Alliance learns to hate Paladins too
Halecusis posted a story on the forums yesterday that sounded like music to my ears. He didn't say anything new, really: he said that fighting a Paladin was annoying as get out in AV. Just when you think they're done, they pop that stupid shield, spam Flash of Light, and if reinforcements show up, it's all over. But what's new (and completely tasty) about his story is who it's coming from: Halecusis is a human Paladin. And he's writing about a Blood Elf Paladin.Ah, sweet revenge. Finally, you Alliance types will learn to curse those smarmy, tacky, and overdone Pally animations. In fact, this may bring the World closer together-- Horde or Alliance, we can all learn to hate Paladins like the annoying plate-wearing healers they are. Of course, Shammies are on both sides now as well, but those totems, while annoying, don't seem to inspire as much hate as that flashy Light stuff does.
And I wonder how having all the classes on both sides is changing battlegrounds as a whole. I haven't spent a lot of time in battlegrounds since the expansion hit (I'm trying to find time to get my Shammy up to 70), so I wonder how things are going. During the little time I spent in Eye of the Storm 61-69, Horde seemed to be wiping the floor with Ally, but in my experience on Thunderhorn, Horde wins at lower levels while Alliance always wins at the top levels, because with a higher realm population, more of them can get into the endgame and gear up well. But maybe Paladins had a bigger impact than I thought-- will even classes on both sides make for more Horde wins at 70? Your input on this is welcome below.
At any rate, it's been a long time coming, but I'm glad to see that Alliance is getting a taste of what we've been dealing with for so long. Paladins aren't by any means unbeatable-- wait for that shield's cooldown, then kite them around with a liberal dose of mana burning and/or spell interruption-- but they are really, really annoying.

So happy i could shed a tear. my first 60 was a warrior, i grew to hate pallys so much. but now my main is a 70 priest. warrior is at 65. but i still cant wait for the big population of BE pallys to get up to 70, there are a few here and there but not enough.

Can't take their own medicine, huh?
What is particularly sweet about that post is that it's from ANOTHER pally. One can understand the call for nerfing or a class complaint from another class, just as has been going on with horde vs. Pally the whole time, but from another pally...that's just funny.

When I heard the horde was getting pallies... This was the first thing I thought of. Makes me giggle.

The irony of it all is, the Horde celebrating this QQing shows that they are just as immature as the Alliance is, and it's a reason why I'm not rolling Whorde any time soon.

I'm happy that you have Paladins
You also have Blood Elfs
Do you know who Blood Elfs Look like?
Thats right. legolas.
Enjoy all the New Blood elfs and /1 spam.
Enjoy the solo dpsadin in BG's completely wasting a team spot.
Enjoy the massive increase in failing pugs.
And mostly, enjoy earthbind totem in WSG.

As a lv 60 BE pally, I love finding and wiping the floor with Alliance Shaman. There have been a couple instances were the shaman knew what he or she was doing, but for the most part, they spam totems and then keep trying to heal themselves. I'm a prot spec pally, too, so their dual-wielding doesn't do them much good.
kerni Feb 15th 2007 9:20PM
Wow Mike, it really seems to me that your comments contain a mix of ignorance and jealousy. LOL
As a proud Paladin I embrace the Blood Elf Pallys. It's a great thing for the game and will bring balance to PVE and PVP alike. For PvP, it will boil down to skill, gear and racial abilities.
As for the ever constant cries about bubble/heal. If we were able to output the damage a true DPS class could I'd be riding the bandwagon of crybabies myself but seeing as we've got decent damage output I wouldn't even consider it something to argue over.
Want some cheese with that whine?

That is priceless that another pally is griping about the BE pallies. I agree that paladins have annoying animations and powers, and on a male blood elf, they become just about the fruitiest thing in the game. I can only hope this begins a movement to get these guys a 'review' of their powers, because with that stupid bubble and heal, they essentially have double the hp of any other class in the game.
I wasn't thrilled with them when they were just Alliance. My lvl 60 warrior never had close to a chance of winning against my friend's level 60 pally. This is just so priceless.

@7 allies will always be far me more immature than horde. just happens that way. all the little kids (15 and below) want to be the good guys, and look pretty. This is one bad thing about BE, youger more immature people will probly roll a BE. I will (23) will always roll horde, less people questing, people seem to help out more, and i have found that age group to be alot higher and more mature... just my opinion.

