Breakfast Topic: Outlands at 58?
Currently, the lowest level at which you can pass through the Dark Portal and go to Outlands is 58 (although it is possible to be summoned or portaled to Outlands at any level). However, is it better to go straight for the portal when you hit 58, or are the quests going to be too hard, and would it then behoove one to wait until 60? Personally, I'll be taking all my alts in when/if they get high enough, because the quest rewards are just overwhelmingly good. Aeus agrees with me:- Outland would be your ticket there... did it with one of my alts; best thing I ever did..

No point in staying in Azeroth til 60, no point at all. Gear wise, the blues from the old instances are complete garbage compared to green quest rewards in Outland; the only thing I'd be a little bit weary of is having to stay in Hellfire for 3-4 levels (all other zones are too dangerous at lv58).

BTW... I don't find it too hard to solo in Outland either (didn't at first as well)... Just have to take your time, make sure you're band-aid spec'd and have plenty of food. Warriors aren't THAT poorly setup of a toon!
Also... I've NEVER been through a raid at all, so I don't have ANY gear from them to help me into the new stuff...

Warrior:
My def-specced Lv60 warrior had a bit of a tough time questing solo in the outlands - one mob, no problem; two mobs, hmm; three mobs cost me a health potion.
With the other characters: No problem at all (shadow priest 59, hunter 60, warlock 60). Actually, many of the mobs around Honor Hold are only 58-59.
So while warriors [especially if they, like me, are too stingy to respec] may want to take along a friend for healing and/or damage. Any other class should be able to handle those first couple of dozen demon boars and orcs with ease.
The items and loot dropped in Outlands are, by the way, MUCH better than anything you'll find while farming the old world -- so basically my advice would be to move to Outlands, and cancel most quests from the old world, the very moment you hit 58.

i am at level 55 (troll shaman) i had a friend summon me to outland, in just 30 min of grinding i got halfway to 56 it is so much easier to level in outland, cant use the items but leveling is very nice

I crossed over the moment Deadr hit 58. He is an undead priest and had no problem fighting.
I found the quests to be so abundant and quick that I leveled through level 59 in under 4 hours of playing time. I gained gear through those quests that put me on par with MC gear by the time I hit 60, instead of raiding for months as a 60, which was a sweet bonus.
Approaching level 62 now, There isn't anything under level 65 that I would think twice about going after one-on-one.
My fury warrior, Gitr, is having a bit more difficulty, but I have not spent as much time with him to get the gear quest rewards that Deadr has.
Don't waste your time in WP/EP or Silithus any longer, as nothing in the immediate starting area of Hellfire Peninsula is more difficult that staying alive in certain areas of EP, and the quests are much more readily available and include expansion-grade rewards.

I went through at 58. I died a few times - mostly at the hands of those damn pigs. But as I started to get BC gear, the dieing happened less and less. I'm 59 now and in the time it took to get here, I'm pretty comfortable in Outlands. Waiting it just dumb.

When BC came out, my alt-of-choice, a rogue, was level 58. And I went through the portal without looking back. You can't grab all of the quests in Hellfire at that level, but you can pick up enough to get your levels, and none of them are too daunting. And the quest rewards and green drops are simply so superior to what you'll find on Azeroth that it seems a waste to spend your time anywhere else.

I rolled my main, a pally, in Oct. 2005. I never could seem to get the bugger too far too fast- between taking a break and having the infamous alt-fever, I was at 55 when the expansion released. I found out the entrance level was 58, not 55, and I ran over to Silithus and did whatever I could THERE at 55. Then, as soon as I dinged 58 (I mere 2 days later, amazing progress for me) I ran to IF, trained, and got my booty in the portal.
One day later I was 60. I leveled from 55-60 in 3 days, only playing about 15 hours. The quests in outlands are easy (maybe I had an advantage as you start off fighting nothing but demons :D) but the rewards for getting out there- monetary, gear, and experience- are well worth it. Sure, I missed out on Winterspring or whatever it's called, as well as most of Silithus, but my gear rocks HARD. And I'm well on my way to my epic mount too, and I used to NEVER have any gold.

then those wariors suck and need to reroll, i went there at 58 still in some level 40 gear and did just fine.

Paul and I hit outlands at 58 with our shaman. The only problem is that we're behind the exp curve now. We ran out of quests in Hellfire Penninsula before we hit 61, so now the quests that are 63-65 are way too hard. I would suggest doing a little more of the Azeroth grind, maybe to 59 instead. That way you'll be able to progress more smoothely past Hellfire. Of course, if you have a supportive guild, you can always run the two instances a bunch of times for a quick exp boost.

