So you didn't buy the Burning Crusade

Just about everyone I know in WoW has jumped headfirst into the Burning Crusade, whether going to Outlands or leveling new blood elves and draenei. Many people who quit the game a long time ago have also come back, looking for a fresh start in the new content. But what about the people who didn't buy the expansion?
Kaiza of Dunemaul complains on the forums about how Burning Crusade seems to be mandatory, and relates her experiences of trying to PVP without the expansion. She suggests that Blizzard create a 60-only bracket where people who don't buy the expansion can compete as, essentially, twinks. Her hostile tone makes her few friends, and most posters seem to have the same question I do -- if you love WoW, why the heck wouldn't you buy the expansion? The people I know who haven't bought it are either trying to quit WoW or had to wait for their boyfriend/girlfriend to get it too. As for the PVP brackets, I agree with Topspin, who says, "Look at it this way. People paid 40 dollars so they could whip up on people who decided to be cheap."
Do you know anyone who's still playing WoW, but doesn't plan to buy the Burning Crusade? If so, why?

Another example of some twit who thinks the world should cater to their needs. This person didn't buy the expansion... that's not Blizzard's problem. Blizzard's goal is to make money, just like every other profit organization. They make more money by forcing people to buy the expansion. They won't make it easy for people who don't buy it. It's common sense. This person just needs to either get a job and/or do some chores the parents. Lazy people piss me off.

Yet another example would be someone who is an extremely casual player and may not have a level 60 character yet, or they are new to the game and have a character in the mid 20s, 30s, whatever. There really is no reason to buy the expansion right away if you have no desire to play a BE or Dranei, and you have not hit level 60.
However, if you DO have a level 60, I really don't understand why you wouldn't buy the expansion unless you are just tired of the game.

I haven't bought it yet either - but I've only been playing for a few months now, and my main is only level 54 - so I have 4 more levels before I need BC up and running (I play Hoard, and I really don't feel like playing a Blood Elf - too damned cutsey for my taste).

I did not buy the Xpac because I am not to 58 on my main and not even close on my alts. I have a 48 NE rogue as my main and I plan on buying TBC when I get to 55 or 56. Why, A) I dont plan on rolling any new toons for a while. B) If Im not 58 why get it, the content that Im seeiing is not going to change all that much, C) Jewelcrafting is not getting me excited except for the loot I made buying stuff months ago and selling it for 200% more on AH last Wed.
Whining that you cant get the content if your 60 is very lame. If your 60 why wouldnt you want to get the insane gear in Outlands.

Since I don't have any level 60 characters yet, I won't be buying it at the moment. I see one thing that might force it is if in all the non-BC areas if people won't group the highest instances with 60's, insisting on higher levels.
Swiftlydead Jan 22nd 2007 12:40PM
I see this person's point. They need to make BG's 51-60 again like they used to be, since there wont be much difference.
Parvin Jan 22nd 2007 12:46PM
I didn't buy it "yet". I have a difficult semester and since my toons are level 60 in order to start playing again I would have to get BC. I will definitely buy it in May after i take my MCAT and my school semester is over. Summer holidays here I come.
Until then I can honestly say I haven't caved in.
Clementure Jan 22nd 2007 12:44PM
Darn – I was hoping to be the only one who thought of going to 60.9 in the BC, twinking the gear, then running the battlegrounds.

I didn't buy the expansion either, but for 2 reasons:
1)none of my character's are level 60 yet
2)Walmart was sold out when I went there with my $30 gift card.
I'll pick it up eventually.

The problem is not the expansion itself, the problem is the item-inflation. It's idiotic that green helmets for lvl 60-62 have gotten the same stats as the lvl 60 shaman epic helmet.
The itemization was a problem in the past already and just got worse with the expansion.
Items for higher levels have to be stronger, no question. But it has to be a reasonable. Introducing 1-handed tbc weapons that easily outdamage pre-tbc 2-handers is just stupid, especially when they have the same (or nearly the same) lvl requirements.

