Breakfast Topic: A wipe to remember

Mostly, full group or raid wipes are lame. Really, really lame. But sometimes, every once in a while, you'll have a wipe come along that is so spectacular, so fun, and so memorable, that it almost makes the repair costs worth it.
So let's hear your best wipe story. The shot above wasn't actually a wipe (we finished the Tiger boss in ZG with one solitary hunter left, and it was awesome), but my guild will always joke about the time our Warlock lead accidentally fell off the bridge in MC and onto the head of Golemagg-- who then proceeded to make his way all the way around the instance, grabbing every lava pack and puppy on the way, and crushing every single one of us out of existence. TS was just full of people screaming, yelling, and laughing the whole time. Oh, the Horde-anity!

So we're in AQ40, (and this is a good while ago.) We had just killed Sartura (again.) When one of my rogue class mates says hey i'm gonna stealth down the tunnel! I'm like yeah gg, don't walk into a soldier. So we're doin' all the loot and people are just winding down ready to move on when all the sudden we get the good ol' fashioned holy crap over vent "oh lol I lagged into a bug."
"Yeah ya did."
we had bugs trained all the way back to the enterance before everyone was dead not even a hunter survived.
I still have the FRAPS of that wipe and i don't think I'll ever delete it. Probably not our best wipe story, but certainly our most memerable one!

One of the stories i like sharing (and i'm only 32) was when me and a group were running DeadMines. Everything was going well.. we were pulling evreything perfectly everyone was doing their job. Then for some reason a druid friend of mine runs down into the goblin factory area and runs around the whole thing then brings them back up to us on the ramp. Ive had ALOT more funny stories in only 4 wks... but thats my most memorable one :)

One of our shamy asked us to let him overheal himself in order to aggro the "drakkes" just before Néfa at BWL.
guess what happened ... he died 3sec after the begining of the event ... and we call him "the insane guy" now huhu :p
C'mon shammies ! 2.0 doesn't make U that powerful ;)

So we're at MC, before Garr. We cleared the Annihilator and the MT is going to pull the right pair of giants. Only, somehow, he does it too close to the the dog patrolling in front of Garr. The dog somehow pulled Garr along with it, who pulled the left pair of giants. Who pulled the dog that just at that moment came out of the left tunnel leading to Gedon's area.
so we had a few seconds of "oh %$!#" before we're hit with 4 giants, 2 dogs, Garr and his adds. Not our quickest wipe (Vael try #1 was quicker ;)), but cetainly one of the most memorable :)

On Monday, we were doing Onyxia, and it wasn't going well. As always I was on whelp tanking duty in phase 2, and most of the raid was dead after two deep breaths. We could see we weren't going to get her down this attempt, so I said in officer chat: "Can I run through the whelp cave?" The GM only said "lol". When the next deep breath warning came, instead of going to the sides I ran straight through the cave, hatching ALL the whelp eggs.
What made it even funnier was that my class officer (who was also the raid leader) had done exactly the same thing, and I only realised when I saw him running towards me with a trail of whelps behind him. We both died in the middle of the whelp cave (underneath the bridge) with the entire screen filled with whelps. All of them then flew off out of the cave to kill what was left of the raid. Hearing the cries on Vent was a moment I shall cherish always.
Best. Wipe. Ever.

I can't remember how many times I've seen the last surviving holy-priest of what should have been a wipe give the coup-de-grâce to some boss with his dot/wand. Makes me wet my pants from laughter every single time.
From the "fights to remember"-book, one of my favorites is with my former guild, on a Onyxia-raid that started really bad from the start. Too much deep-breaths and half the 30-man raid dead before having her at 50%. So it looked like we would wipe, but folks didn't give up and there were like 4 people or sth alive from 25% on. What impressed me most was my GF who was the only healer left standing keeping the MT up for the last (quite hardous) 25% with only a couple of hunters or something as dps. Was really a nice kill for such a bad start^^

The best wipes are always the ones where mages/locks lose control, DPS too early on, and line up too many of those big phat unfortunate crits; LOVE them! Try that against Maexxna, instant wipe.
Hehe.. in all seriousness, I used to think wipes in BWL were bad because we'd have to run back across the whole zone in Searing Gorge (whenever we had no soulstone for whatever reason or couldn't use one, ie. suppression room). Naxx changed that for me, the first weeks in there as you're learning to deal with just the trash opened my eyes.

