Around Azeroth: A mysterious crpyt...

Reader Hulik of Perenolde sends in this shot featuring a dead king entombed in a crypt located in the Badlands (southeast of Hammertoe's digsite, at the top of a hill). The place has some odd features -- like those very Greek-looking vases and the king's odd sword -- that I can't recall seeing elsewhere in the world, which does make me wonder about the place. Hulik speculates that the setting is a tribute to Conan (the barbarian, not the late night talk show host), though I can't seem to find any confirming photographic evidence. If you know of any, be sure to drop us a note in the comments!

I can't find any screens of the movie, but I know the scene. It's after Conan escapes and runs away from the hunting dogs. He falls down into a ancient grave, where he finds his sword, in much the same way this picture is. (This is from Conan: The Barbarian, 1982)

Conan thought that he had found the tomb of Cromm. I made the Conan connection the first time I found this, which was quite by accident. You have to stumble on this place, which makes me wonder how many area in Azeroth and the Outlands are like this tomb.

This crypt freaked me out so much when I found it. I kept asking on vent if there was something bad down there and my guildies were teasing me mercilessly. It's super creepy in there!

The sword looks like a re-skinned Blade of the Basilisk.

It looks like a Dark Iron throneroom. Given the greek-esque architecture, it's probably dating to the days of the Titans, since that's their building-style and that the Dwarves (or maybe Earthen in this case) abandoned that architecture a long time ago.

It is straight from Conan, but is was much worse in the book than in the movie - in the book he is chased by the wolves for days and hides out in the cave mouth - but lack of food drives him into the dark cave without any light - He stumbles upon the dead king and sword - thats the sword and a few other things - finds a torch and such ... They the long dead king gets very cranky about Conan stealing and comes to life - but Conan wins and leaves the cave to face the wolves... He hates the undead/magical stuff more than mere wolves - I'll stop now, as most of you are lol'ing at this Conan geek (I have around 54 Conan books)...

The scene in the movie is taken from the L.Sprague DeCamp and Lin Carter Conan story The Thing in the Crypt.

This is why so many problems in the game go un-fixed, they spend all their time adding easter eggs.
Jenet Feb 5th 2007 8:25AM
That's been in since Wow 1.0 So... sorry no, they don't add Easter eggs before doing bug fixes.

@Oldbear

I think you are missing the point. Sure this one, and many others, have been in there since 1.0. But look how many other easter eggs have been added while things that have been broken since 1.0 remain unfixed? Look at the expansion, they delayed it for more time to perfect it, but its still filled with bugs. They should have spent less time creating easter eggs and more time ensuring instance encounters are working properly. I'm all for the easter eggs, i think some are even funny and simple, like the Thrallmar innkeeper Floyd Pinkus. But I think they should focus on the quality a little bit more instead of creating areas of the game that are completely useless.

"Speculates"????? You're kidding right. You don't need photographic proof. That is an allusion to Krom's tomb in Conan the Barbarian where Conan first gets his sword. How could you not know that? "Speculates"... HAH
