Breakfast Club: We love guilds
.jpg)
After an entire year of Breakfast topic posts, thousands of comments and some spirited conversations, we thought it would be a good idea to round up the best of the best Breakfast Topics for your perusal this week as you pretend to work and watch the clock.
While there has been no shortage of interesting subjects and comments, my favorite Breakfast Topics usually revolve around the social aspects of WoW. And what brings us all together with a group of like minded folks? Guilds!
- Guild names are sometimes a point of pride, sometimes aim to make a statement, and are sometimes just funny. This Breakfast Topic brought the more amusing guild names of the year to the forefront. Some of my favorites from the comments include: Newb Orc Gankees, Holy Gnoman Empire and Sez Pull My Finger.
- And when guilds aren't going for a funny name, or a creative name, they go for the always popular generic, over-used name. Heroes of the Alliance? Knights of the Alliance? Champions of the Horde? Hmmm...they really went out of their way there, didn't they? I can't complain, as I was in Lethal Alliance for a good long while, and if that isn't generic, I don't know what is.
- Finally, when people aren't trying to name their guilds, they are thinking about joining one. How exactly does one go about doing that? Some of the comments from our readers really lay out some good strategies for finding the perfect home.

People join guilds for 3 purposes:
1) To get loot quickly
2) endgame requirement
3) loneliness, socialize

I run two guilds, both for fun:
Ninja Monkeys - Monkeys are cool. So are Ninjas. It just stands to reason. (Alliance Guild)
Undead Ate My Neighbours. (Alliance Guild).
I'm quite proud of those names - they both get lots of /w commenting on them (although these days, the Ninja Monkeys /w usually revolve around ' u r ninja, ur guild sez so, nubs!' and other pointless, stupid ones not worth mentioning, since 'ninja' has since become a derogatory term for someone who steals loot in dungeon runs. Shame.
OH NOES! UNDEAD ATE MY NEIGHBOURS! ;)

My two real guild experiences ended in drama.
One was a smallish social guild and the leader /gdisband'd on a pissy whim one day because no one took the guild as seriously as she did, or something.
The second time I left because repeated Nefarion wipes led to whining, arguing, leadership conflicts, prick-waving, and forum drama.
I'd consider going back to one when BC hits and it doesn't take 60-80 members to have enough people to consistently field a raid.
Oh, and the best guild name in memory that wasn't mentioned in the other post was < and Her Amazing Friends > on Scarlet Crusade.

My fiancee and started a guild to be the anti-guild guild, The Bouncing Bunny Brigade. We found that guilds:
1. Take themselves *way* to seriously.
2. Seem to have more teens and than adults. Which means we need to keep our chat to pg-13.
So we have a loose age requirement and 3 questions for people to answer. The questions just gives us an idea how sick, twisted and perverted they are. The more sick twisted and perverted the better.

I still stand by our former guild name as the best name ever.

We had a long list of names when we started our guild on Greymane. We ended up with
As a joke our GM called us at first and made our tabard pink with a white butterfly on it.

Luckily, that only lasted 2 weeks.

Ok. I'm a newb. The names I typed in my first post didn't show up for obvious reasons.
Original guild name was "Pretty Pwnies"
Now it's "Runs With Scissors"

Best guild was the one we had at work-- Order of the Squid.
Why?
Work is the USS Essex, LHD-2 -- the guild was all sailors. *grin*
I rather like Gnomish Marine Corps.

Crimson Alliance FTW!
Were doing alot of pvp right now over a samll X-mas break for raiding. Our guild was on BLW but weve lost alot of members whove used the guild as a ladder to get in Fallout, the best guild on our server so were stuck in MC currently.

I had a guild on the server Eldre'Thalas but it was disbanded due to lack of people joining. It's name was Gnomeland Security. I thought it was a cool name but meh...
Grontar Dec 18th 2006 8:42PM
Our Guild name grew out of our Star Trek club's name, teh USS Justice. Also, since we've been doing PVP mainly where they Allys are attacking, we went with the Irregulars in homage to the militia troops that were not regular soldiers. Hence, the Justice Irregulars.