In my first raiding guild, we had just started raiding MC and such, and one week we started doing ZG. On our third night, we finally get a good try going at the snake boss when a mage or a warlock or somebody pulls aggro during phase two. Venoxis poison clouds the raid continuously as he bounces between dps while the tanks attempt to regain control. Healers die. Tanks die. He's at 1%. Dps dies. Venoxis just starts heading back up to the platform when a mage that d/c'ed at the beginning of the fight finally logs back in (this is way back when getting d/c'ed meant you were out of action for a good 3 minutes at least). Venoxis breaks and heads after him.
Combat Log:
Mage's Fire Blast hits Venoxis for XYZ damage.
Venoxis dies.
It was hilarious.

One night in MC we had just killed Garr and had set up the groups for Geddon. Our hunter puller summons his cat and uses it to pull Geddon. As Geddon comes back down the tunnel towards us, who should follow in his heels? Shazzrah. And a Core Hound. It didn't take us long to wipe.
Another time: We were progressing through AQ and had killed Huhuran and were working on the damnable Anubiseth Sentinel pulls. This was back when you could have a hunter pull and FD them off to reset their abilities if you didn't like them. After a lengthy process of this and several wipes dealing with Plague/Shadow Volley, one of our officers gets the bright idea "why don't we have a hunter pull the last 2 Sentinels and the rest of the group can run down the tunnel w/ a soulstoned Paladin and die in the Emps chamber? Then we can rez up and pull the Emps without having to do the last 2 Anubiseths."
Lo and behold, we do that and go on to pull the emps. As the door closes behind us, what should come pouring through? The two Anubiseths, because they are linked to the Emperors. GG instawipe.

I was in BRD about a week ago - doing the dwarf boss with all his little minions. We got the boss down, and his help - but then the adds came charging into the room. Our priest was having a real hard time keeping our MT alive, and it got down to just me, preist, and MT. I AOE'd to pull the aggro onto me and give the MT a breather, and was doing ok with siphon and drain life's. Then the priest ran out of mana...then the MT died...and here I am still drain tanking 5-7 high level mobs. I didn't manage to kill any more, but I didn't die until both I and my pet ran out of mana. Then it actually ocurred to me - I outlasted our tank...

Best wipe ever:
We had just finished off Razorgore (for the first time) a long time ago and made ourselfs ready for Vaelastraz.
I explained tactics and stuff we went into position and aggroed Vael.
3 seconds later we all where dead. Our MT died instantly Vael breathed into the whole ZERG so nobody was standing in the end.
It was just like .. "WTF!!" .. how can we do this if we don't even survive 3 secs..
but then we downed him a week later and everything was ok.. but that first try was really awesome.

Running Strat live with my guildies - a warrior, 2 druids, and 2 warlocks (if that sounds like the intro to a bad joke, you're probably right)... we're actually kicking ass. This is pre-patch mind you, so no felguards. Anyway, we're clearing groups we have no business clearing because it seems like we're constantly pulling adds, or patrols are spawning on us.
Well. We get to the pull before Fras Siabli's Tobacco box. The last pull to clear the area.
We pull.
An abomination patrol spawns.
An Eye of Naxxramas spawns.
The Eye of Naxx spawns 2 gargoyles.
We're still alive at this point. The warrior and myself are holding aggro, and our druid just innervated himself, but we're probably going to clear the area.
A second Eye of Naxx spawns.
Can you guess what happens next?

One wipe while my guild was learning Vael was the most memorable. We were on our 3rd or 4th wipe and everyone was getting in position for another attempt when suddenly...a hunter's pet goes straight in for Vael. Wipe madness ensued with frustration seeping onto teamspeak.
Well that was the last night that particular hunter raided as a hunter (she switched to a priest). She swore her pet was on passive and that she didn't touch her keyboard (yah, right). I don't think hunter pets were even allowed to be out at all after that night.

Best wipe ever was months and months ago, before the class reviews or the recent patch giving out 41 point talents. Back before anyone in my guild had a single epic item.
We were running yet another Baron run as we all needed the god forsaken pants to try to get the dungeon sets for our characters. We felt at the time it was the best gear we'd ever have as we are not a raid guild. There we are, a Warrior, a Hunter, a Holy Priest, a Demonology Warlock, and my Rogue. We had read earlier that day that a Hunter could solo Baroness Anastari if they kept her at range with very light healing because there would be no MC's. So the hunter is told to pull and to try to hold aggro on herself, she puts her pet on stay and goes off to pull. It is working right up untill the first spell hits her and does damage.. like a bullet from a gun the pet goes streaking off with a chorus of "No Kitty" over vent as the pet runs through 2 spawns to get at Baroness Anastari.
This was perhaps the best wipe ever as the group as a whole now refers to it as the "No Kitty" moment.
I have always felt the best part of the game is the comraderie with the other players and wipes seem to really cement that if you are playing with a group of friends. I have never laughed harder in game than after a wipe.

