Ask WoW Insider: Aldor or Scryer?
We've explored the topic of the Aldors and the Scryers before, but reader Tetelestia gives us a great excuse to revisit this question of faction allegiance again now that we've had some time to spend in Burning Crusade. For this week's Ask WoW Insider, Tetelestia writes "I primarily play a horde character, and I want to make the best choice of allegiance for the quest in Shattrath city. As a noob coming up on my first character, I made the grave mistake of 'fighting' my way through to Winterspring. Mistake. I'd like to avoid that in BC, so I'm looking for readers input on which allegiance they took and why, instead of me just guessing."So, which faction did you choose to (or plan to) ally yourself with, and why?
As ever, please don't forget to send us your questions for Ask WoW Insider to ask AT wowinsider DOT com. See you next week!

This isn't as big a deal as you think, you still have access to the upper lvl profession trainers no matter which side you choose, and even if you decide to remain neutral: no one said you HAVE to choose one or the other. Of course there are perqs limited to each side, but wasn't that so when you began your toon? You're doing fine w/ that right? And why would some of you base your decision on ONE recipe? Come on, wtf is that. As long as you have confidence that your character is as strong and capable as it can be what difference does it make; want to impress a bunch of 80s? The only thing I see that impresses 80s is what kind of ride you have as you hang out in the city square, and I don't play the game to ultimately hang out in the square on a Mekgineer's Chopper and act like I was never a noob as most of them do. You have no one to impress but yourself. If you can't get some armor or a recipe one side or the other offers you can always get something comparable from somewhere else later on.

how i chose...

Maybe its just me, but it seems like chosing between these 2 factions really isn't all that important as say choosing between bloodsail bucaneers and steamweedle cartel. Choosing bloodsail bucaneers has very few advantages, while choosing the cartel grants you access to 2 major travel hubs, as well as a majority of the quest givers for 2 other zones.
Aldors and Scryers just don't seem like that important, yet. I have been told there are flight paths in areas that you can only access via rep with one or the other but I don't remember where they are.
What was posted in 1 is the best advice, look at what is available to you through rep with each faction and make your decision. I went with scryers for one reason, an alchemy recipe. If it hadn't been for that, I would have had a much harder time deciding.
Also if you change your mind, there are quest givers in the lower city that offer repeatable quests to reverse your rep. I believe it lets you get back to neutral with that faction. After that I suppose its just doing their associated quests.

I used the same source. I am an Undead Priest and chose Aldor as a Shadow Spec because of the healing +dmg rather than MP5 +dmg.
My post on my decision is at: A Look at Aldor vs Scryer Allegiance Dilemmas
Thanks for collecting more opinions and information on the matter. We can all use more help.

I went with Scryers, which was an interesting choice. On Crushridge i see almost NO alliance on Scryer's Tier, yet my NE Rogue is there, because I am a dagger rogue through and through. There is no bones about this decsion as a rogue. There are TWO things that rogues can choose, A Weapon and a Shoulder Enchant. Aldor has a Sword and a stronger AP Shoulder Enchant. Scryer has an OH Dagger and a stronger Crit Shoulder Enchant. Thus I chose Scryer for my Assas Build (Mutilate atm, proly 31/0/30 eventually) where crit is important and daggers are necessary.

As a hunter, I chose aldor. Luckily, i'm an herbalist, and that one potion wasn't worth joining the scryers for.

70 mage.. Outland EU horde.. Aldor all the way!! :D

Lore. Neither faction had anything good for me anyway, so I went with Aldor for lore purposes.
1) They're Draenei, Draenei PRIESTS. They're the good guys out of the two.
2) They're not Blood Elves.
3) They don't like Blood Elves.

Thanks for finally getting this out there weeks after I asked. Not long after submitting this question I found the WoW wiki entry noted in post 1.
I chose the Aldor. Thanks

Aldor. As a cloth wearing priest tailor, I can get the thread to sew into my pants once I hit exalted (or revered, can't remember which). +51 to healing added to your pants. Nuff said.
Kingfox Feb 13th 2007 3:45PM
Went with Scryer. The exalted reward is nice, though we'll see if it lasts with raiding. The shoulder enchants for Aldor fit more into my spec, but hell.
I'm also glad that I've gone this way. One of my guildies is an old friend, and an undead warlock like myself. He sends me all of the Scryer stuff he finds, I send him all of the Aldor stuff, and we don't have to worry about finding a person to trade with or selling it.

I really can;t decide either. I'm a level 64 NE priest as a tailor/chanter for profs. I plan on going holy at 70...still dosn't make any choices eacier. Equipment wise, Scryers look better, seers staff looks better than the feral druid staff the aldor offer. But when i look at the tailoring bonuses, i see that Aldor really offer more there. Scryers look kooler, and are located in a more conveinent place, but there Blood Elves, ego centric evil things....So theres my dilema...guess i wasn't much he;p ^.^

Enchanters - if you do not want to keep having to go back to Uldaman (until you reach 300) choose Scryers!
The only Master Enchanter trainer outside Uldaman is a Scryer - so either train while you are Neutral with both or ally yourself with the Scryers.
No one told me this information so back to Uldaman (ever seen a lvl 61 cry?)

guy at Honor hold is master enchanter...

As a protection warrior I have avoided this choice and am now lvl 64 ... after reading this I had better check my rep. as too may have unknowingly effected my rep. as I currently use the Aldor Rise inn. WOW Wiki suggests I want to go Scryer, as I am a tank. Comparing the gear, it is a close call. Especially given how many times I have died by fire in my career. I guess I will probably go Scryer -- hard to take as I am a dwarf, not that the pony boys are any better -- but I suspect the differences btween gear are moot and it will still come down to how well you play your toon.

I am a 61 ele shaman with herb/alch, is the recipe worth it?
