AddOn Spotlight: Totemus
TOTEMS! Yes, I'm the quintessential WoW Switcher. Vlambaard is sitting on a shelf, gathering dust, decked out in Judgement gear with his Herald of Woe. In his place, Wyahld has leveled like a madman, busting out totems and frostshocks all over the place.
In my eternal quest for better living in the World (of Warcraft), I came across Totemus, a UI mod for shaman in the spirit of Necrosis. As you can see in the illustration above, Totemus is essentially a big round button, with some little round buttons surrounding it.
Let's break it down, so you can see how it'll be of use to you.
It's pretty darn configurable, so I'll just reference my installation, and let you rock your own from there.
The information displayed on the center button is configurable. The metered bar around it could be a graphical display of your health, while the numerical display is your percent and amount of mana. These are reversible in the settings. The button itself has a variety of selectable actions, depending on your preference - I have mine set up to switch me in and out of Ghost Wolf form.
The top button auto-detects your potions. Left-click for a health-pot, right click for a mana pot. The button to the right of that auto-detects food in your bags, left click for food, right click for drink.
Next up, moving clock-wise is your weapon buff button. Click it to cast the shown weapon buff. Click it again to cast on your second weapon (if you're a dual-wielding monster of destruction). Right-click to expand and select a new weapon buff.
The two buttons in the bottom-right area of the wheel are your Action buttons. These two buttons are completely configurable through the settings menu, so you can select both a left and right click for them. I'm a fan of remove poison and cure disease for these slots.
The bottom button is your mount/hearthstone button, and it does just that.
Each individual button for the totems (those 4 on the left) lets you click to drop the displayed totem, middle-click to drop the last totem you dropped before the current choice, and right click will expand the button showing all totems of that type (Earth, Fire, Wind, Water).
On top of the wheel, Totemus also includes totem timers, in the form of a short bar with 4 icons. As you drop totems, the totem icon is shown in that element's location, with a countdown timer underneath it. Great for seeing when your Strength of Earth is going to expire.
The only downside of Totemus, for me, is that the primary actions of each button aren't bindable to keys. I'd love to be able to set my totems to Alt-1 through Alt-4. As it is, I've had to setup another Bongos bar for this action, almost negating the benefits of the built-in Totem control of Totemus.
Still, as a new shaman it's hard to NOT recommend this mod. If you, like me, found totems a bit overwhelming at first, and lamenting at the lack of action bar buttons to place all your weapon buffs and tons of totems, then you'll really appreciate what this simple mod can do for you.

I've been looking for something like this and Call of the Elements just didn't cut it for me. I'll try it tonight, thank you.

Thanks!

Honestly, I gave Totemus a try and got frustrated with the bust out menus and the circular design. I've switched to YATA (Yet Another Totem Assistant) found here.
What's nice about this is it sits just under my character quite nicely and I've got access to my four most-used totems (one from each totem line) at the tips of my fingers. Then, if I want to drop a Stoneclaw or Grounding, I just mouse-over and click. Right clicking casts Totemic Call, Alt+clicking a totem drops a Rank 1 totem. It comes with a stomper macro which I don't often use, but I did create a macro that is along the lines of "/yata totemsets edit", which opens a nicely made editor on the bar itself for hiding and showing totems (great for selectively showing the hundreds of resistance totems). With this editor, it's easy to create a couple of "totem sets", or a different bar customized to each shamanistic capacity (i.e. healing bar, tanking bar, buffing bar).
Very pleased with it.

There is also a Hunter version of this same UI it is called : Venantes.
It has allowed me to get rid of all the aspect, trap and pet add-ons, plus more info.
I'm not sure it is at curse-gaming, but you can find it ui.worldofwar.net

There are several variations on the Necrosis theme.
Totemus of course
Venantes is for hunters which I recommend highly if you are one.
Serenity is the priest version, which Ive heard good things about.
Cryolysis is the mage version.
Holy Hope is the Paladin version (which I personally wasnt happy with).
Hope this helps.

I also tried Totemus. I love the look of this mod. It reminded me of Necrosis which I use for Warlock. But I also didn't like the fact that you can't bind the keys. I also didn't like that I couldn't control what foods/waters/potions/etc. would show up. I like to finish using one type of food before going to the next one because each slot in you bag is valuable. I would end up with 4 different kinds of food each giving the same health, each taking up a slot with only 2 pieces of each.
The mod I'm using now is Call of Elements. I'll give Yata a try, but I would like to have a mod that I could keybind totems, and then have drop down menus like Call of Elements so I can have more screen real estate. I just got Call of Elements, so we will see how that works.

I have to say, I really dig the expanding/collapsable button concept thing. Is there an add-on that does this sort of thing in a more general sense?

Sadly Serenity is currently no more, though the mod author(s) responsible for Necrosis and Cryolysis pledged to work on it when they finished the above two. I think Totemus and Venantes are offshoots of the two as well. Still, I love the minimalistic nature of these mods. Means more buttons for other things.

I'd love to see a Druid version of the mod, there is so much that could be done with it.
Every class could use one really...
Rogues - Manage cooldowns, reagents
Druids - Manage shapeshifts, reagents, some cooldowns
Warrior - Stances, item sets

It's one drawback is that it has not been updated to pick up the new BC water and foodstuffs.