So I'm getting a run through VC on my alt from 2 60 pallidans, and we get to the smelting room. so they run in while i chill at the top watching them. They jump down into the center and start killing things, and one yells for me to jump down and start looting, so I do. Instantly I aggroed the whole room, including the spiral area they skipped. And just like that, insta-wipe. I was laughing so hard when it happened everyone in vent was like "WTF happened?" from then on it was called the "unfortunate smelting accident" (Austin Powers reference).

Trying out my new Pally alt down in Gnomeregan, I get bored witht he MT thing, and decide to play with my trinkets. He's an engineer, so I fire up the Gnomish Universal Remote, and mind control one of the mechanical sentries. Amazingly, the control holds fighting off 2 other sentries. As the timer is about to run out, the thing's got maybe 10% health left.. Now this is in that upper deck of the hangar, so I get the bright idea "drop it over the railing and let it smash to bits"... and over the rails i send it..
About a minute later, I spot the consequence of my stupidity as everything from the lower decks and back comes charging around the ramp onto the upper deck.. My party's freaking cause the instance has frozen, they're trying to figure out what's happening.. I finally explain it over TS, and it takes the instance a full minute to finish crashing enough to unfreeze and acknowledge we're all dead dead dead..
Next time, I'll remember, only works if you drop them in lava...

One of my best friends in the game had just acquired a 60 hunter (her RL friend had stopped playing the game so he just gave the account to her). We were doing UBRS, and she was the only hunter there, so naturally she had to kite Drakk. She didn't really have any idea what she was doing. When the moment comes for her to kite it, she kites it to the left side with the WALL. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

My favorite wipe was when I was running Uldaman with my lvl 45 pally. We had a 60 pally with us, and the rest of the party was filled out with 40-somethings. We were fighting Ironaya and everyone wiped but me, and I continued to fight her solo for another (they clocked it) 10 minutes! I used every survivability skill endowed to pallys, and held my own for quite a long time. I got her down to about 10% before she killed me, and I'm quite proud of that. It was a glorious thing to hear the cheers of support from my dead comrades over Ventrilo.

So I'm getting a run through VC on my alt from 2 60 pallidans..And just like that, insta-wipe.. Larawen
Wow, that's just sad. My 60 paladin has held off the top 1/2 of the boat (Captain, VC, VC adds, etc..) in Deadmines by himself with blue gear. Here's a clue, use a shield, turn retribution aura on and spam heals - they'll kill themselves. 2 paladins should be able to clear the entire second half of Deadmines by themselves. Damn, I've cleared ZF with 2 pallies.

So, one night in Naxxramas, we decided to check out the Abomination wing. The one with the Bile Retchers, Slimes with massive AOE damage, and the like.
The night's off to a good start. Our tanks can't keep aggro on the Retchers, they're cleaving our raid like nobody's business, and a few wipes later, we're actually IN the wing.
Now it's slime pullin' time.
We run around in the circle, kiting slimes along the way, and in the midst of everything, a Pally went offline. Oh well, he's toast, everyone keep moving.
We finally get into the room with the slime sewer and pack into a tight corner to avoid aggroing slime respawns and other monsters. We're so happy we just made it, after such a bad experience at the entrance. Our main tank starts going over strats, and right before we start buffing...
Disconnected Pally comes back online, bubbles, and runs to meet the raid. With 30 slimes in tow.
"WHY AM I IN COMBAT?!" screams the raid leader.
"...OH MY GOD, THEY'RE COMING!" screams a Druid, who sees a Pally being chased down by 30 slimes with 4000dmg/sec AOE attacks.
So our main tank says "Screw this, I'm going to try Patchwerk", and runs off from the group, and pulls the entire wing on us.
Then a Mage zoned in, having just arrived to the instance. Our corpses, still piled up in the tight corner, see a parade of monsters B-line straight through walls to the entrance. Our Mage panics and tries to hearth, but alas, it was too late.
We called it a night after that.
