed two sets, I can only assume yes.

The Hunter set looks .... interesting. Nice tights, boys. And I didn't get a picture of the Paladin, but I hear it looks ridiculous.
Priest and Warlock look cool. Mage...sexy as always.
The Mage bonuses are pretty sweet, too. +70 after crits is nothing to sneeze at. As a frost Mage, I crit like crazy.

The only thing that comes to my mind when I see that T5 Rogue set:
Omfg.. How did Blizzard manage to get fire so may talented Designers at once that they are really presenting that thing as a T5 set.
Sorry, T2 looked really great, T2.5 had charm, T3 sucks completely (those shoulders really don't look good) and now they're trying to turn my nightelf into some kind of Transformer? Sorry..
Some T2 really looked awful, others really great. Why didn't they just follow the design philosophy that made them make good T2 sets?
Look, ppl love that T3 Warri set. Go .. more of that (ok, those lava shoulders look equal).
Ppl loved t2 pala? go.. more books, more plate robes!
greetings Tig

What's up with the Rogue shoulderpads? They look horrible.

For #6: It seems the sockets cost some of the item points for an item. You come out better off in the end though, as the sockets are cheap for what you get from the gems.

Just a quick comment about the enhance shaman set:
bad: we don't want +spell damage. We do shocks and LHW, which get less than half of the full bonus.
good: 4 piece bonus: every one in a while, instant LHW. OMG.
thingy Dec 14th 2006 3:05PM
I have a hunter (main) and a priest (alt). I love both of their sets. Can't wait for TBC to come out now. :D The biggest problem will be that I'll want both sets for my priest.
Kaziel Dec 14th 2006 3:11PM
Kugala: You're absolutely right about that. In fact, to a degree I think sockets are even better than straight stats, since you can tailor it to your playstyle. For example, on my mage, I place a strong emphasis on spell crits, due to many mage talents giving benefits to and from crits. On the other hand, I have some mage friends who believe +damage is the end all be all. They can load up on +damage gems and be happy as a pig in mud.

@4 >Wow I'm really digging the Cleric tier 4. Tier 4 looks great if your a HealBot/Holyspec sorry ret pallys. <
Dont be. There is also a tanking version and a DPS version.
Argent Dec 14th 2006 9:16PM
the tier 4 holy paladin set is pretty meh, imo. it's a weaksauce remix of redemption (T3) gear. whereas the T5 holy set is pretty sweet indeed!
T5 prot/tanking set is all sorts of cool, too.
for ret, i'd prefer the setbonuses the T4 set gives, but the T5 set is undoubtedly better for raiding ret.

I hate how Tier 5 totally gimps rogues on agility. Where the heck is all the agility? I mean, it's only a 5-piece set instead of an 8-piece set, even then 2 of the 5 pieces have NO agility. For everyone else in the article above, you better believe every piece has stam, int, spirit (except locks and pallies), +dmg/healing, and +crit or +hit. So why do the rogues get gimped?
