Around Azeroth: Looking inside Stormwind City

Reader Narrone sends in this... unusual shot of Stormwind City. I've seen some unusual rendering glitches before but haven't encountered this one. And apparently a certain spot in the Stormwind trade district showed him this -- picking and choosing interesting bits of landscape above and below the city to display.

You can get the same thing to happen near the innkeeper/bank when coming to trade district from the western entrance. Happens to me all the time and I end up hitting a box every time.
And what's this...A gallery you say?

From what I have read, this is why flying mounts are not available in Azeroth. Everything is programmed to be seen from just in front unless it's a building you fly over, in which case they've built in a roof and whatnot.

I think the problem here is that the "camera" is inside a solid object. For efficient rendering, usually only one side of any given surface is actually viewable. Everything else that isn't showing up has probably been instructed not to render because there's a solid object between them and that also saves time.
I'm sure there are surfaces that would have to be touched up to make flying mounts useable in mainland Azeroth, but I think the bigger problem is consistent scale. Some areas that look really small on the map are really big once you get inside and certain zones seem to match to other zones in really odd ways. Right now, it's not an issue 'cause things are only accessible along very specific paths. Things would get funky if we were given full reign of the land.

I once fell down STV and came beneath it. I literally swam under everything, but.... I could attack anything. Hilarity: Ganking alliance from beneath, and they cant attack back, because they dont know where you are, dont have ranged attacks and are just too confused.
too bad I had to go to ZG that day, so I had to go there (had to die by falling (using logout), then spirit rez.
I want to return there! But I never pulled it off again (I let the server disconnect me, and somehow got under it)
