Free respecs in TBC... for rogues and druids
Even though we all got free talent respecs with the release of the 2.0.1 patch, some players were still hoping for another free respec with the release of the expansion-- quite a few players (myself included) are currently using raiding or PVP specs, and planning to change back over to PVE or solo specs when the expansion hits (to make their way up to 70), and were hoping for a free respec to do that with.Neth the Snowwoman put the kibosh on that idea today, though. There will only be free respecs, she says, for the classes with "significant changes implemented"-- right now, that means only Rogues and Druids will have all their talent points refunded for free come the Burning Crusade. Warriors waste no time (2 posts!) in QQing that that means their class isn't changing, but the bigger concern is just the gold. I bought another respec after my free one on my Shaman just to try out the new talents, and if I don't get a free respec with the expansion, I'll definitely be buying another one at 61, and one more at 70. The cash adds up after a while.
A few players suggest resetting the costs on respecs at the very least. But come on, I'm paying $40 real life (actually $60, for the CE). The least Blizz could do is give me a break on spending money in the game.

/agree. I have a 60 druid I respecced to feral/resto (30/21) with the free patch respec, but I'll probably throw him into more feral for the lvling process. My priest, however, will not be included in the 2nd free respec...c'mon Blizz how about a respec discount?

I think blizz is doing the right thing by giving free respecs when significant changes are made, they dont need to give it to every class. So many people want freebies handed to them to make the game easier, but that doesnt make it more fun. Talent specs are supposed to be something you really consider and think about and there should be consequences for changing them. It takes away from the importance of talent specs if you can constantly change them with little to no consequence for doing so. And if you dont do it often, it really doesnt cost much gold anyway.

Yeah, but even subtle changes, are changes. So if you put the intended thought into every point, and then the talents change, your thought process is worthless.
It doesn't matter to me thought, Mages and Hunters are staying the same as far as I know.

No, its just tough tht you have to pay for respecc, lots of ppl would have to respecc, eg my mage is frost atm, but if i want to lvl fast i should respecc to fire, and im not moaning and winging about a free respecc

I think its bullcrap that they're not going to hand out respec's when you bloody BUY the expansion. My main is a druid, which I just (two days ago) specced resto to try out ToL in raids/pvp, so I'm glad I don't have to pay the 30g respec cost to go back to feral, I still feel this a bad move on blizzards part not giving it to everyon.

They should be resetting the talents and resetting the respec costs back to the beginning for every customer. This doesn't hurt anyone, it just makes the majority of Blizzard's customers happy. Oh wait... since when have they ever cared about that?

I think you're completely missing the point here. Yes, you should carefully choose your talent points because it costs money to change them. There shouldn't be "consequences" as you would say. This is a game. Some of us simply get bored with certain specs and enjoy changing it up. How can you say that we deserve a consequence for having different tastes than you?
The point you're missing is that this is going to be a new start for the most part and Blizzard should be allowing people to change it up without having to farm for some more gold and/or waste more gold.
I can guarantee I'll be buying more gold in the expansion because quite frankly, PvE and farming are two of the most boring things since Oprah.

Only thing I hate: Is not having the option to pass on the Free Respec...
Cause you still have to pay for the new spells or talents you may unlock.
And you still end up paying out gold.

@ #8: I thought Blizz refunded the money spent on the spells you have to relearn...

Oh hell no...After the last free respec, I had to spend serveral gold back into it and my bank account wasn't any larger before when I logged in after the patch.

@9 - I had to spend gold to rebuy all my spells and abilities I knew beforehand...and I nearly ran out of money on one character - so no they did not refund the money spent.
@2 - I agree with you on this matter as does Blizzard apparently. They feel (and I agree) that if they gave free respecs all the time, it'd cheapen the whole talent tree. Why dither over whether you have one skill over another for PvP or raiding if you can just switch your talents each and every time you change what you're doing? Personally, I believe the cost for cumulative respecs should go down quicker and also be capped to 25 gold like bank slots are now.
Meh, as a Warrior I'm used to nerfings...not having a respec won't kill me.
