Reputation no longer diminished by level
Lane points out something interesting that I hadn't yet noticed after 2.0: faction reputation via quest is not subject to level any more. It's true. I just loaded up my 55 night elf hunter, ran a quest in Northshire Abbey, and sure enough, 20 seconds of killing kobolds got me 250 rep for Stormwind. Most players trying to grind reputation for another racial faction (usually for the mounts, but most vendors will also give a small discount for higher rep) were limited to grinding around for tons and tons of runecloth, but it appears that doing lowbie quests will now grant just as much, if not way more, reputation. You won't be able to see the "!" or earn XP for them (if you're doing quests way below your level, that is), but the rep is there and plentiful-- just talk to the questgiver.
I've never heard of this, so there's a chance that Blizzard hasn't as well, and that this is just a bug waiting to be fixed. But for now, if you've been waiting to grind up reputation for a mount, just head back to the starting area of your choice, and have at it.

What mobs should I kill for Darnassus rep?
Tris Dec 20th 2006 9:39AM
Shhhh, don't go announcing it. I'm sure they are all over the boards, but I can't check from work. Besides... thinking update tomorrow= no more rep from easy quests with my luck.

I'm pretty sure this is intended. One of the CMs mentioned a while ago that they didn't want Rep to be as much of a grind (still a grind, of course, but not too much so).
This, coupled with how rep has been increased for a number of things (if memory serves Runecloth gives more rep, various RRQ quests [i.e. scourgestones] give more rep, and so on), makes me think it is permanent.

I can't imagine why they'd let reputation gain be consistent across all levels, but perhaps it's in anticipation of the expansion (=a lot of reputation to grind, and only 10 levels and 7 zones to do it in).
But this raises the question as to why they did it for Azeroth as well. Perhaps they felt the "major city" reputation grind was too steep for newcomers to the game? I'm hoping it's not a bug- this'll make grinding all the more enjoyable (...marginally so).
@#1. None.

For rep. I just grind AV collecting turn ins (armor scraps, the various medals, etc.). After you're exalted with AV, you get IF rep. And after your exalted with IF, you get straight alliance rep. (including the Draenai). I assume the same is true with the Horde favtions, though I haven't confirmed it yet. I got to exalted with SW in no time (I'm human), am 3/4 of the way through revered with Darnassus and Gnomeragan, and am already well into honored with the Draenai. That elephant mount is gonna be mine by Burning Cruasade time!

Stupid ally stop playing easy mode.

Man, I post hundreds of times talking about how I play Horde and how I love my shaman and how I'm Horde ftw, over and over again.
But you post one piece about how you have a night elf hunter, and all of a sudden I'm a stupid ally.
I approve! I wouldn't expect anything less from a fellow Hordie. Blood and thunder!

The undead priest I'm leveling is almost level 40 now and I'm revered with Undercity already and a fair way through honoured for the other factions, which is way ahead of the other chars I've levelled.

Sweet! I'll get onto that tonight then.

Oh I sooo wish I'd have read this earlier when I was bored out of my skull because I couldn't find a group for Uldaman. Well I know what I'll be doing next time. ;-)

guildmate of mine hit exalted with exodar yesterday (he was in AV almost all the time...)

If you're not into the BGs - look at doing all the quests in that faction's capital city zone and then work outward. Imagine yourself as a new character and start there, speaking to everyone you can and doing all the quests you can. You should increase your rep pretty quickly that way too.
You know this begs Blizz to implement the yellow ! over all available quest givers once you hit maximum level or even all the time.

Speaking of BUGS. I noticed last night when i was doing BG that if you happen to leave while you have "sharpend weapons" that even after the effect wears off it does not go away untill you die. Which was pretty cool seeing how i ran out of Sharpening stones.
Oomfoofoo Dec 19th 2006 11:35AM
Please say it aint so! I did all the quests available for UC rep months ago. Ugh.
Donner Dec 19th 2006 12:17PM
I dont get it whats with horde and saying alliance is easy. You have no proof to back up your claims, and I found horde easier to play anyways when I played on it. Also get some proof if you bring me real proof I will believe that horde is harder to play then alliance. Otherwise Ill stay just as stuborn about this topic.
Oh and dont say Im just beating on the horde I have a 40 shammy.
cyborg23 Dec 19th 2006 12:25PM
it is intended, just look at the official patch notes, "Fixed an issue where high level players were not being properly credited the right amount of faction reputation."
talz13 Dec 19th 2006 12:25PM
This is BS... they should refund all the points lost to everybody who already did these quests at higher levels. What was the point in doing all those quests last fall when I was trying to get just a tiny bit more rep, and now they get 10x the amount...
Man, this sucks!
Peregwyn Dec 19th 2006 11:11PM
I only noticed that I was getting full rep for the new (grey) Blood Elf quests I was doing in various places. I assumed that was done so that getting the new faction rep wouldn't be such a pain. I didn't realize it was for all the factions.
Atto Dec 20th 2006 3:46AM
Maybe we can make a list of all the added Blood Elves and Draenei so we can work on reputation before the expansion hits...
