2.0.5 patch notes
2.0.5 seems to have rolled out again, this time with fewer problems (I'm now on and playing, anyway). I doubt very many of you are reading from work (unless you're in Europe, I suppose), but here are the rather boring patch notes:World of Warcraft Client Patch 2.0.5 (01/14/2007)
- Increased the maximum number of realms that can be listed in the Realm List.
- Updated the Terms of Use.
- Created an option to disable UI Acceleration for users of select video cards experiencing graphical corruption of the User Interface. To utilize this option, enter the following line to the Config.wtf file, located in the WTF subfolder of the game:
- Set UIFaster "x"
Where x equals:
- 0 - This turns off all UI acceleration
1 - For Internal Use Only - DO NOT USE!
2 - Enables partial UI acceleration only.
3 - Enables all UI acceleration.Example:
Set UIFaster "2"
Note: For users experiencing graphical corruption of the User Interface, it is recommended to try option 2 in order to correct the problem. If this does not solve the issue, then use option 0 to disable all UI Accleration.

Graphical corruptions you say?
Display properties --> settings --> advanced button --> Troubleshoot tab --> turn OFF "Enable Write Combing"
This fixes a lot of graphical corruptions ESPECIALLY if you use an nVidia 7000 series (GeForece 7600GS in particular). Hell, the setting defaults to checked but actually warns you it may corroupt the card. Just un-check it if you have problems before you go turning down your game settings to a miserable level.

Has anyone gotten an explanation from Blizzard on WTF the "WTF" folder stands for? I can just imagine the following scenario...
[Clueless Bliz Dev]: man, I can't figure how to fix this problem...
[Somewhat-pointy-hair boss]: Well, get on it! I don't wanna give them more free playtime...
Dev: Let's try this...Damn!
Boss: Duh...
Dev: OK, let's see if I can hack it, damn!
Boss: Duh...
Dev: WTF! None of those fixes work! WTF is going on??
Boss: Duh....
Dev: OK, I have no clue! I'll hack it by adding a line to the config file in the WTF folder! I mean, that's why we created that folder, right??
Boss: Duh...
Dev: Well, at least this will get us by until the next patch...
Boss: Duh...
Dev: Ship it!!
Boss: Duh...

Well, this patch has me fubared. I can't download it since my college has anti p2p, and as I use a mac, I can't find a standalone mirror. Blizz hasn't replied to any of the posts from mac users about this, and as it's a holiday, their tech support is closed.
I was looking forward to pvp'ing all day for my last piece :/. Goddamn it.

the WTF! folder is what blizzard tells you to make when you need to copy files oyu want to keep like user settings and game profiles. I had to do it when I had to deleate some files so they would auto re download. Hehe I luv the real world touches and how they dont treat us like children or idiots.

Inquiring minds want to know what happens when you set that UI variable to '1' ??

Blizzard says "WTF" stands for "World Text Folder". But I wouldn't be surprised if that name was chosen for more than one reason. ;)
