Colts, Bears 1; Horde, Alliance 0
Nothing brings out the passion in large groups of people like football, and WoW players are no exception. Shattrath City general chat Sunday night was filled with "INTERCEPTION! COLTS WIN! YES!" and "Da Beaaaaarrrs!" Our guild's first 70 ended up spending his celebration night in the company of Jack Daniels aftere the Patriots let it slip away, and several dueling officers had Guild Message Of The Day fights. ("go colts!" "colts suck, go patriots!" "colts are awesome and patriots fans enjoy the company of farm animals!")
I had skipped going out to see the Colts/Pats game in a bar because it looked like a blowout first, and then spent the second and third quarters trying to figure out how I could quietly wipe my instance group and go watch the game. At least it's better than last year, where a guild member ended up actually getting gkicked for insisting that 1) USC was better than Texas, despite losing the game and 2) Women don't know anything about football.
How did the games play out on your server? Could you care less about football, or did you watch with bated breath and end up annoying your guildmates by screaming at the television while holding down your push-to-talk key in Vent?

Bears fan here and I spent the entire day watchin the games...kinda annoyed now though because I really needed to level up my blood elf.

Elizabeth, you get a huge thanks from me for correctly using the phrase "bated breath". For those who don't know, "baited breath" doesn't make any sense, and never has.
In other words, I don't care about football. :-)

Football as in using your feet?
WHATLOL

Yep that was us. In the middle of the last boss in BF my guildies yell out over vent YES OMG GO GO GO!!! (i cannot tell you how excited they were). Amazingly the healer who was a fanatic was able to keep us all up still, but it was funny as hell when they won and he gained aggro jumped out of his seat and died . . . pwned.

Strangely enough, the majority of WoW players around the globe aren't American and don't care about that sport you ripped off from rugby (and aren't even brave enough to play without armour... sheeesh) and I'm one of them. Colts are horses, Pats is a term for Patriotic people.
So, um, yeah.
BTW, the other 6 million WoW players think football is a game played by two teams of 11 men. I believe you call this "soccer".

What's this about anyways?

I watched both games today (leveling a Draenei hunter the whole time) and my server (Greymane) had a huge influx of Colts fans cheering their win, and one borish Scottish player telling everyone to STFU. Me, I live in Chicago and can't wait to see the Bears destroy the Colts.
Poppler Jan 22nd 2007 3:55AM
eh... I meant "boorish"

As a Bears fan I was devoting my full attention to watching the game.
I did however wonder what a mess general chat would be regarding the games. Not enough to check though.
Can't wait for the Bears to be crowned champs, we of course crowned their asses months ago.

As a pats fan I really wanted to cry after the game but then I think back to the 1-15 and 2-14 seasons.

WTF is this post about? "Football"? What is this "football" of which you speak? Is it... outside?
Ughtheorc Jan 22nd 2007 6:30AM
If you want to talk Football then Man Utd missed a golden chance to go 9 points clear by letting the Henry score in the 93rd minute of a 90 minute game...
CFC FTW.....

It's quite simple:
a) Sports is part of "reallife" (RL)
b) People play WoW partly in order to escape RL
c) People who chat ingame about RL sports are inconsiderate idiots who detract from others' game experience
d) Anyone who mentions RL sports in the ingame chat instantly lands on my ignore list.
Ollej Jan 22nd 2007 8:40AM
Yotix
That is quite harsh. I'm sure you have never, ever mentioned anything having to do with RL in any chat in the game.
Hnr Jan 22nd 2007 8:35AM
lol?
Dahlaine Jan 22nd 2007 8:40AM
Wow, its pretty funny how any mention of football immediatly bring out inner bitterness in two groups: anti-sports nerds, and Euro's. And they can't just skip the topic because "they don't care". They've got to let us know that they don't care or are pissed at any mention of American football! Or that Americans are so self centered because we use the same name as a sport they play for a different game. How dare we! I don't have anything against either of these groups, but its ridiculous that when Elizabeth just asks a simple question about what went down on the servers during a sporting event watched by millions of Americans, the thread is immediatly filled by negativity. Get over yourselves, and go back to the Nerf Warlock threads.
Anyways, my guild and I had a stirring back and forth verbal battle during the Colts game all the while trying to learn the pulls for the Mana-Tombs. Not something I would recommend, as the game was very distracting, and Auchindoun is no pushover!

Thank you Dahlaine.
Go Clots.

@3's Post:
If you were being tackled by a 275lb linebacker who was running full speed, I'm sure you would want to be wearing something other than your t-shirt.
