Adventures in Beta: Fun with Seed of Corruption
.jpg)
The final entrant in our series of easily abused Burning Crusade spells is the warlock's Seed of Corruption. According to Blizzard, this level 70 spell "imbeds a demon seed in the enemy target, causing 1044 Shadow damage over 18 sec. When the target takes 1044 total damage, the seed will inflict 1110 to 1290 Shadow damage to all enemies within 15 yards of the target." Beta testers have found that the "bomb" will also go off if the target dies with Seed of Corruption on them.
Aside from killing Xzin and making jokes about "planting a demon seed," what can Seed of Corruption be used for? Its obvious use is for killing large groups of low-level mobs, but how can it work beyond that? Murderella (what a great name for a female gnome warlock!) and other warlocks have come up with a few on the beta forums:
- Put Seed of Corruption on a hunter's pet and then get within melee range. The pet will follow you and the hunter will be hurt by the explosion when the bomb goes off.
- Put Seed of Corruption on the flag runner in Warsong Gulch if they're surrounded by healers. Uh-oh! Bonus points if you Shadowfury on top of them when it goes off.
- When someone gets low on health in group PVP and runs back to their group, hit them with a Seed of Corruption and try to take out as many people as possible.
- When dealing with an enemy that summons annoying low-level minions (a druid's treants, mobs that summon skeletons, etc.), dot the controller up with Seed of Corruption. It'll damage the main guy and hopefully kill the minions.
One side note: Seed of Corruption apparently has a nasty habit of extending through walls, ceilings, floors, etc., so it may be best to avoid using it in roomed instances such as Karazhan until it's fixed.
Have any warlocks around here come up with a cool use for your new demon seed?

I heard rumors about the ability to chain react seeds - has anyone discovered if it's easy to set up, or just dumb luck?

My Blood Elf is goign to be a warlock. I can't wait to see this in action!
But does anyone know the cooldown of this spell? It's pretty powerfull so I guess it has a long cd right?

Using it with Mind Control... Seeding someone running them into a crowd and then getting rid of the MC right before the end of 18sec. This could also work against a friendly that is farming the same resources you are... Seed/MC.... Of couse you need a preist friend to help you out with that.

I guess you could toss it on a shammie totem for a quick aoe nuke.

that's piss poor low ass damage for a lvl 70 skill, IMO
Hopefully for their sake +dmg gear will make it better.
Cloak of Shadows for the win, BTW.

yeah that is piss poor damage. an AOE that does 1k damage, + bonus damage from gear, that takes 2 seconds to cast on someone. You're right, that's downright awful.
I fell down the sarcasm tree today.

Hehe - naked raid on Goldshire! Have a fellow guildie run into the middle of goldshire (preferably when there's a lot of lowbies hanging around dancing/dueling) with the Seed of Corruption on him. The guards and/or 60's will kill him...and take out half the town!

That actually is bad damage. At level 70 everyone will have stamina off the charts whats 1k damage when I have 11k hp?

This probably should not be thought of as a PvP weapon as poster 10 is suggesting. Multiple warlocks using normal dots (I really didn't notice a difference in damage that I do after the "nerf") and then using Seed. Tight encounters with 2-3 locks means that the main dotted mob will take good damage, and teh surrounding mobs get hit hard with free damage. The big drawback I see here is if the spell aggros the other mobs to the locks. Tanks are not going to be happy about this spell.

Demon Seed Roulette: any instance with a high number of critters running around amongst the mobs. For example, Scholo. Seed a rat, and see how many groups of mobs it pulls when it pops (probably after about 3 seconds). Fun for the whole party!

The problem with Seed of Corruption is that you can't use it with regular corruption so its not that great in PvP unless casting in one spot is your playstyle.

I can't wait to use this in AV with Unstable Affliction. Can't wait to see this hit 10-15 horde on the bridge. Let alone the fact it's going to be FUN! it's so warlock-y. That's what I love about the idea of it. Get two warlocks together and it gets better.
Guess it's not long until I can see how much I actually like it in practice.

if your good enough at anticipating the end of a bg, throw it on someone seconds beforehand, when they port out on the other side, anyone low level may be unlucky enough to be anihilated.
