Reader WoWspace of the Week: January 31 - February 6
Reader Scott chimes in with a very interesting WoWspace this week:
He says:
:-) this is a nice idea, anyhow this was my wow space from aroudn March of last year, so I reckon it still counts. I played many an hour of Wow from this desk.
.
I worked for a protection company in Baghdad in the red zone, as their head of IT, so this was my personal space where I spelt and where I played when I could.
From Baghdad connecting to the EU servers wasn't really a problem, I often had better pings when there than when I accessed WoW in Germany.
My station was a Ferrari 3200 which wasn't that bad, and of course the web cam for skyping the wife each night. against the desk were the rifles we had to lug around with us, and the pistol as a personal side arm.
So keep sending in photos and words about your WoWspace. We'll post one a week in the order we get them, and remember to include plenty of description and let us know what you'd like to improve on. Send those in to "readerwowspace at gmail dot com" (replacing the at and dot, of course.)

Brudus Feb 8th 2007 5:39PM
Just pretend the terrorist just ninjaed your purplz. Well be out of there in a week.
Zuuler Feb 8th 2007 11:58AM
Notice, he said he worked for a protection company, not for the military.
Taxes... no, just someone elses hard earned (exploited maybe) money.
Nerf Iraq.
Elomeno Feb 8th 2007 12:15PM
I believe that the government contracts out to some of these private security companies. That may not be the case here, but just because it's private doesn't mean our taxes aren't helping pay them.
BTW. Don't tick Scott off in PvP. It could be hazardous to his neighbors.

Not neccesarily, US hires mercs all the time. In many cases professionals are better than enlisted soldiers.

HAhahah, I read this and WoW you guys got it pretty close..
The guy who sent that in is either an Aussie or Britian plus he stated he connected to EU server. Ok heres the Deal I myself am a U.S. Soldier. Just got back about a yr ago and my platoon and I started playing WoW over there we connected to US server side and joined Kil'Jaeden. yeah lag was an issue but after our patrols it got us away from the combat life for a few hrs.
OK # 3: Yes US does contract some Merc's and yeah some are a tad more professional then some soldies just like kids in a class room some are good some are not.. I had some good friends that worked with me that were from Black Water or Siris. But we had some that were way out of line and unprofessional at the cost of innocent lifes before our eyes and our check points cameras. Well I am glad to say they are still put away... All I have to say is that dont send in a cat to do a dogs job. Let the Military do what we need to do!
I will post my Pictures of our base and some of our Soldiers playing WoW in there rooms!
THX guys for your Support!!!
O yeah I am a Full combat Arms U.S. Infantry Grunt!! HOOOAhhh Airborne!!!!

Well some got it right, I am a Brit and I did work with a Protection company in Baghdad in the Mansour district ( Red Zone) for a year or so. As a protection company we had multiple contracts, some for the Oil pipeline security from the Iraqi Government, and some for the VIP protection of the US Army to relieve the mundane personnel protection from the US troops. All in all a load of fun though :-)

[SOMEWHERE NEAR BAGDAD…]
[…COVERT INSURGENT STAGING AREA….]
{the following is and intercepted transmission translated from Arabic}
Speaker 1: “Our freedom-fighters are in position.”
Speaker 2: “OK, we’ve identified the names of the American Pigs and we will invite them into the raid soon.”
Speaker1: “Make sure it pre-occupies their forces for a long time.”
Speaker2: “Don’t worry, there is what they call phat lootz in this instance…it’s from the evil capitalist ideals…it’s hard to explain. This should keep them here for 6 hours or more, God willing.
Speaker1: Praise be to the Lord! We have them now!
Speaker2: *sniker* God is Great!

Thank you for all that you do! Reguardless of what anyone thinks about the war in iraq, we should all support you guys. You guys are the ones out there risking your lives so I want to thank you, for all that you do

@ 11 & 14
What in the name of Elune are you talking about??? These guys play video games in the middle of a war zone!!! Lolz!
Seriously though. If your CO knew that you would all be in the brig proly. heh I mean, I would be pissed off if you were in my team. Shouldn’t you be studying manuals or language, etc. and rehearsing tactics in your “spare time”. I mean…there is no real “spare time” anyway when you’re talking about war and survival. When there is virtually an infinite amount of ways to eliminate and subdue the enemy, as well as survive and help your mates, I don’t see how you can play video games and brag about it. I mean if you can’t take the stress, go to the shrink or transfer out of combat. It’s not for everyone. You would be endangering yourself, your friends, and “the mission” altogther.
Roguerhunter Feb 9th 2007 12:48PM
LOL HA HA whats up #15, yeah I know where your talking about! I patroled all around that area, Al Dora, Hifa Street, Karada area the power plants etc.. Also we were part of the 3rd I.D. and took control of all the check points in the Red Zone so I am sure I came across you or your Team in your cool niffty Armored SUV's LOL... Over all we all got along well its just that No ones gona die on my time if I can help it.. ya know what I meaan Mate!!
O yeah as to #16, Look we been in the Military for Years ok myself 11yrs total. Also you dont just get placed in war just like that. You train at your unit before hand months, yrs training for this moment ok when for us we had months on end worth of training with my same Teams, Squads, platoon etc... Once on the ground in a war zone you train yes on your speare time but in combat you sometimes dont have that time your going over cars to look out for, insurgents, plan work shifts, patrols you look at 18hr shifts and sometimes 2 days straight and rotate sleeping when you cound due to missions... When you finally did have 12hrs off if not on QRF "Quick Reaction Force duty" then that was your down time. We send our guys to either get some sleep, go to the store get some food, e-mail family back home but almost everyone had a laptop like I did and we played WoW at times. sometimes 2 hrs then we sleep till shift came up.. We didnt play everyday but when possible took me a yr to reach 60 because of lack of time to play. So there goes your answer... If you were to join the Military you understand.
Gitr Feb 9th 2007 12:18PM
Thank you for your service.

Seriously, what do assault weapons have to do with WoW space. And what does an IT guy who works for a "protection company" have to do with said weapons. Maybe save it for "People who work for companies that get fat no-bid contracts and nice paychecks while non-coms sit in hot humvees and dodge IEDS and get to eat bugs at Walter Reed". For Shame.
