Breakfast Topic: I quit!
I've noticed an astonishing number of players on the forums claiming, at least, to be ending their relationship with the World of Warcraft that we all know and love. Complaints are all over the map -- warlocks are overpowered, warriors are underpowered, fear needs to be nerfed, too much lag, too much downtime, too few world events... Indeed, everyone has their beef with the game, but with the recent patch throwing a lot of things up in th are, a number of players seem to think it's just not worth coming back. But what about you? You're reading a game-related blog, which hints that you're still in the game. Do you see the game's last straw somewhere in the immediate future, or are all of these quitting announcements dramatic nonsense?Filed under: Breakfast Topics, Features

Any person quitting because a certain class is either overpowered or underpowered is either simply looking for an excuse or just flat out has a burning desire to be a drama queen.
Warlocks overpowered? Deal with it. Who was overpowered before 2.0? Mage? You dealt with them back then didn't you?
Warriors underpowered? LRN2PLY. Warriors are just fine, it's usually the Warrior who spec D/W Fury and rocking Valor set who are the ones crying about Warriors being "underpowered". Cry about it some more, if you've been a Warrior long you'll know that EVERY patch Warriors take a hit nerf bat. It's just the good ones that learn to adapt to those nerfs, the bads ones fizzle out.
There are several class options in the game, if you think one is overpowered either learn to combat it or roll it yourself. If you think a class is underpowered, learn to adapt or roll another class.
Simple, stop the crying. Stop the whining and play the game.

I will stick around WoW for a little while longer. My friends are playing WoW, so I play WoW. I am no longer excited about WoW. It really needs something more than PvP, faction grinding, and raiding.
The expansion will be nice for a little while, but it is nothing revolutionary. I am glad I didnt play beta because I would be bored whent he expansion came out.
Based on Blizzards track record so far I wouldnt expect another expansion for quite some time and that will be the reason I leave. I dont want to be sutck in a faction grind and forced to raid nonstop again just to progress or have something to do. I truely hope they can find a good balance for the end game at level 70.
I plan on giving WoW 6-8 months after the expansion and then moving on to another MMO such as LOTR. However, if my friends would all decide to quit tomorrow I wouldnt be sad :)
Last thing is I think Blizzard has taken their success and are developing into the arrogant and contemptful developers that is a common trait of SOE.

Not enough world events...

If I ever had reason to leave WoW, it would be because of time constraints, lack of funds, or a real need to take a break from the game for a while.
There's so much to do... when you've just started this in march, but still. On the other hand, there could just likely be too much for some people.
I still like the game and all, but you still gotta remember that that's all it is; a game.

Same old shit. Really, that sounds harsh, but it's true. Every MMO I've ever played (Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, Shadowbane, Guild Wars, Wow, and a cpl others) there are always tons of people screaming about how they're going to quit.
You know what I've learned? The ones that scream about how they going to quit never do. It's the ones that just vanish that truely quit the game.
As well, this is mostly an impression you get from the Wow forums. From my experience from the wow forums, you should not take anything there seriously. All the people who like the game are too busy playing it to spend all day complaining on the forums, so most of the time the people you find posting there are just the immature, frustrated or angry players.

I'm still going strong, although I just hit 60 with my "main" after playing the game since the first day of retail (well, beta, but that doesn't count). I've finally found a playstyle that works for me, balanced around three or four characters I'm leveling, rather than focusing on one exclusively.
Also, to all of the people who claim that WoW has no hold on their life... you're posting comments on a blog that obsesses over all things Warcraft. This is a great site, with lots of useful information, but still. You cancelled your account, you don't play any more, and you're still here keeping up with the latest and greatest. Hmmm.

In response to #11, your logic can be applied the other way around too. Although, I suppose nerfing one class is alot easier than figuring out how to buff everyone else. I'll give you that. Obviously since I play the class that everyone else would love to see become an easy HK, my opinion will differ.

