Breakfast topic: Race/class combinations you wish you could be
I've always wanted to be a druid. My very first character, played at night on a friend's account before I even understood that this was an MMORPG, was a night elf druid. And today, seeing that they can tank, DPS and heal, I want to be one even more.
Unfortunately, I'm a Hordie. My only option for a druid character is a tauren. The male tauren scratch themselves constantly, and the female tauren ... I'm just not a female tauren kind of person. That's why I really wish we could make Blood Elf druids. Sure, balance of nature and all that, but it's not exactly more ridiculous than them being paladins. The tauren-only thing is really limiting druid population Horde-side.
I asked my guildies and other random people what class/race combo they wish they could roll, and I heard:
- Tauren rogue, for the warstomp
- Orc priest
- Blood elf warrior
- Gnome priest
- Tauren mage
What race/class combo would you roll if it were only possible?

Undead Paladin. Blizzard's reasoning against this is that paladins are immune to the plague of undeath, but no one ever said a necromancer couldn't raise the corpse of a paladin. To me, this just makes sense, as undead are former humans/high elves and should have all the classes available to those races. And you can't use the reason "they lost control of the light when they died" because then that would eliminate undead priests. Bliz could have eliminated the whole paladin/shaman imbalance a long time ago with undead paladins/night elf shamans.

Man, if there were Belf druids, I'd go buy BC right now.

Gnome Druid.
Gnome Hunter.
Gnome Priest.
What can I say? I live the Gnomes. Elfs, humans, and dwarves are so overdone in the RPG world (I include Belfs in this), which is one reason I like playing Horde.
If a Gnome can be a warrior then why can't a Gnome be these other classes?

Orc Mages : I see no reason not to include them. It would be a nice twist from the more classic approach (Humans,Undead, gnomes and Elves). Maybe Blizzard could include some more "tribal" cloth sets, for Horde characters to give it a more "ancient" feel. When I see the armorsets (Tier 1 and so on)on my Troll mage,I sometimes feel more like a space cadet then as a mage...

The lore has been going downhill since WC3.
Orcs - good
Tauren - good
Trolls - good
Forsaken - bad
Belfs - bad
Humans - good
Dwarves - good
Nelfs - good
Gnomes - good
Draenei - extra good
There isn't one side that is purely evil so now both are good. How stupid is that.

I agree with 1. Undead Paladin hands down. Another fear break, corpse eating... all of that. Seal of Blood still makes sense to being Undead. If they can be priests, then they should be paladins. Just give the Alliance another shaman (night elf is as good a race as any for this).
I'd call that class "the warlock killer."

Kaylek and Zuuler said what I was going to. I've never agreed with the argument that they can't be paladins because they're undead and therefore can't use the Holy Light. As was said above, what about priests?
And, Wook, no race is inherently evil or good. How would that ever make sense? You're born a gnome, so you're automatically a good person? Or you're born a Blood Elf and you're automatically a bad person? There's good and bad to all races, because that's how it would be in a REAL world.

"Humans - good"
humans are the worst of them all!
Zuuler Feb 20th 2007 8:43AM
What about classes that were considered but never made, like the death knight. Could you imagine a warlock/paladin combo? They would have probably ended up way too over-powered though.

this is now hilarious

I so want to be a stitched horror rogue.

@1&2 You = WIN
I would have loved to make a Gnome Priest. There is actually a Gnome Cleric hanging around in Burning Steppes, and he looks cool as hell. Any kind of healer would've been nice, so we could make a Smurf guild and down Onyxia with an all-gnome raid... But druids or paladins seem even less lore-fitting.
Undead Paladins is something that I will never forgive Blizzard for. Would've been so cool, and less twisted than BElf paladins... maybe in a future patch?
On a different note, it wasn't until two months after I started playing that I thought that Dwarves could be druids, and I was actually looking forward to that.

Undead Necromancer - I'd be able to raise dead mobs to fight for me.

I've always been in the same boat as you. I'd love to roll a druid, but I've been horde, and my only option is Tauren. Don't get me wrong, I like the taurens, my main being a Tauren Hunter (now 66), but that's the problem, I don't really want another Tauren.
Now, on the other side, I have a Warlock (Human, 62), and I could roll my druid there. But there is just something about the NE's that I don't really like.
I'd love it if I could play a BE Druid... or hell, even a Troll or Draenei druid, but I can't, and thus I'll probably never play a druid because of it.

A healing class for the gnomes, any healing class but preferably priest. Could you imagine a little gnome shadow priest running around melting faces and laughing maniacally? Why can't gnomes have healing classes? I never understood that.
Sånguinius Feb 20th 2007 9:02PM
I agree with Wook in their post a all evil race. Of anything Blood Elves or the Orcs/Trolls should be like all out evil. No alliance with any other race no help just pure evil.
Hell they should make the Cult of the Damned a playable "race." or even the Fel Orcs in Outland.
Zuuler Feb 20th 2007 9:00AM
Because gnomes are short, and the light doesn't like short people. The light has abandoned the vertically challenged.
FYI, I hate gnomes.
Arras Feb 20th 2007 10:14AM
undead pallies would be sweet!
I'd also like to see human hunters and draeni druids (alliteration ftw!)
Seriously, though about the drano druids - if they can be shaman, a class that is in tune with nature and the elements, why can't they be druids as well? Tauren can be shaman and druids, so why not draeni?
Kaylek Feb 20th 2007 9:02AM
I'll admit, though... undead paladins would probably be the most OP. We already have a natural affinity against every class, and warlock is the only possible, barely, exception. This would tip that and we wouldn't have any classes balanced against us. At least not for the undead paladins. Humans would still be SOL all around (lol rogues).
