Remembrance of raids past
As we all get hyped for the new content of Burning Crusade, Mallet of Medivh pauses for a toast to Molten Core, Blackwing Lair, Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas, who had their last pertinent reset this week. Most of us have had some experience with these raids, and although many sincerely wish there had been more small-group content, you've got to applaud the thought and effort that went into the 40-man raids.
Mallet asks us all to remember our best raiding moments. Personally, I remember working nights and following guild progression on instant messenger as our little guild was dragged kicking and screaming through Molten Core, and the feeling of accomplishment whenever we killed something new despite being years behind in content. I remember everyone passing on Earthfury for my best friend because it was his birthday. I remember stepping into Blackwing Lair and thinking I would never ever understand the Razorgore encounter enough to beat it, and laughing hysterically with the other rogues during damage meter competitions on Vael. I remember getting dizzy running back and forth and back and forth to attack the melee brother on the Twin Emps. I remember getting yelled at for not knowing what "Sweep the leg!" referred to on Razuvious.
Most of all, I remember the good times I've had with friends and guildmates, memories that will outlast any loot we gained. So raise your glasses in a toast to the last 40-mans and repeat the mantra that all raiders have heard a thousand times: "LOOT THE #@*&! CORE HOUNDS!"
What are your best raiding memories?

We once used a "fight Luci until he runs completely out of mana" strategy due to insane MC lag. Funny thing is, we still got him down. It wasn't pretty, but it sure was funny. :-)

I've only done MC a few times, but still... LOOT THE #$@#ING CORE HOUNDS has always been a part of the experience.

We were all set up in Garr's room to battle Baron (in FR Gear) and asked the Hunter to pull, whihc he does he comes running back and who is following him SHAZZZ!!!!
We wiped and laughed hard and the hunter will never be able to live it down

I decided while pulling Shazz that I also needed to pull a core hound. Well not exactly needed too but he came along anyway. We still somehow managed to take them both down with I think 37 people in the raid.

First time in MC probably had the biggest impact on me. There I was, in all blues, fresh out of Scholo. To me, a raid was UBRS. A hard boss was Drak.
People were starting to venture in to MC and coming back with amazing stories of gigantic crushing gaurds right when you walk in, and fire mobs that spanwed little fire mobs that spawned even more little fire mobs. And there were stories of the most fearsome trash mobs in the game, massive 2 headed dogs that were like The Beast on steroids, and could take out half a 40 man raid group in a single breath.
I got in to a Molten Core raid! I was so excited, I was going to raid at this legendary place. I zoned in and we pulled the first 2 mobs. It was just so... epic feeling compared to everything I had seen up until then. They were huge! And they were destroying our tanks! And our raid!
We got them down after a couple attempts, and strangely had no problems with the double firelord pull. Then, I saw it, my first Core Hound! HOLY CRAP!!!
Nothing else later in the game was such a huge step up in all respects. Sure, later instances are more challenging, some of the encounters are designed far better, but nothing ever beat that very first MC run.
Other than that, first Nef kill, and first PW kill were high on the list.
Oh, and the 24 Druid Ony run we did on Draenor was awesome too! Almost ranks up there with the first MC run.

Hehe - I agree on the sentiments about the first ever MC run. I came late to raiding (OCT 2006)and joined a rebuilt raid group who were just starting on MC (The Griffin Order on Earthern Ring, Euro RP server) again with many new members. The feeling of sheer awe that I had actually made it to this place was fantastic and managing to take these giants was a great feeling. MC is now farmed so it has lost much of its lustre.
Funny things do still happen, however, and the tale of the Golemagg ninja pull by one of our mages will stay with us. There we were, all lined up ready to take down Golemagg. MT and OTs had been assigned and buffing was complete. The Raid Leader started the countdown "3,2..." when Golemagg just starts running off up the hill in his room followed by his dogs.
"WTF?" was the message typed by 39 keyboards. "Bugged?" "WTF?"
And then one of our mages landed among us using Slowfall. He had Frostbolted Golemagg from the bridge overlooking Golemagg's room where one of the runes are. Obviously he had hit him and Golemagg went running off. Then Golemagg just came trundling back to his room, ignoring all of us and calmly went back to stand on his spot as if nothing had happened. When people realised what had happened, it took another 5 minutes to get re-organised due to incapacitation from laughter.

Favorite MC raid memories? coordinating in the lock channel a massive rain of fire during the ghennes fight, cause everyone to freak out, all the while the locks are screaming in TS "get out of the rain of fire!!!" about 10 seconds later, everyone hated us, but it was still good laughs after the fight was over.
As an homage, we're doing an MC speed run. no explaination of fights, just a run from boss to boss with our best geared toons, and all their new pvp weapons, and we're gonna stomp the hell out of that place. Fully flasked and everything. Gonna be yummeh.

I agree with #9. My first MC run was actually a PUG from one of the more established guild on Skywall. They needed the tier2 pants for some of their alts and brought a long a bunch of us through MC for the tier1 stuff. And that first pull, I was thinking "Holy crap!" Yeah, it was old content at the time, but it was my first real raid, and I really enjoyed it. Of course, it was pretty embarrassing as well. After wee pulled our first core hound and the tank pulled him around, the core hound died on the right hand side of the bridge. I couldn't see where I was walking and ran right off into the lava and had to ask for a rez. I didn't fall for the "Look in the window and see Rag swimmming in the lava" though. But 20 people in our raid did. :)