I cancelled my account on Wednesday. Reason I'm still reading this site, ironically, is to see if there was any mention of all the people saying about quitting.
I've cancelled my account. My wife, who was far more hardcore than me, cancelled her account today as well. For us the honor nerf was the final straw, but speaking for myself, this has been coming for a while. The bigger reason for quitting is the fact that nothing ever happens in the world. Every day is the same. Blizz claim, when you choose content as the reason for cancelling, that the world is ever changing. That's a total crock.
I have no time for people who complain and keep paying, or even worse say they're going to quit, but don't. Have some balls and actually do it, or don't whine.
JayOKC Dec 18th 2006 11:31AM
All I hear here is a bunch of people whining because Blizzard changed their game and a select few didn't like it. If you don't like it, then quit, nobody cares, especially Blizzard, seeing as they rake in $90.5 million/month from subscription costs alone.

like Obsidian said in #6, Guild vs. Guild battles and raids wouldmake the game much more interesting and exciting. I've only been playing WoW for about 5 months now, before that i was into City of Villains, but that game is deff very repetative so i decided to heed my friends advice and try out WoW, and i was definately pleased with that decision, but the one thing from CoV i did like was the raids on the "guild" bases, and the "guild" bases themselves in that game.
Some ppl may think that having a guild base would make the game seem like work, but what i hear from all these raiding guilds especially, it sounds like they treat the game as a second job anyways. but a guild base/hall with a guild bank could be more fun than work, ias a meeting spot for raids, and instead of the same old BG's, u battle entire guilds, either at their hall or urs, defending or trying to capture something of importance or power.
Basically it could be a way to try to spice things up a little for the players bored of the current content, but overall, im not going to quit WoW as of now b/c it is definately the best game of its genre around at the moment.