Why haven't I bought it yet?
I just started playing less than a month ago.
I'm at about lvl 25, and I want to experience everything in the original game before I jump into BC.

Actually, Blizzard should consider catering to this person and people like her. While the purchase of the expansion is good money, the real money lies in the monthly fee. They should keep people with the game happy. They should just adjust the 50 group to run from 51 to 60, then the next group be 61 to 70.
I think the temptation to level higher than 60 will hit eventually for people like this.

call it idiotic, call it stupid, call it whatever you want tbh...
the fact is they made items this powerfull on purpose and, in my honest opinion, it's an extremely efficient Marketing Strategy from Blizzard... i can tell you about 20ish cases of people that were not buying TBC and, as soon as they saw a few of the green items, they were crying about it being sold out.
we have to keep in mind that Blizzard is a Company and, therefore, has to have proffit in order to stay up. you should expect that not buying TBC will "Nerf" you and your capabilities very fast because it's Blizzard's interest to put those TBC copies out there.

I haven't bought it either. I have several 60's, but I don't feel like continue playing those in the outlands. What I have seen when I watched a friend play in the Outlands doesn't realy appeal to me. Being the rare player that doesn't have the expansion isn't very appealing either, so when my game time runs out I will be taking a break for a while.
hamsammich Jan 22nd 2007 1:11PM
Most of the people in my guild who don't have the expansion yet are mostly younger players (i.e., still living with parents, and those parents buy all the "stuff", including WoW).
Most everybody else I know has bought the expansion, and I'm not sure why one wouldn't. I mean, it's $40 minimum, and if you can't afford that, then how can you afford the $14.99 every month? I can't afford a lot of things, but hey, I don't eat out for a few days and that more than makes up for the price of the expansion.
Walt Jan 22nd 2007 1:25PM
I don't need a new game; I haven't used up the old one. I've got seven characters leveling up thru the 20's; it'll be a long time before I need high-level challenges. Yes, one of my guys plans to drop skinning one day and take up jewel crafting, but that market can't stabilize until there's a lot of socketed items out there.
No software install is as fun as actually playing, so why bother? With Blizz constantly suggesting we disable all add-ons, there's little hope an install would un-cripple my favorite Cosmos features, is there? Probably make things worse.
Lots of folk neede this expansion, and I'm happy for them. But I didn't. Yet.
kito1 Jan 23rd 2007 1:48PM
can i just ask why do we have to ceep geting add-ons i meen when i do i dont reely see much of a difrence

I plan on buying TBC eventually, but not until I have first milked the existing Azeroth for everything it has to offer. This means finishing every available quest in every zone, and being decked out in full T3 gear. I'm sure there are a lot of people who, as soon as they hit level 60, will immediately dash off to the Outlands and probably bypass most of the 40-man raids. To me, this is idiotic. That content is there for a reason. You get to fully experience the lore involved with the content, plus it makes it a much easier time leveling up through Outlands when you finally do get to that point. So while I certainly do plan on experiencing TBC down the line, it won't be until I have seen and done everything that the pre-BC Azeroth has to offer.

I hope this is not off topic. My wife and I are REALLY close to hitting the levels needed for outland, but her and I do NOT see the same type of quality from what we have seen in the new lands, as far as scenery, landscape, and the little things that make this game so immersive. We WILL be buying the game EVENTUALLY, but from screenshots and guildmates experiences so far, we are in no rush. We both hope we are wrong when we get it though.
Brad Jan 22nd 2007 1:51PM
@ Migi,
Hellfire Penninsula is indeed an ugly looking zone. By Design I think. Trust me though, the stuff beyond it is unreal. Zagramarsh looks just awesome. Shattra City is very cool. The forest zones are very pretty as well.
Don't let HF keep you from picking up TBC. You would be missing out on so much if you did that.