I am levelling up my first character in wow. Currently I'm at 48 and doing about 2 levels per week, so outland is not so far away. I am of two minds about this. On the one hand, the new gear sounds great and the outland is where just about all the other 58+ players are, so I will probably head there. On the other hand, I have seen none of the pre-expansion high level content. Much of it I'm not likely to see either, due to lack of interest in being able to put together a 40 man raid or simply due to high time demands required of attunement in some cases.
However, I do enjoy interesting content, experiences, views and sightseeing. Therefore, I ask of you and your commenters, the following. What high level content in azeroth should I or any other reletive n00b see and experience before heading to the outland? I am looking simply for cool sights or events that simply should not be missed. Please emphasis things that can be soloed or done with a 5-man party.
I think that this would also be a good breakfast topic in and of itself. Please consider it.

I went to the Outlands when it hit on my warrior. I spent most of my time soloing to 60 - with the exception of grouping with my druid husband sometimes. He and I went through the portal together and tore through the quests, excited about the great quest rewards (both xp and equipment).
While we grouped for most all of our quests through 62, I have since been soloing my warrior in Zangarmarsh. Only on rare occasions do I group. My warr is predominantly Arms specced, and I work at my own pace. I keep plenty of food and bandages to cut downtime. She is now well into level 64 and ready to explore another zone...
I guess what I am saying is that a warrior can solo, depending on how they are specced and what they consider an acceptable pace.

I went as a 58 shadowpriest. This is my main. I hadn't exhausted the azeroth quests, but I get tired of zones pretty easily if it has quest gaps where you need to grind out two levels before you can keep doing quests in the area (ahem wpl. Seriously, a 50-55 zone and you can do half the stuff at 50, then you have to get to 55 before you can do the rest, there's little continuity)
It was a blast, I think I probably set a record time for levels 58 to 60, it must have taken me no more than 4 hours. There are some quests that are too hard, but you'll be 60 quick enough that you can do them. I just did every quest I could find, and left it if I died more than twice. Sure I payed about 50g in repair bills (but I still made about another 50g left over) but the xp is crazy.
I say you should go the moment you ding 58 with any class (except maybe you sadists with holy priests, although the 58-60 orcs are easier than 58-60 mobs in epl, etc...) You'll completely replace most of your gear in the first few hours. It's fun. GO!
steve Feb 8th 2007 11:44AM
I went there with my 58 mage alt, equipped with AH greens and ZF/Mara/ST gear. I would absolutely recommend it -- most of the early HH quests give gear as quest rewards, so you'll replace everything very quickly, and with 1000+ rested XP per kill and many 10,000+ XP rewards for quests, even with the ineligible quests, you'll hit 60 very quickly and have gear better than the Tier 0 or Tier 0.5 dungeon sets.
The bigger aggro radius is annoying with the helboars, but you just have to pay attention.
I did experience the same thing @27 mentioned -- I ran out of eligible quests at level 60 in Hellfire Peninsula. Zangamarsh is a short ride away and has a bunch of level 60 quests there, so I would recommend just moving on to Zangamarsh instead of continuing to grind in the peninsula.

I'm an alt-aholic, so when I finally got my priest up to 58, I abandoned the world of Azeroth... Best thing I ever did.
The xp payoff is much greater for the same amount of effort. I've upgraded equipment I've had for months. I'm actually on par with much higher level people now, and the quests eventually scale with me. I figure, I'll hit 60 faster than I would on the other side... though I would have liked to run some of the other instances (never did DM)

I took my level 58 hunter to Outlands as soon as I dinged. Four hours of soloing later, she is now 60. Most of the time, I was doing the South Park method of leveling, killing boars.
When I did do the quests, I loved the amounts of xp and the much needed armor upgrades. (She was wearing greens that ranged from late 40's to mid 50's)
So I say to all level 58's out there, what are you still doing in Azeroth? Come to Outland, just beware of Fel Reavers. ^^
Jane Feb 8th 2007 12:56PM
I am Balance/Resto Druid, went over at 58 with a 58 warrior. In less than a couple of weeks I have just hit 61. Did several quests solo no problem. All that is left in Azeroth are Dungeon's so when there are times when it is only one or two of you, Outlands is the place to go.
Geo Feb 8th 2007 2:31PM
Run to Outland and never worry about spending hours upon hours killing Timbermaws and killing undead in the plague lands for those fussy Argent Dawn folks EVER again.
Rich Feb 8th 2007 4:05PM
I went across at 60 with my Lock. No blues. All greens. No high end instance gear at all. I died alot between 60 and 60.5. Once I got the gear, dying happened less and less and now I got no fear of 1 or 2 mobs 2 or 3 levels higher than me.
For new new toons going across it will be hard to do solo, regardless of class. Those that had tier armor and other pvp/instance rewards will have an easier time, but it all levels out pretty quick.
Jake Feb 8th 2007 4:44PM
I took my undead warlock to Outlands at 58. I made 60 four hours later. Nuff said.
If you are too scared to goto Outlands until you are level 60, you are a wuss.
