Forum Post of the Day: Mr. Trade Channel Price Police Guy

If you've ever tried to sell anything over a public channel, I'm sure you know this guy. As soon as you announce the price, there's always at least one person who's happy to chime in and explain, with a lol or two, how there's no way that item is worth that much and how either you are an idiot or anyone who might buy for you is an idiot. Always a fun conversation -- but, really, you're going to have to read this post by Undertow in order to get a proper appreciation of Mr. Trade Channel Price Police Guy.

While that's certainly amusing, I've seen plenty of cases where people were selling stuff for double what you could get it off the AH for. It's usually standnard stuff, tradeskill items, recipes etc. Occasionally, it'll be so meone selling old BoE epics from MC for 1k a piece or more.
In those cases, you need Mr Trace Channel Price Police Guy.

I really really hate that guy.

Yeah, that guy chimed in when I posted my 34 pound redgill on trade for 300g... I ended up selling it for like 50 silver, which was better than I thought I'd get.

i actually stopped using trade and only use the AH now because of that guy.

I think it's more a fact of buyer beware on the publics. If people are selling in public they either ) Don't know how to use the auction house or b) trying to scam someone.
I refuse to buy or trade anything in the public channels now due to the attempted scams happening, and dealing with idiots who don't have a clue is not the way I want to spend my time in-game.

I've been that guy. There's nothing wrong with whispering a helpful, more accurate price fyi when someone asks a ridiculous price for something.

Any item is only worth whatever someone is willing to pay. It's not up to us to stop people trying to rip others off. If anyone is trying to sell something for double it's usual value, then good luck to them.

"It's not up to us to stop people trying to rip others off."
Why not? I'd warn my guildies who are contemplating buying something hideously overpriced. Who are you to tell me not to extend that courtesy to the general buying public?

Not really a "police" matter as it happened in pst, but some dude in Trade was selling Fiery War Axe. I'd seen it in AH the day before for 80G, so I asked what price this guy wanted. He asked what I would offer so I said 65G (thought it was a more than generous start to the haggling process).
He then proceeded to call me a "stupid nublet" and explain that it goes for more than 100G at AH and he wanted 120G for it. I told him he was acting like a dickhead and that he should check the AH more often.
He threatened to report me.
I told him I had screen caps of our convo where he was trying to rip me off and called me a nublet first.
He stopped talking to me.
I bought it from AH for 50G a few hours later.
I now avoid 2.Trade
