Three funny quickies from WoW Lj
Three quickies from the WoW Livejournal that I found chuckleworthy today:How many GM swords do you see in the picture of the AV loading entrance to the right? I'm a slacker (I haven't done any serious PVP grinding yet), so I haven't gotten mine, but it looks like everyone else is picking up epics aplenty thanks to the new honor system. I'm sure there's a few dual wielding warriors and a few rogues in there, but still-- that's a lot of Grand Marshal blades (and are those the shoulders, too?).
I'm still not convinced, however, that they should raise honor prices. Maybe Blizzard should just come up with some new kinds of swords to buy.
From the forum sig of a dwarf pally:
I'm a little pally short and stout,
Here's my hammer, here's my mount.
When I see a horde I scream and shout,
Pop on ma bubble and hearthstone out.
Here's my hammer, here's my mount.
When I see a horde I scream and shout,
Pop on ma bubble and hearthstone out.
And last but not least, I bet they do. And I bet they play Alliance, too.

As someone who did the PvP grind to rank 13 (couldn't hit 14 cuz I got a job and moved sooner after college than expected), I really hate the new honor system.
I used to love it when people complimented me on my gear, and the effort it took to earn it. Running organized PvP groups that dominated WSG and AB. Never "scouting" or /afk-ing on any challenge. My guild really earned a rep as good players and were easily recognizeable.
Now with the new system, I see everyone running around with glowing shoulders and HWL staves and swords. It's really deminished what my guildmates and I accomplished.
It was already bad enough with the introduction of cross-server ques. While WSG ques went from 2 hours to 2 seconds (which is great), it created players who grinded their honor by simply playing AV solo. No organization, no skill, no problem! Just sit in AV for hours on end and rank up. Meanwhile my guildies who had yet to earn their PvP gear were stuck having to play non-stop for hours a day in our organized WSG and AB groups.
I wish Blizzard would implement a way to reward those people who actually accomplish things in PvP, rather than just sit around long enough to get their gear. It would be equivalent to me being able to earn my tier 3 gear by zoning into Naxxramas and just sitting at the entrance long enough till the gear appeared in my inventory.

Perhaps you and your friends should get outside and play basketball or something...I hear that there are even women out there in real life when you aren't only stuck to a computer screen grinding 14 levels. Might be why blizzard did this.

Agree with 3.
I can't respect someone whos priorities in life are putting like 50+ hours a week into a video game. Yeah, GG. I hope you still feel like a big man when I get the SAME gear for about a month of relaxed playing.

I hear that sort of comments from several people I know who struggled through to their higher ranks. Most of them realize that Blizzard had to change the system - taking 80+ hours a week of your life away for weeks on end just to hit Rank 14 is pure ridiculous. However, I agree with them that currently it's much too easy to get what used to be unatainable gear. Mayhaps Blizzard needs to implement different standards of the gear dependant on your reputation, skill, and honor/tokens you've earned. Hard to say what could be the best solution at this point, but it is safe to say we'll see more changes to PvP soon.

Seriously you sound very selfish. The pvp system sucked before the patch. Those without the organized daily guild pvp runs were screwed. Reward the minority?
I put in hours daily for a month when AV first came out.
Solo. I couldnt get past the hump of bloodguard...I can't compete with the folks in organized pvp guilds.
So they made things appeal to the masses and reward efforts of the masses vs minority.
qq more... What else does the casual player get? So far Blizz has appealed to the raid guilds with Naxx,ZG, AQ....what have they done for the casual dude who joins pugs? Nada.
There are far more of us than the ones in organized guilds. So we get shafted cause we are not in guilds like yours? BS.
Go raid Naxx or something...you guys have the content geared for your guilds... atleast we have the new pvp to gear up out of our tier 0's.

Apparently trolls exist here as well.
Before Cross-server ques, attainnig rank 14 did not require 80 hour weeks or 24 honor grinds. Because of bonus weekends, and running with an organized team that won 95-100% of the time, we were able to outpace those people who were que-ing solo 80 hours a week. It wasn't a problem.
Once X-server hit, yes, ques went down, but with instant AV ques, it was easy for people to beat us out in honor through account sharing and botting.
I still fail to see what the difference in the PvP grind and the PvE grind is. People like the person above jump at the chance to call honor-grinders names, and tell them to "get a life". How would the PvE community react if suddenly players simply had to zone into Naxxramas and sit there for a certain amount of time until tier 3 gear appeared in their inventory?
I believe a step towards a solution is rather simple.
1) Double or triple the honor given to the team who win games. This encourages grouping, teamwork, and organization. It looks like this is very similar to how the Arena system will work in Burning Crusade. The teams that win will move up the ladder, and therefore earn more Arena points.
2) Severly lower the honor gain in AV, OR, set some kind of limit to how many AV games can be up at any given time. This step might not be necessary if my first suggestion would be implemented simply becasue games would become less of a race since it is in everyone's best interest to ensure they win the game.

Why do people feel the need to have their egos stroked in a game environment? One too few hugs as a child? I don't get it. My gear is my gear. If I'm unhappy with it, I'll get better gear. I don't do it to get compliments. I can get those from women.
haha I got HWL Gear in a week Jan 4th 2007 4:54PM
HAHA. Blizz has learned not to cater to the hardcore gamer anymore. 86% of WoW players are considered casual gamers, people that play 10-15 hours a week. So, why would they not make the xpac and honor more accessible to 86% of the population? It will be funny to see all the HWL/GM players actually use skill and not 20 hour daily honor grinds in Arena etc.
ps I am in a Naxx guild but consider myself casual :)

Wow people jump on any opportunity to put anyone down. It's sad really.
When you really think about it, the old pvp grind didn't really take too much "skill", just time. The new PVP is going to be in the arena's. A system that is really going to show who does and doesn't have skill. So for people that made it to rank 13/14 just think of this way: The old PvP is dead, its time to forget about it and start working on the new PvP. If you're really as skilled as you say you are, climbing the ladder will be no problem.

"I still fail to see what the difference in the PvP grind and the PvE grind is."
at least with the PvE grind, you could take a week off here or there. you could not do that to rank up in PvP.
"How would the PvE community react if suddenly players simply had to zone into Naxxramas and sit there for a certain amount of time until tier 3 gear appeared in their inventory?"
I despise 'honor bots', just as you do. I wish blizz would implement something to give extra honor to those that actually do damage to other players (or heal), or cripple the honor for those that do no damage (or healing).... or both. if something like this were implemented, then your analogy would not hold water. in PvE, all it takes is the right group to work together to kill bosses. there is no limit as to how much progress they MUST make in one week. this is the big difference between the old PvP and PvE. Yes, you have to put in your time, but you were not competing against other PvE groups for your own gear. Blizz never said 'Only the raids that down Kel'thuzad in 6 weeks of starting Naxx can ever get full tier 3. If you take a week off, sorry about your luck'. that would complete stupidity, and that's basically how the PvP system was set up.

Now, you see, that little poem is OLD. I am talking old, as in, almost as old as the game itself.
Now, the funniest part about it is; it would be funny if it was actually funny.
But it's not.
