Warlock DPS calculator
Ybrith, of Rajaxx (Eu), has put together a lovely piece of theorycrafting apparatus. This warlock DPS calculator takes your stats and talent information, the length of the fights you're interested in, and a few strategy parameters, and comes up with your DPS over the length of the fight, as well as how fast you would be losing life. It seems to be geared towards the end-game, as it's based on level 70 spells and also not suited for calculating things like mana efficiency, which is important in leveling.Still, for a number-head like me this thing is amazing. I've learned that with the default stats (since I have no clue what a warlock's gear is like at 70), my current leveling build (41/20/0) would do 1035 DPS, whereas sample Destro builds I threw together get 1190 (0/21/40) or 1174 (21/0/40) DPS. It's interesting to me that Aff and Destro are so close; I don't think this would have been the case pre-BC.
So, Warlocks in the crowd: what do you think? Does this thing look relatively accurate? And how do you stack up?

Nerf Locks

That line is getting pretty tired.
As for me, I'm appreciative of Affliction's newfound DPS. It relieves a lot of load from healers when they don't have to worry about fueling the Warlock mana bar. (Not that they had to before, but you know how some healers are.) And what's good news for healers is good news for everybody.

Can his calculator handle a DPS value of NINE THOUSAAAAND! ??
Seriously - have we developed complex math that can deal with true Warlock DPS numbers? DPS of a googleplex was so last patch...

Like every other damage calculator, this one doesn't account for pet damage. Depending on your build, the Succy can add 1/3 to your damage total.
And...
Nerf Nerfers!

After playing with it for a few minutes, it seems that Demonology is actually pretty competitive as well. With 7/40/14 and a conservative 200 extra +damage from Demonic Knowledge I come up with 1321 DPS while healer supported and 1191 DPS with no healing. It'a a little off because the build only has four points in Devestation and the calculator assumes five points.
With a Felguard instead of a Succubus it's 1277 supported and 1140 when not. It would probably be a bit higher since the Felguard provides a little more of a Demonic Knowledge boost, plus you can add its damage on top of that.
I think I'll be looking into speccing Demo or at least recalculating once I get some more concrete stats to dump into this thing.

Ammendment: I actually mistakenly took Cataclysm instead of Devastation in the Succubus numbers. Should be 1365 with healing and 1215 without.
I'm sure someone else can come up with some even better numbers.

My first toon, which is also my main, is a lock and from what I can tell the DPS across the talent trees is pretty even. They all have little benefits and drawbacks but those are all pretty situational (is that a word? it is now).

thats complete shite, why in gods name has demonology been excluded from this?
I am a demonology warlock 5/41/11 (at level 66) and i output more damage than my destruction warlock counterpart in instances.

I'm so tired of the nerf locks comment. Instead of crying and saying locks are too overpowers JUST because you can't beat them, how about changing your strategy to a way that you can beat them. Or better yet, if you have no good way of fighting a lock... DON'T FIGHT A LOCK if you don't have to. Rogues are great lock killers since they can stun lock. Hunters are good too since their pets can help interupt spell casting. Personally I never pick a fight with a hunter or a rogue unless I have to.
By the way, locks got a substantial nerf a few patches back that was undocumented in the patch notes. And if you check some warlock forums there is talk of another undocumented nerf included in 2.0.6 that supposedly reduces the damage done by drain life and siphon life. So you already got your puny little wish. Chances are though, if you couldn't beat a lock before, you still won't be able to beat one now, simply because you obviously have no skill at playing this game.
Anyway, as to the calculator. I am right now lvl 63, but I put in stats I would expect to see at lvl 70, and it seems low to me, lower than my current DPS. Maybe I just did something wrong.