I can understand why people get bored with the game. It can get monotonous at times. But once you reach level 50, I feel like the game opens up to a whole new thing.
Suddenly the road to 60 is much shorter and the game generally becomes more fun. It's even better at 60, when you get to finally raid and do instances with the friends you've developed through your journey to end-game.
And that's the thing - The game can't be fun if you're not playing it as a MMORPG. The whole point of an MMO is that you get to play with other players. (MM=Massively Multiplayer...)
#12, part of your boredom with the game might be precisely because you don't do instances and quests with other players besides your girlfriend. My boyfriend got me into the game, and we're in the same guild (which we love--and a good guild, though hard to find, is also VERY important to making the game awesome). We both have lvl 60 warlocks, and though we sometimes play together, we have a lot of fun playing individually and/or with our other guildies, too.
Jonathan Mead Dec 17th 2006 1:29AM
There's only one good end-game in all of gaming.
And that's the one in Chess.
Glod Dec 18th 2006 12:34PM
I just canceled my account yesterday, but I hadn't played WoW in weeks before that. I just burned out on it. Raiding had become too much of a job, and I wasn't getting enough out of the game to justify all the time I was putting into it. I'd left the guild I'd belonged to for over a year because of guild drama and a months-long stall on Battleguard Sartura of all things. I joined another guild that progressed at lighting speed through BWL only to stall just as badly on Skeram. At that point I found I was reluctant to even log on, so that was a pretty clear indication that it was time to quit.
Boonie Dec 17th 2006 9:08AM
All of the quitting announcements are by definition dramatic nonsense. No-one's making you play the game. You don't like it? Stop playing. World of Warcraft is just one computer game among many.
Dave Dec 17th 2006 10:22PM
I'll just quit when it's not fun anymore. Yea people have been quitting, but WOW has reached 8 mil subscribers anyway, so...
Jonathan Mead Dec 17th 2006 10:41PM
What I want to know is how many of those 8 million are active subscribers? What do they classify as a subscriber? Since my account will still be registered, despite quitting.
I love all the whinging on here from people who aren't quitting. It's like someone has insulted their honor or something with their reaction.
I agree that folk that stomp around the forums saying "I'm quitting" are idiots, but to heap scorn on anyone quitting... Well people like you are another good reason to quit the game.
Brendan Dec 18th 2006 11:22AM
I've been playing since open beta. I ran my own guild but never had enough members to really do any of the high end content. I still had a lot of fun. I recently moved from a PVE server to a PVP server and started up a new guild and have many more members. We're just gaining steam and are starting to roll instances. I admit that the changes they made to macros and UI is VERY frustrating. I can't even play my rogue on the PVE server anymore because my macros no longer work. I get too frustrated remembering how it used to be. All in all, I really do enjoy the changes.
Bartholemues Dec 18th 2006 11:37AM
I quit about a year ago, not because of any one thing in game, but simply because I didn't have the time for it once I reached 60. Upto level 60 and for a while at level 60 when you're doing new instances all the time the game is fun but after that it becomes a grind of the same content over and over, wether you're raiding or battlegounding this is boring (IMO).
Now I'm playing again, leveling a new toon, doing instances with guildees, and having a good time and I will continue to until I reach level 70 and finish the non-raid instances at which point unless something changes I will probably quit again. But I will still enjoy the experience as a whole and just stop when I don't enjoy it anymore. There's no ill feeling towards Blizzard at all, I really enjoy their game upto a point, they're just catering to a different kind of person to me after level 70.
The one thing I have found that I dislike is that although people say the game is constantly changing, this is in fact not the case for the part of the game that the majority of people play. When leveling up a new toon after the first few levels it's always the same zones, the same quests, etc. I would love it if Blizzard would focus a bit more on evolving the leveling game rather then just the raiding grind.
People who say the game begins at 60 and get all wound up about these changes need to have their head examined imo. It's like saying life begins when you get a job... kids might think this sounds cool but most adults are wiser ;)
As for all those people saying 'I QUIT!!!!1!!!' like it's supposed to impress us or mean something, they are taking themselves and WoW far to seriously.
Shakina Dec 26th 2006 11:28AM
What kind of question is this in a forum based on WoW? For all of you who have answered, "I quit," or "I'm on a break," yada yada yada... Why the hell are you trolling a WoW forum them?
No, people aren't quitting, the queues are as big as ever on many servers and people still love the game. I can understand that some people are upset about the warrior being nerfed while other classes were buffed. And, I do think that Blizzard will fix that soon, as it has laid a dramatic effect to the game and groups abilities to actually accomplish raids and quests. However, I don't think that those people are going to quit (this is a blanket statement of course).
As for those who scream, "nerf Warlocks," learn to beat them using a different strategy than you are used to using against mages or any other class. They are easy to beat, you just need to work it out. I used to play my pally and always heard people say that Locks were kings of PvP. I admit to being (narrowly) beaten the first 1v1 encounter with a Lock. Then, I learned ways to counter their big hits and to work around stopping them from fearing me. Use your stuns. Use scatter shot. Use shield bash...There are plenty of ways to beat them, you just need to use your head and don't play them the same way you do every other class. Just wait until Alliance has to play against a Palidan or Horde against a Shaman. I want to sit back and watch the Nerf Forums fly!
Until then, stop screaming about quitting and just play the game.

The new patch really turned me off of World of Warcraft. Playing as a 60 mage and a 60 warrior I saw that it was almost pointless to pvp anymore. If I was on my warrior the locks and just about every other class were pwning me over. I decided to try my mage out for pvp and saw the same results. The water elemental, hah what a joke of a talent and Dragon's Breath?!? cmon... that is pointless for a mage! I take pride in being able to keep range from most melee classes, but for Dragon's Breath you need to run up to the player and hope he doesnt stun you. Blizzard needs to rethink the hunter talents. I dont mean to complain too much, but I believe it to be just about impossible to beat a hunter now. You get in their dead zone they Scatter shot you, you get far away and start to cast any spell and they silence you. CMON Blizz!!!
