The Burning Crusade: Preparing for the Expansion
With exactly two weeks to go, I'm left feeling a little blah about what to do in the World of Warcraft. Not quite enough time to get another character to 60 (well, maybe my shammy), not really in the mood for raiding when my gear is soon to be replaced anyway, and the PvP grind is wearing me out a bit.
Fortunately for me (and for you!), I came across a posting on TenTonHammer from about a month ago. So while it may be "old news" to you, I think that it's well worth the read, given that we're so close to launch. The article covers the following topics with some good hints and tips:
- Cleaning your inventory
- Quest journal
- Jewelcrafting prep
- Rolling a Blood Elf or Draenei
- Supply and Demand
I'm now totally thinking about getting some gear for my soon-to-be Draenei mage, err hunter, err mage. Well, whatever character it is, I think I'll try to get some gear, so don't go over-inflating prices on my server, okay? I already had a bank character, so I'll be shifting inventory to it, and I'm not sure if I'll give up smithing or engineering on my main for jewelcrafting. Maybe the new character will go mining/jeweling.
Go check out the article, then come back and let us know if you have anything to add to their preparation list!

The most I have done in preparation for the expansion was buy all the bank slots I hadn't got yet and created a character with the name that I want to use for my Blood Elf priest so no one takes it before I can make him.

The post pretty much sums it up, but they forget a couple things.
There's a lot of stuff that's currently big in the endgame now that's roughly worthless in the expansion. All the high ticket stuff, like Arcane Crystals and the like get much easier to find. So, if you're thinking about hording it, banish the thought. Much better to sell it now and get gold for it than be sitting on it later when it's worth 1/10th the price.

The problem with with that is that gold is going to be massively inflated as well, so it's probably best to actually try and buy stuff that'll be in short supply once TBC hits, so your investment keeps some value. Bars (rather than ores (for stacking reasons)) should be a decent investment with everyone trying to level up new chars (and thus new skills) and Jewel Crafting needing a lot of ores.
Keeping gold in your bank is the WoW version of keeping money under the bed

i have 20 or so stacks or runecloth to lvl my tailoring past 300.

Yes, now is the time to sell sell (in fact your probably a bit late) stuff like enchanting materials/moon cloth/rugged hides before demand drops out completely (some items might become more valuable though, like jewel crafting mats).
Do hoard your rune cloth however, as apparently levelling first aid on to the next bandage type is quite tough.

Since I'm a poor ol' pally who hasn't reached 60 yet, I'm at least trying to get him to 50. But other than that, I'm running him through VC and Mining a ton of ore for my Dreanei Priest. Or I may just sell them all at A super inflated Chinese Gold Farmer Special Price!

Heh...Forgot to add but on my server(Dragon maw-US) there's been a few PUG Ony Groups. I'll never see that again, ever.
