Gullerbone hit 70 before you did
The forums are abuzz this morning with news of a world-first level 70. In just 28 hours, Gullerbone, of the EU Archimonde server took his mage named Gawell from 60 to 70 in the Outlands.
Our friends over at World of Raids managed to get an interview with Gullerbone shortly after the event.
The beginning of the interview is below, click the read link for more, and then come back and let us know what you think about Gullerbone's dogged determination to get this world first.
[WoR]Teza: Can you introduce yourself quickly in a few words?
Gullerbone: I am french and 24 years old, a member of Millenium (french guild) since 1-2 months and I was the one playing the mage called Gawell for this exp rush, eventually I will reroll shaman to complete my PvP arena team.
[WoR]Teza: Whats your played time from 60 to 70? Which zone were you in when you reached lvl 70?
Gullerbone: It took me 28 hours to get from 60 to 70, and dinged 70 at 4:04 am (CET) on Januar 17. I was in Netherstorm (subzone: Mana forge) when i reached lvl 70.
[WoR]Teza: What was your preparation? How did you make it in such a short time?
Gullerbone: Cau (the 1st european lvl 60) and I planned the exp route step by steps, trying everything to make sure it was the most approriate, the groups organization with the guild Millenium and their members. Each member rotated using a definite order to help me to grind on mobs, mostly with AE, surrounded with several guildmates healers, tanks, pullers etc...

Oh yeah? I soloed my way to 70 with my eyes on fire.
Try leveling with a tiger eating your legs.
Seriously though, good on him. At least he's proud something other than griefing lowbies.

heh, dedication is.
Gunn Jan 17th 2007 11:01AM
Oh boy I can get to 70 first with the help of my entire guild.
Get to 70 first by soloing, then come talk to us.
Prauche Jan 17th 2007 11:04AM
Gee, if I could tag a mob and have 35 of my closest buddies help me in killing them without getting any of the credit (read, xp), I could level to 70 quickly too.
Rayze Jan 17th 2007 11:08AM
Heh, I really can't say anything about this that hasn't already been said...

I love how everyone knocks peoples accomplishments in this game. Obviously it was a guild effort but who cares. The guy dinged 70, he wins the race. Most of us were never racing and don't care but that's no reason to knock him for it.
Also, you have to love the "So you did Y, that's easy, come back to us when you've done X" crowd. What makes you think your measurement of accomplishment is any more relevant his? More then likely when someone solos to 70 you'll just come along and say that was easy and he should come back when he's all in tier 5, or when he's killed Illidan, or whatever crap you feel like spouting that day.
Anyways, gratz to the guy on achieving something that's obviously important to him (and to many others judging by all the jealous responses).

french chicks are hairy. id be doing the same exact thing. grats on level 70.

What's funny is on the World of Raid forum thread, there are tons of haters (most seem American) and the ones who are congratulating him all seem to be European lol!
Ehh i thought it was funny - Americans are just dicks (wait, I'm American) *shrug* It's my God given right to be a dick ;)
Panthro Jan 17th 2007 11:34AM
Why is he 70 and from the SS the highest player in his group is 62? Wouldn't some players have naturally gotten higher than that? What method did he use.
Bad interview.

I'm more of the "So you did Y, wow, how little life do you have?" crowd. I am sure he is thrilled and proud of his accomplishment. I am also sure that years from now, when he's an old man lying on his deathbed, he will look back on this moment as the highlight of his full and successful life. This will be because the odds are against him doing anything really worthwhile, and lets face it, once you've leveled to 70 in 28 hours, its all downhill from there.
However, if he decides to stop here, he'll actually come out ahead as he'll have wasted less time playing BC than the rest of us. Some how, I don't see that happening though.
I congratulate you...in much the same way I might congratulate a man who ate is own bodyweight in hotdogs. An accomplishment, but one that is ultimately pointless.
OneMHz Jan 17th 2007 12:43PM
Wow... very impressive, and just a bit scary. ;) I can appreciate so devoted a guild.
Freehugz Jan 17th 2007 11:43AM
THIS IS HOW PEOPLE DIE PLAYING WOW!
Prauche Jan 17th 2007 11:40AM
Look, all I'm saying is: It's not HIS accomplishment. It's a *guild* accomplishment -- okay, w/e, I can at least accept that. Yay, nice job. But to say it's HIS accomplishment is completely misleading and disingenuous. Let's call a spade a spade.
And yes, I'm an American, everyone thinks we're dicks, so why not continue to perpetuate the stereotype? I mean, if you expect it, we should confirm your expectations shouldn't we? If we didn't, it'd blow your mind....
Sad Jan 17th 2007 11:43AM
Well Congrats I guess.
I feel more sorry for him. He blew past all content hit level 70. So what now?
Does this really speak about the expansion also? I mean take a look...just over a day and someone can hit 70.
I somewhat feel this expansion falls short of my expectations. Way short. I think warcraft just died for me permanently. =\
This story disappoints me about the game big. There is always Vanguard
Sad Jan 17th 2007 11:48AM
@rayze
No no...it has nothing to do with EU or NA players...
WoW players are mostly dicks. Since the expansion launched and most left VG beta....our chat has changed dramatically.
It went from rude obnoxious wow this or that..VG isnt wow blah blah...to actual Calm community warm chatter again.
This proves to me the hardcore wow fanboy is the most rude species on the planet. =)
andy Jan 17th 2007 12:25PM
i was under the impression it would take AGES to get to 70, reduced xp for grinding, reduced xp for questing and much higher level caps.
tbh it doesnt seem to have changed much.
Rayze Jan 17th 2007 11:53AM
To Sad:
I've thought about Vanguard for a while now...Are you in VG? How do you like it?
Bartholemues Jan 17th 2007 11:58AM
@12. I think it's pretty much just internet people in general. There are definately far more in WoW then a lot of other games but that is because of it's broad appeal (that doesn't make it any better of course but it explains it).
I wish Vanguard was going to be ready on release but they're rushing it out the door so I will wait a few months and pick it up then if it has improved enough. Hopefully they get enough subscribers so that they can at least spend some decent money on development but I won't hold my breath anymore.
Dan B. Jan 17th 2007 12:01PM
I'm of the 'That doesn't sound like a lot of fun' variety.
I mean... ok, you're 70. You played for 28 straight hours to get there. You didn't do quests/dungeons, or if you did, you didn't stop to enjoy the scenery. You didn't stop to read the story. Is that it for Speed Racer? Well, I guess he can go level an alt now and wait on his friends to catch up.
Matt Jan 17th 2007 12:04PM
@ Sad
This guy set out to blow through the expansion. I've been playing for 2 days and havent even made it halfway to 61.
Also, Vanguard and WoW are two different games. You're free to play whichever one suits your fancy, or both if you have a lot of free time. Enjoy Vanguard, and the rest of us will have our fun playing this "disappointing" expansion pack.