More like gg Alliance, time to QQ more about OP racials. Go grind some rep while the dwarves and draenei PVP.
Deafdumbandblind Feb 15th 2007 11:41AM
#8 You speak crap.
I've got 3 Whorde chars and 8 Alliance.
Horde are every bit as immature as Alliance - worse luck.
Two words: Barrens chat. A bunch of dickheads bragging, making stupid comments, swearing, etc. = kids.
It's worse now and you know why? Blood elfs. I lolled so hard at that. All the kids want to be legolas so a whole bunch of them have gone across to Horde.
In your face, Schramm...heh

Most new BE's I see around were made without the blond hair, besides, at least we don't have a kneebiter race.
The /1 spam happens in just about every starting zone, including the Draenei starting zone.
From what I gather in BG's, if you're not DPSing, you're a waste of a space. What good are the traditional roles of a tank, when aggro generating tactics don't work on players. Just one big tank with a little gun wandering around a battlefield. On the other end of the paladin tree, healing tends to be useless in BGs as well, as an easier thing to do is die, then be resureted with full health/mana. DPS is where its at for BG's. And in AV where there are mobs that require a tank, any paladin/warrior can tank no matter what they are specced, maybe not as well, but enough to take down the bosses.
I have found paladins useful in instances. Combine a paladin with a shaman and a priest, and your priest never runs out of mana, which means he has more mana to heal me, which in turn I can turn hp into mana, which keeps my DPS going for extended periods of time. In fact the PUGs I did with paladins were much better and had a higher rate of success than without paladins.
And if you haven't guessed, I'm a warlock. Earthbind totem doesn't have too much of an effect on me since I have to stand still to cast most of my spells anyway. Earthbind totem also requires the shaman to get close enough to use it on me anyway. Totems also go down fast, unlike the paladins shield ability which lasts full duration no matter what.

We're allowed to be happy about this, maybe you just don't know how aggravating it is when you're a lvl 58 warlock trying to capture the PVP towers in EPL, only to be attacked by a lvl 60 pally wearing tier 2 gear. Then to almost win the fight only to have the pally use his shield and healing spells. Him being tier 2 meant that you used all your mana to almost kill him once, and now that he has full HP, its better off to just stand there and let him kill you and not make an attempt at killing him since hes already immune to fear because of diminishing returns.
Just like you have the right to be happy that we have to deal with earthbind totems.
So anyway, nice try at trying to turn our happiness around at us, and for attempting to justify why you won't play as a horde character. Truth is you're probably just afraid to play a character whos not so humanoid in appearance. Until then, go ahead and stay up there on your pulpit and pretend that being alliance somehow makes you better (which is the attitude that seems to prevail on the alliance side, which is why I won't roll alliance).
Beyond that, by your own statement, you are admitting the alliance itself is immature. So really, who were you attacking here?
Kabira-Fenris Feb 15th 2007 10:53AM
This is why I'm happy I never really got into PVP. The animosity I see between the two sides is just ridiculous, really.

That is about the least informed I have ever seen anyone in the history of WoW in relation to PvP.
Firstly, Healing is King - Good healers are what make a PvP team. Paladins are amazing combat healers as they have excellent defence, good utility spells and if specced properly, good healing.
Dps paladins on the other hand have just below average dps, above average burst damage and for the most part, crap utility as all they do is look for big numbers and heal themselves.
A Paladin focusing on DPS in BG's is a waste of a BG spot.
For the Record I have a Warlock (70) and Paladin (65).
Furthermore, 99% of warlocks have 2 instant cast spells and are infact the most mobile caster class. I don't even know what your talking about in relation to the Shamen getting close to you.. do you even know what WSG is? If you are talking about 1v1 PvP which by the sounds of things you are, then you are missing the point as PvP revolves around teams and groups and seldom around individuals.
I still can't believe you actually said Healing in BG's is a waste of time.
I don't have any problem what my character looks like and I have a 42 Undead Rogue. I play alliance because I played as an Imperial in SWG and wanted to switch around.
Besides, who said Horde were the bad guys?
CTDeLude Feb 15th 2007 2:16PM
PvP, been screwing this game and class "balance" since the beginning.
Felt this post was in somewhat bad taste. A little immature from what I've come to expect of WoW Insider.

If a warlock of lvl 58 tries to take down a better geared, and higher level paladin, that lock deserves to die. And I've yet to see Fear break on damage as many would assume. So, that renders that point moot.
As for the whole shaman deal, have you seen what's been going on in the WoW forums? Shaman are generally in the same position we were in patch 1.9. Shaman are shrugged off because of the weaknesses they've have with regards to their mana inefficiency, totems, and lack of CC abilities.
Deny it all you want, the Alliance got short changed in this exchange. I never believed Shaman were overpowered and until they get some buffs, it's not going to get any better.
Turning your happiness around at you? That's not happiness. That's Schadenfruede, taking pleasure in another's pain. And that seems to be the general attitude of a good number of Horde players I've met. Granted, not all are like that, but enough to know that unless you've got a gargantuan ego, you've no place in the Horde.
And don't forget, it was a Horde guild that tried to justify cheating in AQ40 when it got banned for hacking, just to skip the trash mobs.
