The Burning Crusade's enduring war on spelling
A friend of mine opened up a chest in the Slave Pens the other day and received some very nice blue rogue shoulders. Since I'm a rogue with Bloodfang shoulders -- not the best in the world -- I offered him 40 gold for the item, which he accepted. It was only after I equipped them that I discovered that I was now the proud owner of the "Demon Hide Spaulers."
Not a big deal, right? Spaulders isn't a very common word. That's what I thought until today, when the "Torquoise Brooch" dropped. Come on. And let's not start on the many player-created mispellings of Shattrath and Draenei.
Have you found any other ... interestingly spelled items in BC?

My favorite is the Viscous Hammer.

Viscous? I see nothing sticky about it.
I sent GMs a "Uhhh...think it's supposed to be Vicious, guys?" and got no real response.
Who knows. Maybe it IS supposed to be poorly named.

There's a quest from Thrallmart that asks you to "kill some orcs in the surruounding(sic) area."
I guess someone should have proofread the quest text a bit more..

My friend got a random green.... Boot. Single boot. Not boots, but boot.

One quest in Falcon Watch gives a reward that may or may not include a typo of "Sunstrider."

I haven't installed the expansion yet, and got an even more interesting bug... my new BC green shoulders grant 27 Agility, but everyone examining me sees 28 THOUSAND agility.

I seem to remember early patches noting spelling corrections in them. I guess with something this big there's bound to be errors here and there.

Picked up part of the orc blood quest chain in Hellfire today. Apparently the "apethecaries" need more blood for investigation.

@2; Viscous doesn't really mean sticky. Usually talking about liquids, it means slow moving, such as syrup is a vicous substance.
Also I like the item, 'Woollies of the Prancing Minstral'
Drops off Hearthsinger in strath.

After i completed the quest "Felspark Ravine" that i got in Thrallmar, i had to turn it in to a certain Sergeant Kaplunk, there IS no such person, after searching for like 15 mins i found that the name was just a "misspell" of Sergeant Shatterskull.

Errr... I think there's bigger fish to fry spelling-wise. There's supposed to be seperate EU-GB and American clients so what's all this 'Honor Hold' nonsense?

last night i found an 'eivl haedres', i cant even type that accidently! I think they may have rushed release (after delaying it for 2 months)

Umm.... For the Blood Elf Warlock quest to get their Voidwalker, blue stone is spelled 'red' stone. Or the stone is the wrong color.

This is what happens when some of the quest text and many of the item names are not complete in the beta (Paladin Helmet 3984:28382, ftw!). Having three 60's*, I've come across a few quest typos in the original game as well. On one hand, when the server crashes, you reconsider priorities. On the other hand, Blizzard must have an employee or two dedicated to this, no?
* And now one 61, woot! (Crashes and queues slow things a bit.)

The Exorcism of Colonel Jules at honor hold, yet you have to save "Colonial Jules"?

Ah, I don't much care one way or the other about it in TBC, just roll my eyes and continue.
However, the chalk board picture attached to the original post is hilarious!!

The CORRECT SPELLING is: Armor, Honor, and Color.
Quit putting in an extra U, just because from from EU.
Moosli Jan 23rd 2007 11:17AM
@16
The CORRECT spelling is Armour Honour and Colour. It is called the ENGLISH language for a reason - correct me if im wrong but it could be that the language originates from England??
So my response to you would be stop tinkering with our language and taking out U's so you dont have to write as much!!! ;P

@17
I agree. Although I live in Canada I continue to use proper English, despite the fact that the majority of people do not. Occasionally I use the American spelling in the game just to make it easier on people that can't find the Armoury or whatever. That and having people tell me I spelled honour wrong when talking about PvP is annoying.
I've gotten several of my American counterparts to pick up the "u" and even correct me when I say "honor" or what have you in-game. It's nice to see that.
