Walkthrough: Sprite darter hatchling
Every guild meeting, I get comments on this pretty little dragonling. Some of you may know how to get it already, but if my guild is anything to go on, a lot of you don't. Like the last item I posted, this one's Alliance-only (sorry, Horde fans, but Alliance is what I play). It's a non-combat pet, like cats and mechanical squirrels, so all it does is flap around and look like something the art team did when they were tripping, but I like it anyway. It's not exactly hard to get per se, but it does require quite a bit of legwork. It all starts in my favorite zone, Feralas...Before we begin, though, a couple steps of preparation will save a world of pain. First, get ahold of two (2) Elixirs of Fortitude. Second, set your hearthstone to Aerie Point in the Hinterlands, or at least make sure you get the flight point if you don't want to change your HS. OK! Let's get started.
Right from the get-go, this quest line is a bit obscure, because it starts at an NPC most people never even see: Kindal Moonweaver. She's right around 66,46 in Feralas, overlooking and a bit west of the Grimtotem Compound around the middle of the map. Once you find her, she gives you the level 47 quest Freedom for All Creatures. It seems that she's keen on the dragons, and doesn't like how the Tauren have captured them and locked them up in a cage. She wants you to go open the cage towards the west edge of the Grimtotem Compound, and furthermore make sure at least 6 of them survive. It's much easier to do this if you clear the area around the cage first.
After you've finished that, Kindal's sister, Jer'kai Moonweaver, wants you to go pwn some Taurens (Doling Justice). This one's your garden variety kill-10-rats quest. Do it, climb back up to Jer'kai, and get the follow-up, Doling Justice, which sends you to Darnassus. Happy fun times on the griffin! Now when you go to Darnassus and turn the quest in at the Temple of the Moon, it looks like the quest line ends there, since there's no follow-up from Darn. But we know better, right? Now fly back to Feralas and find the Moonweavers again.
It looks like you did some good saving those dragons, because now Kindral wants you to take an unhatched egg to...Thousand Needles (An Orphan Looking For a Home). More griffin excellence! Go to Quentin at the Shimmering Flats race track. He'll take your egg, and then he'll ask you (A Short Incubation) for those Elixirs of Fortitude (you do have them, right? right?). Next, he sends you to Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands (The Newest Member of the Family), which is almost as far as you could possibly get from Thousand Needles. To make matters more interesting, you only have an hour to get there. Hearth if you set your HS there, or else take boats/griffins as necessary.
Once you get to Aerie Peak, you're looking for an Agnar Beastamer; he's in the bottom of Wildhammer Keep. He takes your egg, and proclaims that it needs nourishment (Food for Baby). And what do baby sprite darters eat? Silvermane Stalker Flanks. What else would they eat? Silvermane Stalkers wander all around the east half of the Hinterlands. As the name suggests, they stealth, so use Perception or Paranoia if it's available to you. Kill up some wolves; when you've got the quest done, go back to Mr. Beastamer for the final leg of this epic quest chain (seriously, I think the Onyxia key chain is shorter): Becoming a Parent. You hand over the meat, he hands over the dragon egg, and it's all finished! Congratulations on your new pet. Wasn't that fun? Now you have one less inventory slot.
Have a favorite ridiculously long quest line and/or non-combat pet? Let me know in the comments.

For anyone leveling through the 45 - 50 range, this quest line gives a fair amount of XP when complete. So it was worthwhile for me when I was bored one afternoon and didn't want to spend any time grinding mobs...
Plus I like having a sprite darter on my hunter who also has a wind serpent. :D

I am indeed enjoying these walkthroughs- they take away the pain of foraging through Thottbot's posts, which is always a big plus.
Kudos on a very helpful article.

can you/someone enlighten the horde side about some interesting quests/quest rewards?

My first 60 was a Night Elf Druid. I had to search out this quest when I saw a handful of people with this pet. It was fairly simple at 60, even for my resto spec.
Now I'm on a PvP server and playing a Troll Shaman. I want a Sprite Darter, damnit!!!
And while you're at it, Blizz, I want to be able to gain faction with the Wintersaber trainers so I can get a Wintersaber mount too!

One of the writers for WoW Insider that plays Horde needs to start doing things like this! Or at least start doing these walkthroughs for quests both factions can do
Stop leaving at least half of your readers out

Chillax, Horde bredren.. This is the first such walkthrough I even recall seeing.. it's not like a pattern or anything.. Just remember, there has to be -some- downside to playing Horde. I mean, at the end of the day, we get to kill gnomes, AND there's all the other stuff too.. Juuuust chilllll, dudes.

Thanks for this. I'd done the first part of this quest, all the way up to visiting Darnassus. But since there was no apparent continuation, I figured I must have done something wrong and wouldn't get my lovely Sprite Darter.
But thanks to you, I was able to pound out the rest of the chain tonight. Thanks!

Who do you talk to to set your HS to AP?

Inkeeper Thulfram (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=7744) can be found wandering around one of the floors of Wildhammer Keep. I always get a bit lost in that building, so what I usually do is "/tar innk", get in a group, and put a raid mark on his head. You can see raid marks through walls, so that helps a lot.

A few of us at Narcoleptic Insomniacs on Silvermoon got tired of going back and forth between quests and put together this great series of quests to help you get the most efficient use of your time.
It is posted on WorldofWarcraft.com quest forum:
